Why Christmas Is Important

every year, i take some time to express my admiration and respect for christmas.. yes, christmas, folks.. i don't give a rat's a$$ when jesus was or wasn't born.

i don't care how many gift giving orgies the romans had.

i don't care about "pagan" customs derived from religions that are long dead, anyway.

I suppose if it helps to think that everything the WTS says is untrue. But there are truths and many Christians who do not follow the WTS do not celebrate Christmas.

What actually drew me in was that they considered themselves Christans and did not worship Christmas. What drew me out was the organization itself, but

that does not make everything that you already know and learned invalid. In fact, most of the world knows these things.

Consiider this, if it is not about centuries old tradition based on something, then use no trees, don't speak about Santa and especially not allow children to pray to Santa. Matter of fact, don't call it Christmas but something like "festivus". Will your family accept you if you did this, or will they insist that if you celebrate Christmas, you do it "right"?

Muslims and Jews don't celebrate Christmas. They have extended family they always have to give reasoning on not celebrating. It's celebration for good reasons or bad and whether you believe it has religious connotations or not were not created by the society. I respect your decision, but welcome to the real world of choice.

Please reccommend older Watchtower publciations for stumbling purposes

first time poster here but i've been lurking a while.. i have a question that i was hoping some of the watchtower historians might be able to answer.

if a witness was willing to read some of the organisation's older publications, what books would you get them to read and how do i get these books?.

my family are witnesses and my father is an elder.

Invetigator74 brings it out, kindgom halls are geting rid of older publications. So the source of any you find would be questionable to a current witness. Earlier this year, it has been now discouracged to supply or receive recordings of talks from some brother or congregation besides your own. This used to be commonplace everywhere I went. So I don't know how much weight an older publication may go toward your father if the idea that the GB is inserting is not to trust any sources except the local congregation and current material with new light.

Will jws be at your and your neighbor's doorstep this Saturday?

i would think that a portion of the non-jw population might be at church.

i don't think there are any football games that day.

what would you say or recommend to your non-jw neighbors?.

Sorry if this sounds the wrong way, but those in my local congregation were always eager for service on the holidays. It's almost like they wanted to be out and experience what the holidys were about. Personally, the holidays never meant much to me. They can come knock or not knock. Just another day and I dislike my neighbors.

13 In some parts of the world, yet another change in family life has occurred—numerous couples have decided to remain childless. Some do so for economic reasons; others do it because they want to be free to pursue a lucrative career. Among Christians, there are also couples who refrain from having children. However, they often do so to be freer to serve Jehovah. This does not mean that such couples do not enjoy a normal married life. They do. Still, they are willing to place Kingdom interests above some of the privileges that go with marriage. (1 Cor. 7:3-5) Some of those couples serve Jehovah and their brothers in the circuit and district work or at Bethel. Others serve as pioneers or as missionaries. Jehovah will not forget their work and the love they show for his name.—Heb. 6:10.

That last sentence and scripture seem to sum up and imply that not having children to preach more means you love Jehovah because you made adjustments. If you have kids , ehh.

Broken Promises, sorry if it came out as judgemental. Thats not the intent. Thats why I had the thumbs up. After all, if we play the standard cards dealt in the society "love for Jehovah should be more than a mothers maternal instinct". But these are ones who probably would never fade away, but this seems to be the least one can do to "rebell" as meangirl brought out. I also know of older couples whose children are beyond youth suddenly get another child.

how familes have had to adjust and have less ministry time after having children....... Or maybe they did

Does anyone else observe the same thing?

When thinking about some newlyweds with new kids, I know these particular born-in sisters seemed ready to do more than just

settle down with a mate, they want to settle down and, awwwwww, they have to take care of the babies this Saturday. Or go out

in field service and are, awwwwwwww, only able to sit in the car with bambino.

It's a cop out! Did they forget that armageddon was right around the corner?

No, they were teen pioneers, went to Bethel, rejected all wordly things but were the most drawn to them. They

seem to see marriage and kids as a small way out. Now they can finally rest... By being a full time parent and

recycling it over again. God, I feel for the kids.

The WT is not the authority on refuting when Jesus may have been born. There are other sources but the weather thing is interesting.

Interesting Topic. I follow the logic. However, there must be some credance to what YHWH means based on what humans regard as

a god to borrow tec's thought. For example, role models. Many people regard actors and athletes as role models. It's only a label, but it does not take anything special to

give that label to just about anyone. There is the thought that if you give too much of yourself/power/time/attention to something, it becomes your "god"

The general deflection that I see is putting the blame, not on the society as a whole, but on "the overzealous"

for the 1975 debacle. As if there was no direction from the society regarding 1975 but rather Witnesses came up

with it on their own and wrongfully made life adjustments of their own accord.
