  I just want a divorce!

  hi there, this is my first post, but i've been buzzing around this site for years.. i got married at 18, hubby was 20, i was a regular pioneer and we were talking about serving in bethel.

  fast forward - i left in 2004 after a 5 year battle with my conscience, family and friends who kept insisting that i was just "weak and needed to have another bible study".

  however hubby and i stayed together although it was kinda on the understanding that we would just not talk about it.

  I understand why you have this question. because exiting a marriage is not covered in the WT CD Rom, or, at Pioneer school. It's crazy that your mate can physically beat you, abuse you, but, you are are bound to him despite living far away from one another. When Jesus gave the command allowing divorce he was talking to Israelite men who had the advantage of divorcing their spouses for any reason. That is the context that gets missunderstood by the WT society. Thank goodness, the law is open minded on this. I agree with what the other posters are saying, you need a Lawyer. You don't need your mates approval, he walked out.

  CO Disfellowshipped in UK

  so, i have it on very good authority that a co has recently been disfellowshipped in the uk.

  he has just finished serving the north west london area.

  i don't know any details but perhaps there is someone who does know what happened.

The congregation commitee told him to Get Back, to where you once belong. But he just replied, Naw, Naw, Naw, Na, Na, Na. He started misquoting the book of Hey Jude, and said we wanted a Revolution. But, he was was always trying to build up material for his new book, because he was a Paperback Writer.

  heard from a friend living on the east coast (u.s.) that bethel is starting to crack down on obesity.

  they are sending bethlites for mandatory physicals and if your bmi is high they make you go on a diet.

  according to my friend, this person told him that he knows of a bethel brother who was flat out told he was "fat!

  Well, those GB some of those GB members are a little portly aren't they?

  My Dr only encourages exercise in moderation, and big on calorie control. For instance, if it takes you 2 hrs to work off a piece of cake, you're better off to not have the piece of cake.

  Congregation Loans

  what i am trying to figure out is wether or not the society actually collects interest on the money they loan for kingdom hall construction.. .

  for instance if we have 70k in the bank and need 90k for project and we get a loan from the borg - do they charge interest on the loan or is just the base 20k paid back over time?.

  i never actually paid attention to this process, does anyone know.

  Well, in a sense you maybe right. At the end of the loan, the congregation owns the KH and sells it it for Market Value. They use that equity to purchase land to upgrade to another area to rebuild another KH. The money that comes from that sale belongs to the congregation, not the society. Granted it must be used up for rebulding and use of a KH. The only way the Soc would receive those proceeds is if a resolution is passed and the funds are donated to the Soc. So, you may be right, but, possibly the congregation may keep those funds.

  I have seen many KH's sold and the monetary value of the purchases were maintained in a trust fund of the congregation that it came from. It sometimes took years before that money was used to purchase another property for a KH. I am aware of some cong 's that have carried a ballance into the hundreds of thousands and the money is just sitting in their accounts.

  Will The Governing Body Tighten Control Over Rank & File Members Even If It Opens Them Up To More Lawsuits?

  when we look at the conti case we see the amount of control that the governing body has over the rank and file makes them open to lawsuits.

  i see lots of areas where this can work against the financial and legal interest of the corporation, for example:.

  1. a banning of blood transfussions enforced by disfellowshipping.
