  Where the real abuse lies.

  let me start with a disclaimer: i am in no way minimizing the horrific crimes done to children by pedophiles.

  i'm not downplaying the number of lives lost due to the blood issue, or hearts broken because of shunning.

  i do not want to discount the feelings of those who have come to the end of their lives with expectations of paradise postponed.. but to me the biggest atrocity committed by this awful cult is raising children from a small age to believe that soon god will kill billions of people.

  Raising kids in this church is one of the worst things you can do to a kid. I, like you was a born in. It is the reason why I have a difficult time with people who choose to fade when they have small children in.

  My mother was not a uder dub. I was not hit over the head with the end of the world bs but I still never thought the world would survive past my 20th birthday because I was taken to meetings. When I wanted to play sports I was told that I was selfish for wanting to put football over god. I remember telling a guidance counsler that there was simply no reason for me to go to college. It wasnt until I had my own kids that I started to get serious as a dub and thats when i realized it was all bullshit.

  Get your kids out now! Losing a "friend" or "family member", hell, losing many friends or family members is a small price to pay for giving your child a life free from the dictatorial life of being raised as a child of a jehovahs witness.

  Hope and Reality

  for a long time, i've been moving into a place of utmost hope and faith.

  universal reconciliation.

  as a converted jw - i began my conversion with the joy that there is a hope for something we all would love - a world where each of us sees our fellow kind as a true brother.. i don't think that's an unhealthy way to live.. but - i'm living with the effects of corruptive thinking from a 'sect' - a divisive sect and judgemental sect that has hurt my sense of self.. it's terribly painful to have completely believed one thing, and then completely believe something else.... well that's how it feels to me.. i've read of some here who were jws for years, then became devout born agains for years and now are confirmed atheists.. wow.. how do you cope with the frivolous nature of your 'beliefs' - beliefs that were 'truths' for you in their own time.. i'm struggling - anyone else?.

  I agree with Divergent. You woke up! That is incredible considering how "well oiled" the jw machine is. I went through the entire process of questioning jw beliefs, then christianity & the bible and then god. When you start to realize that no one has access to a "supernatural realm" it starts to erode the "authority" that jw's and religion in general have.

  There is nothing wrong with changing long held views when the evidence forces to you to change them. Pretty soon you will just have passing moments of clarity (read: facepalm) about how stupid/arrogant/petty and judgemental you once were. Stay humble and keep learning!

  lisarose.. I hear you when you say it would not work for you and thats ok. I dont know if it would have worked on me... never happened in my hall. When I was young and not getting answers that made sense to me (before the doubts were then squashed) and someone just happened to defiantly rant about it in front of the entire hall, that **may** have lit a fire under my ass. Who knows...

  talesin.. lets say this wasnt activism. Maybe this is his therapy. I know I have suffered the effects of being brought up in a group that fostered a spirit of "just let jehovah handle it" I can easily see this as a non-violent non-conformist way of proving to oneself that they no longer have control over me and I in fact have the power to handle things myself.

  Feel free to pick him apart or praise him but he participated in civil disobedience and did not resort to violence and then left. ALLAH be praised!

  i moved to roseburg, oregon.

  the jehovah's witnesses are allowed to set up a display and man it right outside of the local library, and they are there every day and hour the library is open.

  i am [redacted], the director of the douglas county library system and wanted to respond to your website email of december 11, 2015. i have consulted with the county attorneys office about your concern about jehovahs witnesses use of the front porch of the library building in roseburg, and my understanding of the law is as follows.. .

  Your county is right on the money.

  I would seriously doubt they are using hate speech. From what I understand they dont really talk unless spoken to. Why not bring up gay marriage and have a discussion with them about it right in the public square? Let them sound ridiculous in front of people passing by.

  lisarose... somethings work better than others. No doubt about that. By making a blanket statement that this "does not work" ignores that we really cant say for certain how each individual is affected by this man's actions. It is possible that one person in that hall already had doubts about 1914. Hearing someone else (even if not in the "proper" way) express doubts about that may help such a person.

  morpheus.. at the end of the day no one set back the reasoning on your family, they are choosing to keep taking the blue pill just like we all were at one point. I hope for yours and their sake they do decide to take the red pill one day. Neo could have chosen to take the blue pill. We all wake up when we are ready to wake up.

  I am not talking about Hazard or billy the bethelite. I dont recall ever making any comments about either of those two.

  I am talking simply about this man(sure he was intox) who got up, toasted the generation of 1914 and then after promoting his website, left. How would you like me to prove the negative that this WILL not work. That is more certain then you and I can be. I am saying the possibility is open that it could work. Unless I am reading your comments wrong, you are saying that it CANNOT work. That is further then I would be willing to go.

  People will wake up when they are ready to be woken up. People who are thin skinned and looking to be offended and yell apostate will always be thin skinned looknig to be offended and ready to yell "apostate" Fuck those people, they will (or will not) wake up when they are ready. If this dude stood up and said "toast the generation of 1914" then jerked off in the wine glass and then smashed the glass over a 90 year old grandmother's head, I would agree that would not be the way to go. He didnt. He promoted himself, left the bldg in less then 2 minutes and went about his merry way.

  I am not saying its the only way. I am saying it is one way. To say that the confrontational aggressive is NEVER going to work is to disregard the nature of the human primate.

  Ok, no it doesn't. Nicolaou is the be all end all expert on what kinds of antics / tactics it takes to get every single person out of dub land. I bow to your all encompassing knowledge of all things ex-jdub.
