  (PIONEERING) and the way to get ahead: PIOUS SNEERING

  the year was 1969.. i had just spent my 2 years fulfilling my "neutrality" obligations to jehovah's organization during the viet nam war by going in to federal prison.. i thought i could use my parole to get my life together.. getting a job, saving some money, buying a car and getting a place to live didn't seem like radical or worldly ideas to me.. i guess i was pretty surprised when i walked in to the kingdom hall where i had not set foot since 1967.. .

  instead of a homecoming i was greeted by----the congregation overseer (the pre-elder days).. in his hot little hand was the pioneer application form.

  he handed it to me saying, "i know you'll want to continue your serving jehovah full time!".

  That's awful, Terry.

  I knew some American brothers during that time. I think they told me they had the option to become a full time minister (Pioneer) and they wouldn't be drafted. This choice increased the Regular Pioneer stat's during the Viet Nam era.

  I know of some that escaped into Canada, and continued to live here to avoid the draft. Some pioneered. I couldn't understand that we would ok them because we accepted their Pioneer application while they were illegal aliens in Canada. On the other hand we had illegal aliens from third world countries that were trying to break free from poverty. Those ones we black listed, because we thought that was materialistic. They would never qualify for cong duties.

  bYes, this does bring memories.

  I'm from Canada, but do remember those crazy 70's. I somehow enjoyed the pioneering, though.

  I know that the American pioneers increased to avoid the draft to Viet Nam.

  But, really, would you want to be in that Viet Nam war? In the weird crazy Franz's frenzie, didn't it shelter you?

  The 70 year old virgin! So tragic!

  did anyone hear about this story?

  this lady is 70, and has not done it yet.

  now she thinks it's time, but she doesn't believe in premarital marriage.

  I knew of a 60 year old virgin. He lived and cared for his mother until she died.

  Then he married a women, who wasn't a virgin (she had been married in the past, but devorced).

  Thank goodnes one of them were trained.

  Lots of JWs out at tables this morning!

  so, i actually stopped at two different tables that i saw.

  the first was 2 elderly men - they were so sweet and open to discuss.

  i brought up the topic of the divine name and why the wt inserted it into the nt with no evidence from greek manuscripts.

  Table witnessing? With chairs to sit on while people walk by? That's interesting.

  Well, the guys gave you a somewhat kinder response. The women however, were mean. I'm not sure about what she meant when she said the comment, "it doesn't count", or what context it was made.

  You have to feel sorry for some that go out in FS and are missing some details about the faith. Yet, they still persevere dispite the questions.

  Argentina: I kind of read the beginning of your story, and then skipped all the posts to the end.

  I think you are a brave girl to have a plan to reinstate with your faith, because you believe in your family enough to break down this wall that appears before you.

  I wish you all the best wishes with your plans, and it is time to move on with your future. You will soon be raisng a young child and that will bring you so much happines, fulfillment in your life.

  One cute canadian sister

  i like her videos about self-injury and other mental and physical problems, that could happened to young people.... she say that she is an active jw and regularly visit the meetings and go to service.. http://www.youtube.com/user/idranktheseawater.

  but... what can you say about her wearing and hair style?.

  it's cool, but it's "non-spiritual" style, not for "true" jw, isn't it ?!

  I'm from Canada.

  She is quite normal looking for a Canadian sister. We have some extemes, and some that are still lost in the 1950's.

  conventions start may 18 according to jw.org.. hopefully, there will drops in baptisms as reported from 2011. unfortunately, there will be the poor kids..

  Kingdom Hall got Disassociated

  well, i thought i've seen everything.. a congregation in our city just sold thier kingdom hall.

  they must have been desparate, because they sold it to an evangelical group for an amount less than what they boasted about.

  but, these are hard financial times.. all i could remember is the 25 yrs ago, dedication talk.

  It kind of blows the dedication concept out the door doesn't it?

  What is the difference between dedicating a bldg to Jah, or oneself dedicating himself to Jah. A person can't go back on their dedication, but a bldg can be sold and end it's dedicated usefulness?

  Why do we dedicate Bldg's?
