I'm Really Disappointed
by mrquik inhaving been out 5 yrs.
& attending numerous christmas parties & family get togethers, i can't tell you how disappointed i am.
i was led to believe wild debauchery, drinking & fighting was the norm.

Jws and poverty
by Julia Orwell inwhen i say poverty, i mean not knowing where your next meal is coming from or being unable to pay your bills or afford necessary medicines poverty.
i'm talking the kinds of poor people who have to get food from charities kind of poor, or long term unemployment living in a trailer/caravan kind of poor.
holes in clothes poor.

I considered our family quite poor living and surviving in the sixties, But, most of the cong members had jobs. They weren't glamouros jobs, but they paid housing and food. Not too many had cable TV, that was a luxury. As long as you got to watch the, Rifle Man, 77 Sunset Strip, Ed Sullivan and the Hockey game we were happy. I don't remember homeless existing in Montreal. Housing was always affordable for everyone.
throughout the next 50 yrs, inflation has robbed many of jobs, wealth, food, shelter, and a poor standard of living for some. This affects JW's and the rest of the population. Back then there was not such thing as unemployable. People were proud to say that they had a job.
Geez...I'm sounding more like my Dad everyday.

Marriage only possible as an M.S. as a JW???
by ADJUSTMENTS init seemed to me for a male jw to begin the steps of dating and eventually getting married you at least had to be an m.s.
to get anywhere with a sister at least a decent sister.
i'm wondering if others felt this way?

I remember some pioneer sister who married an Elder telling me that my marriage wouldn't last because I was engaged too early. She got a divorce 10 yrs into her marriage, and I just celebrated my 40th anniversary.

John Graeff CO recently left "the work"
by James Jackson injohn graeff a co in north fla (1999-2002), northwest ga (2003-2006), northeast al (2007-2010), then houston tx just left the "traveling work", anyone know why?.
he was a great teacher and fiercely loyal to the organisation.
he taught my pioneer school and elders school.

I wouldn't want a woman who wanted a man with a position. I know that some do promote this, and I've heard some Elder wives prescribe this.
There are many sisters that marry out of the faith because they are tired of dealing with the poor selection. That being said. If you almost looked like Brad Pit, and had a sense of humour, that would Ace a MS position. Good looks, and good personality works better than a picture of you in a swimsuit being dunked in a swimming pool, or a/pioneering in March.
I didn't have a MS position back in the day when I was up for grabs.

Can the elders make up stuff to make sure that a brother pretty much never gets to be elder?
by toto555 init's been my observation that if the elders really want a brother to become elder, then they will come up with all the reasons in the world to appoint him.
the reverse is also true.
if the elders really don't want a brother to become elder, then they will make up all sorts of reasons not to appoint him despite perhaps the brothers many years in the truth, great talks, spirituality etc.

Unfortunately, sometimes if your name comes up for an appointment, and if the Body is not unanimous, the BOE will put your appt on the back burner. It could stay there for a long time, unless you start to assert yourself and ask "why ". They need to reply back to you with a reason.
When you receive the reason, find out what time period it will take for any bad history to pass. Don't let this experience dissapoint you, just go on and enjoy your life, don't bend over backwards for any requests. Stop trying to prove yourselves, if it's not gonna matter.
If, it's soon to happen, then it's time to suck up. It won't belong before you'll be sucking up big time.

I have JUST become a GREAT GRANNY Of Twins.

they are doing well born by ceaserian at 2.40p.m today!!!!!

Field Service arrangements have been cancelled for Dec 25-27 in our hall. However, you can make your separate arrangements if you are nuts. We don't discriminate against the mental illness ones. Sorry BOTR, I would invite you over for the day to spend time with my family. You live too far away.
I will have some pancakes with blueberries, an Canadian Maple syrup. Canadian bacon.
Lunch....sorry won't have any room.
Dinner...turkey, and all of the trimmings.
