  I was told that heavy metal music CD-s are demonic. And that if I own such music I leave a protal opened for the demons to come into my house. That I was told before my baptism, by a ministerial servant. Needles to say I still have my HM CD-s. JWs are obsessed with demonized objects! I had to destroy a cross-shaped black burr, for sharpening scalpels and razors, because that MS saw it when he visited me one day. Porn media is also demonized. But the most demonized is horror-media: movies, dolls, T-shirts, etc.

  I wonder what would happened if a guy with long hair and a goatee and a Cradle of Filth T-shirt would step into the KH and attend the meeting. The first time when I attended a meeting at the KH, I was wearing a orange T-shirt, shorts and loafers. Later I was told that the brothers and sisters were outraged at that time, but no one protested because I was not a JW.

  Proverbs 8:1-3 -- is Wisdom personified as a female?

  i was reading proverbs chapter 8 last night, and i just happened to be using the nasb, and i noticed that wisdom is personified as a female in verses 1-3, calling out to people to listen.

  i noticed that in the nwt, wisdom is not personified in these verses, but rather referred to as "it".

  eerie coincidence was that this morning on the subway train, a woman was reading proverbs 8 in her kjv as i was standing over her.

  There is a male God, a female Goddess, many children-gods and some animal-gods. And yea, tree-gods and plant goddesses. And they all have sex together. And they all wear magic panties.

  I'm amazed that some people escaped from Hell itself and find nothing better to do than squabble over some passages from a book that was written by a few smart Jews that lived millenia ago.

  i think you'll find this interesting and also disconcerting as well.. to all bodies of elders.

  Any system of government tends to be more coercitive and oligarchic over time. It's the iron law of oligarchy, developed by Robert Michels and it is also valid when applied to politic parties or to any other hyerarchical structure...like religious orgs. That is why, even if it will go mainstream in doctrine, the Watchtower Society will become even more paranoid and constrictive in it's structure. The ivory tower wich is the GB will become even more inaccesible to the newcomers, Bethel life will be even more eerie, elders will have more power in their congos. Going mainstream in doctrine does not necessarely mean a lightening of the yoke!

  hi guys,.

  thank you for the warm welcome to the forum boards after years of just looking and reading.. i have been impressed by the many comments that have followed the introduction of dontplaceliterature and the balanced, humourus and individual views of the brothers and sisters (we are all human beings so as far as i am concerned no matter what religious persuasion we are all one family!

  ) that have replied with both candid and honest and often heartfelt comments.. i have started a topic and will give the reason for asking first, so anyone can skip the "getting to know me" bit.. i am currently wondering as a baptised member of the org, who hasnt attended either meetings or memorial in the last 4 years.

  a family member was a maoist and had these perfect english pamphlets prepared by a foreign government.

  We have in Romanian an expression which is used when speaking of the communist writing style: "wooden language". The wooden-language had a lot of words and expressions that never changed and were often used in all communist countries, in all years between 1917 and 1989: war between classes, socialist revolution, communist era, self-criticism, marxist dialectic, golden age, wonderful accomplishments, glorious era, most advanced in the world, path to communism, comrade, burgeois, imperialist scum, etc.

  The JW language is heavily loaded, so it it a form of wooden language too: theocratic warfare, Jehovah, sanctify, worthy, field service, meeting, Armaggeddon, faithful and discreet slave, the annointed, the other sheep, elder, ministerial servant, congress, overseer, new world, eternal life, etc. All religions have their own wooden language.

  Anybody into aromatherapy and smell good stuff?

  i always like my apartment smelling nice with a great fragrance and i like different ones throughout the year.

  however there are some smells i can't get enough of, like the smell of sandalwood.

  i just stocked up on some since the price is skyrocketing right now.

  Definetly patchoulli. I can afford a bottle of Pacco Rabanne-BlackXs from time to time...It really had a nice effect on JW sisters from 20 to 40.
