Nope, I tore it up and requested an extension - I am up to my 6th re-write. Why, well, I judge it as too complex or too simplistic. Maybe my current re-write may be 'just right.' smiiiiiile!

We don't know a lot about these people, as the script they used has not been deciphered. But they were an inventive people, as would be further demonstrated if the claim can be further demonstrated to be true, that these plates were the first (that we know of) attempts to reproduce information by block printing
Here's an image of some of the copper plates:

again problem for writing committee of jws?
after ussr disintegration, jws said: now we have only one world power (south king) on the world scene, and north king will appear in its own time, may be as one of the former ussr state or as some other communist country.. but now equations are now totally upside downwith a communist country replacing the south kings as the world power!?.
metatron: The authoritarian rule of China tends to look seductive.
Umm! Why is assumed that the Chinese government is more "authoritarian," than western goverments? Back in 2003 I took part in a mass demonstration in Sydney. The centre of the city was clogged with something like 200,000 people protesting against Australian involvement in the American inspired Iraq War. The Australian government took no notice of the protest. John Howard (the PM of the time) said he'd promised Bush that Australia would fight in the war, and fight we had to.
Newspaper polling indicated the same story - most Australian's were opposed to the war.
Turns out this opposition to the war was right. The Iraq war was a huge mistake. Iraq is wrecked. The grandiose dream of Iraq becoming a beacon of democracy in west Asia turns out to have been a cocaine fuelled nightmare of the American elite.
I do not recall that John Howard ever apologised, in fact his protege, the present PM, almost wet himself in his anxiety to start bombing the area again.
In the UK, Tony Blair performed in a similar authoritarian way. Then finding his hands covered in the blood of the innocents, he becomes a Catholic to salve his conscience.
Another aspect of authoritianism in my country is the fact that polling consistently showing that about 70% of Australians support allowing gay people to marry. The current PM (Abbott) is ideologically opposed to that (he's a committed Christian of the Catholic brand). And he says he will not allow it. So much for the will of the people!!!
So in what way, is the west NOT authoritarian?
Democracy does not happen overnight. The commencement of what the west calls democracy, supposedly had its start with the Magna Carta (which had nothing to offer the lower classes, anyway). But allow the MG to be the start of the road to democracy in the English speaking cosmos, and it took over 500 years to "grow" democracy. I do not believe that what the west calls democracy can work. The problem is that the right to vote is a privilege that should carry a concurrent responsibility - the responsibility to be informed when electing government. How many people are informed? How many people 'could be' informed?
But back to China. Yes! I would agree that sometimes, some levels of government may act in a high-handed way. But, at a recent talk given by Professor Kerry Brown of Sydney University (who can be quite critical of China) he claimed that there were some 200,000 to 500,000 protest demonstrations every year in China. Many of which achieve the goal of the protest.
I cannot forecast the future of China, but I do not think that the government refuses to listen to what people are saying. In fact, I suggest that the whole point of a mass political party, with a membership of 80,000,000 (that's ab out one party member for every 20 people), is that grassroots opinion can be known and discussed. That's not the way we are used to seeing things done, but maybe we should see where it takes China, before we yell and scream that its wrong.
Again, as a contrast. In my country, the combined membership of the two major political parties is probably not much more than 50,000 for both parties. (That's about one party member for every 450 people in Australia). Party members have few rights. Each Aussie party (one called Liberal and one called Labour) selects its candidates (with rubber stamping by local branch members) and give you a list of candidates to vote for. Is that really "democracy?" Isn't that just a teeny bit (smile) "authoritarian?"
When it comes to voting on issues in parliament, is that the party insists that members must vote the party line - the will of the people in the politicians electorate, doesn't matter.

Sorry, I have not time to share in this discussion, but if anyone would like to look at some scholarly discussion on that Ch., you may find the parts of this book helpful. The link is to a google copy, so not all (sometimes not many) pages may be available. But if it interests you, your local library may have a copy or may be able to tell you where you can find a full copy.

I'm not sure that any depictions have any significance, outside of the fat thact the artist and their patron, both agreed on a certain image. No tradition exists (to my knowledge) of Jesus looking like this or like that. The buyer and the artist (and in this case, the maker) all had to agree on an image that likely conformed to their own ideas of fashion and appearance.

Perry: Cyprian lived only 100 years after John wrote the book of I John.
Wow! That's a big assertion. The letter we call 1 John, does not name an author. It's only a tradition that John the Apostle, was the author.
Personally, it does not matter to me, who wrote that letter, but to assert that John was the author, when there is no other evidence for his authorship, is merely speculation.
--------------------
Perry: Cyprian would have had access to the original manuscript to check.
Again, Perry, how you know that?
Strangely, we know more about Cyprian than we know about the author of the Johannine letters.
So let's examine the likelihood of Cyprian being able to access the original letter. First, it's complicated by the letter's literary style. It's not written as a letter, some scholarship labels it a 'circular epistle,' others think of it a sermon, and some scholarship think that its more like a composite of various sermons, strung together to support one side of a rupture within that particular Christian community. So just what was the original document?
Second, we do know where Cyprian was located - his home was Carthage. And, yes, he was most likely born around 200 CE, but became a Christian at age 35, which moves us to 235 CE, and became the bishop about 249 CE. The very next year, Roman Emperor Decius, alarmed at Roman problems ordered a loyalty (patriotic) test, which involved -
"... perform(ing) a sacrifice to the Roman gods and the well-being of the Emperor. The edict ordered that the sacrifices be performed in the presence of a Roman magistrate, and a signed and witnessed certificate be issued to that effect. It was the first time that Christians had faced legislation forcing them to choose between their religious beliefs and death, although there is no evidence that Decius' edict was specifically intended to target Christians." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decian_persecution )
Cyprian, by the way, thought it expedient to disappear and ran away, rather that refuse the Decian test of loyalty to the state. That led to certain problems, but is beside the point here.
What I'm getting at, is that the bulk of his writings are likely dated after 250 CE, which means, if we accept a date for the Johannine documents of circa 100 CE (which not all scholarship would accept), that Cyprian was writing 150 years later.
What are the chances that he read the original document? Where would that original document be in the period after 250 CE? Again, we dont know. We really can't even be sure of the area where the original Apostle John preached and where the Johannine community of Christians was located. A few argue for Asia minor, which if true is a long way from Carthage (though the early Christians seem to have done a lot of travelling), and we have no reason to state that Cyprian accessed the original document.
So it's merely an unverifiable assertion that Cyprian did access the original document.
A popular TV series in China, If You Are the One, also attracts audiences in some other countries. Its a fascinating peek into a modern urbanised China, where people have the same sort of jobs that most of us may have also.
In China, its audience reach is around 50,000,000 and some western males may find it rather confronting. The format is simple, a lone male is confronted by 24, partly critical, partly hopeful women, in the hope of finding a suitable date.
Its culturally backgrounded by the sex imbalance in China, with some 10,000,00 plus surplus males. And further complicated by a China with a culture of a traditional Confucianist role for men and women, a tradition that is being eroded by changing attitudes to male/female relationships, usually reflected in what some call a 'picky' (fussy) attitude on the part of women.
In Australia it is presented by the SBS network a government owned TV/Radio network aimed at the large migrant market in Aust.
If you want to get some insights into what it may be like to be a modern Chinese, you may find those insights in this program:

suavojr: All they need now is a privately own TV network, they should call it 'The Truth Network' ,lol
Well, if they think it may work they'll likely try it.
When I "got' the 'truth,' Radio WBBR was still operating in Brooklyn, and it was the sole remainder of what was once a wide network of Radio stations, broadcasting Rutherford's sermons. Some of them were WTS owned and some broadcast under licence. Rutherford had once quoted some Biblical text that spoke of the angel of the air - (Revelation? Havn't got time to check) - as being fulfilled by the radio stations.
Here's an over-the-top description of the beginning of that network:
Source: http://pastorrussell.blogspot.com.au/2009/09/radio-pioneer-lifts-up-its-voice.html
but in part it says:
"Radio Tells the World Millennium Is Coming,” declared the Philadelphia Record of April 17, 1922, continuing: “Judge Rutherford’s Lecture Broadcasted from Metropolitan Opera House. Talks into Transmitter. Message is Carried Over Miles of Bell Telephone Wires to Howlett’s Station.” So began a newspaper report of J. F. Rutherford’s first radio address, given on Sunday, April 16, 1922, at the Metropolitan Opera House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The subject? “Millions Now Living Will Never Die.” His visible audience was a mere handful compared with an estimated 50,000 residents of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who heard the speech on primitive radios in their homes. ...
... Jehovah’s servants of the early 1920’s were relatively few in number. By 1924 in the United States there were, on the average, only 1,064 Bible Students preaching from house to house weekly. So, during that period God’s people recognized the far-reaching effects of radio and considered it a fine means of reaching the masses with the Kingdom message.
... In 1922 J. F. Rutherford and a few advisers first took claim to some twenty-four acres on Staten Island in New York city’s Borough of Richmond. Taking us back to that interesting time, Lloyd Burtch once stated: “One Saturday afternoon the president of the Society, Brother Rutherford, took some of us with him to Staten Island. Upon arriving at the property that had been purchased, he pointed to a spot in the heart of the woods on the land and said: ‘All right, boys. Here is where we start digging. We are going to build a radio station on our land.’ And did we dig! Every weekend during that summer we were at it.” Throughout the winter and on into the summer of 1923 construction went on apace, many young men from the Society’s headquarters in Brooklyn assisting on weekends.
And this second image is the Staten Island WBBR offices and studios (I believe)
I do not have a list of all the WTS owned stations, but in Australia there were four. Here's an extract from an Academic essay on the banning of the JWs in Australia during WW2.
By late 1940, the Witnesses owned and controlled four radio stations around Australia: 5KA Adelaide and 5AU Port Augusta (SA), 2HD Newcastle (NSW), and 4AT Atherton (QLD). These radio stations broadcast a mixture of religious material, community information and ‘homely entertainment’.xvii The main station to fall under suspicion was 5KA Adelaide after a sustained campaign against the radio stations was begun by the populist newspapers Smith’s Weekly and Truth.

The WTS was accused of national disloyalty and the WTS's radio stations were shutdown in January 1940 and the WTS itself was finally proscribed a little later.
They were all before my time, but in discussions about them in the early 50's Sydney JWs seemed quite unanimous that the Aussie radio stations were strongly afflicted by the commercialism that afflicted the Australian branch. At least, as far as 2HD located in Newcastle NSW, is concerned, the costs of operating the station were paid for by selling advertising time, this meant salesmen (all dedicated witnesses) who had to maintain client contacts, with the usual things that sales people do to maintain client relations. Other witnesses have described to me, entertainment parties on the station's premises, in which witnesses and customers were all paralytically drunk.
I cant mention that without mentioning that as soon as WW2 was over, Nathan Knorr came to Sydney and scolded the branch at a Public meeting in Sydney Town Hall.
Whether the 2HD problems were part of the world-wide broadcasting troubles of the WTS, I am unable to say.
So maybe the coming web-casts is another back to the future scenario.

The Ukraine was once an important part of the former Soviet Union's armaments production program, and still has facilities that are important in Russia's defence program, which likely explains the international fuss in that benighted country. In the east, where Russian is the native language of a great many people, their present jobs may be in those factories that are linked to Russian defence production. It is unlikely that those factories can re-tool and re-vamp to sell to Western Europe or the USA. Hence, jobs will disappear without much hope for new jobs, in a Ukraine unsympathetic to the East.
