Thank you for the hugs and kind words you posted to me. I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but you mentioned that you got over the same things that I am dealing with. How did you do it? I don't know how to go to chat room, but if you can't talk here could you email me? Thanks again, Kilroy

Not if, but when...
by teejay ini was raised in the truth.. it was about six weeks past my fifth birthday when my mother was contacted by "jehovah's people" and a few months short of my sixth when she got baptized a half year later.
that was the summer of 1962.. because of my experience with the truth from such an innocent age when thought patterns were first being formed, one of the tricks that was played on me one of the lies that was passed along is that some of those of my generation happened to be among the most fortunate of all of mankind since some of us would never die.
if i did my best; if i tried hard enough and did everything that was within my power to do; if i found favor with the most high god, i might well be one of those who'd never taste death at all but live right through this world's end into a global paradise.

Wow! This one hit me right between the eyes! Since I was never to grow old and die I should still be 29 years old. Here I am 69. Get out and enjoy life? Would that I could. Severe depression, chronic fatigue and a battle with the bottle that I am still working on. I hardly have the energy to take a shower let alone getting back to the ice arena. Bastards! Yes, I am still angry.

The JW religion or the person, whose fault is it?
by larc ini just read the tragic story of the man in chicago who beat his daughter to death.
i have read stories here and on silentlambs about sexual abuse.. my question is: how much fault can be placed on the religion and how much on the perversions of a particular individual?
i frankly don't know the answer to this question.

Old Hippie,
I don't know about the "it is known" part of Sirona's post either.
However, the part about abolutely forbidding outside mental help is definitly true. The WTS insisted that a shrink would make you believe that all your problems were caused by your religion. I remember it as if it was yesterday. I don't have any old literature and even if I did I would need an OLD index which I also don't have. You will never find any of their stuff that they don't want you to read listed in any newer index because they have carefully edited it out.
It has only been in the last few years that they have encouraged outside mental help. And most of my problems and those of a lot of witnesses were definitly caused by the religion. We were in for 38 years and it was a bumpy ride. All that talk about Prozac in the congregation really makes you wonder. After all, where there is smoke there is generally something smouldering.

Child abuse - Jehovah, Jesus, HS, and GB
by Norm inthere is one aspect that seems to be missing totally from the subject of child abuse.. the watchtower has up through the years told us time and time again how those 4, jehovah, jesus, holy spirit and the gb has appointed elders as gifts to the congregations of jehovah's witnesses.. back in the fifties, the watchtower society was very honest and open about who really appointed the watchtower elders:.
*** jv 54 5 proclaiming the lord's return (1870-1914) ***.
back then, it was customary for the congregations to vote each year for those who would preside among them.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what sort of test they used to find out if a girl was a virgin (had not lain with a man). What did they do upend her and have a look like when you are looking at a batch of kittens or puppies? Could never figure that out and still can't. And what did they do to her when they got her back to camp or home?????????????? As if I didn't know!!!!!

Thanks everyone. I've already done the Paxil and Wellbutrin. Neither did anything. I guess I'll have to try something else.
Francois, I've been on all these natural things for years. I guess I'm a hardcore something or other. At least you people care and I really appreciate that. If I find something that works I'll let you know. Thanks again. Kilroy (was here)

Breaking free of the OIL habit.
by Amazing independancy: the usa, the western world, north and south america, and like many nations of europe and japan, are highly dependant on oil.
i recall as a kid in the 1950s seeing gas prices at 5 cents a gallon.
i remember my parents getting bent out of shape when gas finally reached 11 cents a gallon.. 1971: my wife and i traveled to southern california to visit friends and family.

Why can't the US and other arctic countries develop the oil fields that lay untouched? Oh, that's right. The country is so pristine it's natural beauty might be destroyed. Who the Hell ever sees it???
Rembember the oil crises of the late seventies? Remember the interest and development of solar energy? Does the sun come up every day or what? It's almost impossible to find interest in solar energy these days. Oh, that's right! It will cost MONEY! Okay, stay status quo. Just stop whining about it!

Mispronunciations at the meetings
by TR inmoxy raised a point in the "exaggeration" thread that aggravated me at the meetings.
mispronunciations.
moxy mentioned the word 'hyperbole' as frequently being mispronounced.. another one that bugged me was 'epitome'.

I hate it when realtors say re-lator.
We had a brother give the whole Sunday morning talk saying viligent instead of vigilent in prayer. Hubby corrected him afterward. The brother was the Ministry School Overseer!

Pets
by kilroy ini have noticed in a few posts lately that there have been negative articles concerning being owned by pets.
the only bound volumes i have are 1991 through 1995 and the only things i can find in the index are a few snippets in watching the world except for an article in the 1/22/93 awake which was quite possitive.. the negatives that i read are that pets take time and money away from service to our dearly beloved printing society.
can anyone give me some quotes?

Thanks, Blondie. That was what I was looking for.
And Freddie you would be so much more fun to pet if you had fur on your head instead of those godawful horns.
