A Difference between Chns News and West.News- (Warning-Graphic Content)
by fulltimestudent inif you do not like seeing death as real - do not read on:.
i've noticed this difference before, in western (anglosphere) media outlets, the news is sanitised, with views of death removed.
a consequence is that war is not quite real to many living in the anglosphere.

IF YOU DO NOT LIKE SEEING DEATH AS REAL - DO NOT READ ON:
I've noticed this difference before, in Western (Anglosphere) media outlets, the news is sanitised, with views of death removed. A consequence is that war is not quite real to many living in the Anglosphere. In the Chinese media, graphic showing dead bodies is more common (not everyday, but more frequently compared to anglosphere media - can't compare to other western, non-English news sources).
This series of photographs is from today's web-edition (English) of the People's Daily and illustrates the horrors of war graphically. Who is involved is not explained. Just that its in Ukraine.
My guess, considering that it seems to be current, and the combatants do not look like regular soldiers, is that it's in the Russian speaking, eastern area of Donetsk.

I hope everyone remembers the Abba hit, "Dancing Queen." Here's an extract from the lyrics:
Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a King
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance
You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourineSo how does Jesus tie into that? Well, we need a slight gender change and a dose of whimsy and some information from the Biblical Archeological Society.
A current entry on their website, has some research by Paul Dilley (Assistant professor at the University of Iowa, in the departments of religious studies and classics.). And it all ties into a study unit I'm taking this semester entitled, Early Christian Literature and Thought.
Dilley connects the early Christian document, The Acts of John, to some Christian cultic practises in Coptic Christianity.
In one section of The Acts of John, the apostle John recalls how, on the night before his arrest and crucifixion, Jesus commanded the apostles to form a circle around him, and to dance as he sang a hymn to which they responded in a series of “Amens.”
Was this later story (written and read by 2nd/3rd generation Christians) a 'foundation story' for a developing liturgical practise? Dilley suggests there is evidence that some Christians developed a practise of liturgical dancing.
For example, the quasi-Christian Manicheans allude to such a practise in one of their Psalms.
And, a team of Polish archeologists have found in the Monastery of Anthony the Great at Old Dongola, capital of the central Nubian kingdom Makuria, this image
which suggests that dance played an important role there as well. Some of the dancing figures are masked, and others play musical instruments.

The Chinese Military
by fulltimestudent inevery year since i started my china studies program, i've noted western pollies asking for the chinese government to be more transparent in regard to the chinese military.. i'm not quite sure what 'being transparent' means, does it mean giving the west access to all military secrets?
during my recent visit to china i can't recall seeing one soldier.. but, due to the cica - asian security conference, held in shanghai while i was in china, there were lots of extra police on the streets, maybe because the russian president putin attended.
but the most exciting thing to happen was (apparently) the finalisation of negotiations on the supply of russian energy to china.

Dis-member:
The animated Kama Sutra was the possible inspiration for this I suspect.
Anything is possible in a converging world, Dis-member.
My perspective is: Does it distort what we can establish about the life and personality of the subject?
As, I commented in my first post:
Somehow, I don't think Mao would have approved:
Which question was meant to examine the difference between the use of information for propaganda purposes and what we may discern to be "truth."
In the late 40s and early 50s PRC propaganda may have distorted the lives of Emperors, whatever Mao may have known from a historian's viewpoint.
Mao's life has been distorted by Cold war propaganda in the west. What a struggle it is to achieve a perspective that is balanced.
This web-site demonstrates the sdame problem.
