  A Question For the Guys...

  this thread was inspired by the "a question for the ladies..." thread and anybody is welcome to post.. if you are now free and clear of the wts, how have your dress and grooming changed?

  i'll start the ball rolling by saying that i made some changes that i really like.

  i'm down to two suits and they are only for job interviews and perhaps some solemn occasion.

  LouBelle, OldGenerationDude, wonderful comments.

  OGD, I never thought about the bible in the way you presented it. I always thought of it as the Christian rule book... map. My thinker has much to chew on today.

  Not exactly breaking news, but...how can the posters on JWTalk.net be so obtuse?

  on jwtalk.net, the jw apologists are all over the conti case, about how "dumb" the jury was, how it is certain to be overturned on appeal, how jehovah will vindicate his name, blah blah blah.. meanwhile, on another thread about the sandusky verdict, you will find these comments:.

  so sad that it took all this time and ruined those young boys lives.

  but what about the school officials, didn't they have a responsibility to report this to the authorities??.

  notjustyet: I mean is it better for JWs that this made the courts and media and then get overturned in the future after the damage is already done OR just keep it out of the media to begin with?

  Jehovah is weeding out the spiritually sick and week, serperating the wheat from the chaff. Situations like this will cause an unwanted element to fall away from Jehovah's organization.

Then again, as back there tests revealed those who were deserving of sharing in the initial striking victory by weeding out those who were fearful or lacking in vigilance, so in modern times Jehovah has permitted tests that have caused the fearful and negligent to fall by the way.

  Brace yourself for the excitement that is............. IRON DORK!

  Winter: khaki pants & color polo shirt

  Summer: khaki shorts & color polo shirt

  Year-round: short hair/clean shaven

  I still have all my old suits because most of them are relatively new. I actually had to wear one a couple of weeks ago for a neighbor's funeral. For the most part I have not changed in my personal habits/grooming/attire.

  Quendi: I'd welcome any suggestions about how to do this and want to thank you in advance for them.

  As with any effort to get anyone else out of the WT trap, it is entirely up to the individual how he or she will respond to information. Perhaps in the case of your friend, information along with the fact that he is miserable may some day push him. Be patient with him and never give up.

  Cacky: I no longer matters to me if they do become kinder and gentler. They've already done too much damage to ever make up for it, as far as I'm concerned.

  You know, for a few moments after I read the "kinder, gentler" line written by Socrateswannebe, my cult programming kicked in and I considered the possibility of returning if it wasn't so toxic as when I left. I began remembering all the parts that I liked about going there.

  Etch a sketch!!!

  Then I made myself remember everything I have learned since leaving there. But most important... they did WAY too much damage over the course of my entire life, most without me even knowing it. But now that I am fully aware.... OH, HELL NO!!!

  Stabbing at my old kingdom hall yesterday

  a man stabbed his wife outside her church thursday afternoon at kingdom hall on old spartanburg road, authorities said.. leonard edwards jr., 46, was being held thursday night in the greenville county detention center on charges of attempted murder and possession of a knife during commission of a violent crime, according to master deputy laura campbell of the sheriffs office and jail records.. the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, campbell said.

  she said the woman was stabbed once in the back.. about 30 to 40 church members were present for the bible study, campbell said.. a man asked the woman to come out of the church, and she did, campbell said.. she then ran back into the church followed by a man armed with a knife, campbell said.. the man had knocked her to the ground and stabbed her, she said.. when deputies arrived, congregation members were holding a man in the sanctuary, campbell said.. .

  Quendi, you have shared your experience with us on the forum and some in private email with me. I'm curious, you said you were well versed and ten steps ahead of the elders on a number of topics. Their final statement on the matter was that you had to accept WTS literature as the final authority on the matter. We all know that the governing body and the literature are held in higher regard, greater authority than the bible, but did they at least TRY to respond to the scriptural points you were making?

  Did they at least pretend they were interested in what the bible really teaches or try to present themselves as taking a personal interest in you, your thoughts, your "plague"? Or was it mostly mechanical, cut and dry, swallow it or else?

  In all fairness, when I got reinstated, there was one elder on the committe who was absolutely kind, caring, respectful. I think he really tried to compensate for what he saw in the other two elders. I wish I could name him just as a compliment. But the other two (as well as other elders in the cong.) were everything I came to fear as child and hate as an adult. The one good apple was not enough to offset the true nature of that whore house.

  Freetosee, nothing new to report other than to confirm the woman was at the hall attending pioneer school.

  The man came in the hall and called his wife outside. He must have said or done something to frighten her and she came running back in the hall with him following. He stabbed her in the back with a small knife and a few of the "brothers" tackled him and held him down until the police arrived. I got no report on what the nature of the arguement was about but chances are it was a case of Christian persecution... cuz JW's get that.

  Not trying to make light of domestic abuse, but you KNOW they will spin it as persecution rather than some abusive nut job simply doing what abusive nut jobs do.

  Socrateswannabe: "Let it be known that we honor men and women of all sorts, regardless of their sexual orientation." The speaker said that the bible doesn't comment on genetic issues and so the organization likewise can make no comment on that aspect of the issue...

  LET IT BE KNOWN that this is a load of crap! Even if that statememnt were written on page one of every piece of WTS literature from now until the end of the overlapping generations, it would still be a load of crap. The truth of the situation that actually exists on the ground, in the halls, by elders and drones alike is a complete and utter disdain and disrespect for any GLBT person who is "out" and open about it. In-house shunning, jokes, laughter... don't be fooled by the statement above. It's like the U.S. Congress passing a Bill of Rights and then saying, "There! Problem Solved."

  The reality comes nowhere near the delusion.

  Also, in grand WTS tradition, there is no apology for the trail of blood and dead bodies left in the wake of their old, hard-line approach toward GLBT. That right there speaks to how disingenuous they are on this. It used to be that the bible clearly states that gay people chose to be gay. Quoting Romans 1:26,27 as evidence, "... for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female", "it is clear that these sodomites chose to be what they are!"

  The contradiction is appalling! In order to use that scripture to support an anti-gay position, the reader MUST conclude that homosexuality is a choice and not a biological or genetic disposition.

  Rather than see the scripture for what it is saying, i.e., talking about HETEROSEXUALS violating the sexuality they were designed with (study the customs of Romans at that time to understand why this counsel would be necessary), they have chosen what they want it to say, i.e. a blank statment that gay people chose to be gay.

  NOW, they want to tone down the message?

  They can't! It is a glaring contradiction! For them to say that the bible does not speak on genetic issues means they MUST abandon Romans 1 in their defence of a GOD HATES FAGS policy... the REAL policy that is practiced by Jehovah's Witnesses around the globe!!!
