  i have a job interview tommrow.

  i have looked on career builder and talked to my college career counselor.i some extra last minute pointers i feel a little nervous for my interview..

  I did not read all of the previous posts, so I might repeat some of the tips. I interview people on a daily basis. Here are few pointers:

  • Research the company on the internet. You should know exactly what type of services the company provides and be able to articulate this to the interviewer.
  • Be concise with your answers. Those who ramble are very annoying, and do not go very far in the interview process.
  • Prepare answers that are commonly asked.
  • If you were ever fired, do not divulge that info. It is illegal for your former employers to volunteer that info to a potential employer.
  • BE ON TIME!
  • Have a firm handshake. Limp handshakes are unappealing.
  • Do not say anything negative about your former employers.
  • Try not to discuss salary until at least the second or third interview. (This will depend on what type of position/role it is.)
  • Dress professionally.
  • Email or mail a "Thank You" letter after the interview. Emails are perfectly suitable nowadays.

  i don't even know where to start.

  every jw i still have contact with is poor, their health is bad, they're stressed out, they're unhappy people.

  they put on a good front but you can see the strained smiles, those distant looks into nowhere (or where their life could have gone).

  I don't think it would be fair of me to apply this to all JWs, but I grew up with a lot of negative thinking that came straight from one of my JW parents. I had to overcome a lot of negativity in my life. To this day my super "spiritual" parent is always complaining about health problems (which could be improved with a better diet and exercise), and has to make negative comments about the simplest things (example: Me "I'm thinking of buying a bike" JW Parent: "You're going to break your leg").

  hey all, i'm still embroiled in my ongoing debate w/a few jw's and now we're on this tangent where they are saying that jws are the most peaceful and law abiding people in comparison to other religious people.

  i said that's not true, there's been many news articles that detail various crimes committed by jws.

  i couldn't find anything right away when i did a google search, so can someone point me to some threads or links that contain recent and past articles of jw's in trouble w/the law or who have committed crimes?.

  based on certain families who i've known personally in the "truth", there was infidelity which resulted in children out of wedlock, drug abuse, abortion (involving an elder's teenager), verbal, emotional, & physical abuse (by parents and spouses), and dependence on public assistance.

  @No Room For George, interesting thoughts.

  I look at my own JW upbringing, and realize now that I was treated pretty poorly by my most "spiritual" parent. It has taken me years to realize that type of behavior (in the name of "Jehovah") is unacceptable. My spouse (who was raised Catholic) is a very loving and logical person. He is appalled by how I was raised, and how I am sometimes treated currently by one of my parents. He and his family are so much more genuine and loving than my JW family/relatives.

  The reason why I asked this question is that Witnesses (at least some of the ones I know personally) portray themselves one way, but it seems like several are more messed up than the typical "nonbeliever" or "worldly" person. I know that everyone is human and will make mistakes from time to time, but it's interesting that certain Witnesses have displayed worst behavior than any non-Witness I have ever known.

  I am no longer depressed, I do not have unnecessary fears, I'm a nicer person, my self-esteem is so much better, and I no longer believe in religion at all. So yes, I have changed for the better!

  Struggling

  i have been df-ed for almost 9 years.

  just out of curiosity, has anyone decided to find another religion or belief after being jw?

  i struggle with my feelings, my mom and brother, aunt, cousins are all jw.

  Being abandoned by family members is hurtful, unloving, and a form of abuse. I haven't been involved with the JWs for most of my adult life (I was involved all of my childhood). My family hasn't completely abandoned/shunned me. However, they flip flop on how they treat me (based on whatever the elders say at a meeting...a.k.a. "new light"). One JW family member in particular doesn't talk to me at all, but quite frankly that's fine with me (he's an awful person anyway). The only time it hurts is when my parent plays emotionally cruel games with me, in the name of "Jehovah".

  I am not a religious person, and I don't think I ever was. I do not believe in organized religion at all. I think it's dangerous! Everyone has to find their own way. I doubt finding another church or religion is going to solve any problems, or replace that need for family interaction. Nevertheless, if you're able to find a person/people who will love you unconditionally and love yourself completely, you'll find true happiness.
