Who's behind the WT / JW.org?
by elkatire1980 ini have always thought that the members of the governing body are just a decorative elements in the visible cusp of the organization.
i have read conspiratorial topics about who really rule, but they are not visible.
the shareholders of the corporation?

Cofty is correct. The Watchtower Corporation is run by its lawyers and accountants. The GB is a figurehead, they fool the flock into not thinking Watchtower is the only true religion when in reality it is a money making non (for) profit organization. -

Atlantis, hello back to you! Thanks, really do not need an outline, Doctor Who posted the one above, they don't change much. I just started wondering if the numbers are even mentioned at all anymore after talking to my dad and learning how completely unaware of that he was. Years ago the anointed on earth declining on earth was one of Watchtowers proofs that they had it all right. Thanks, Pontoon -

Prologos----------I've always felt that way. Jesus did not even invite any disciples so where is the bible precedent for inviting absolute strangers and even non Christians to the memorial? If there really was a GB back then wouldn't they have been invited? Didn't they teach all the early Christians were heavenly class? The answer is there is no precedent.. Funny just today they sneaked up to my door and left an invitation, no knock on the door. They irregularly stop at my house but it seems they really don't want to talk to me anymore. That's OK, I really have nothing to say to them. -

I phrased my post wrong. I'm not looking for an explanation, I know it's all made up. Does the speaker offer to the audience any information about the numbers, even if the door is still open the "anointed" are still dying off. -

Why a JC if the adulterous mate is forgiven?
by snugglebunny insupposing a man's wife has had an affair, confessed all and genuinely regrets what's happened.
the husband, after much soul searching and agonising, realises how much he still loves her and how much both of them want to rebuild their shattered relationship.. why should that woman then have to sit in front of a judicial men-only committee and give a blow-by-blow account of her affair?.
how would that make her husband feel, knowing that his wife is sharing intensely private stuff about her affair with several other guys?.

I served as an elder for about 15 yrs. When forming a committee for a case that involved adultery, fornication I would not volunteer myself ever. There was always certain brothers that would not miss a chance to sit on a judicial covering that type of case. I always felt that these same brothers were closet perverts, actually enjoying hearing about the sexual misbehaving of others. -

Growing number of memorial partakers explained(?) by local elder
by stillin ini brought this up in a conversation after today's meeting.
the elder knowingly acknowledged the growing number and pointed out that of course, now we understand why this is so.
i gave my best blank stare and said "we do?

What is the basis for authority for the governing body?
by Half banana ina word to jehovahs witnesses: what is the basis for the authority the seven members of the governing body can claim in controlling the lives of eight million followers?
the organisation they represent has never got one useful piece of information correct in one hundred and thirty five years... so why should they be believed?.

A huge part of their authority comes from the millions of witnesses that recognize and accept them as their authority. They are only the authority over people who allow them to be. Most of us on JWN decided not to let them have authority over us anymore and that's it, they no longer do, nothing they can do about it. Can't arrest, prosecute, fine, or jail us. No more authority. -

A little about the taxes in this area. No doubt some of the highest school and property taxes in the nation but definitely not an area with an abundance of well paying jobs. So when Wat buys these properties and takes them off the tax rolls all taxpayers rates have to tick up to make up that difference. A lot of rural area around here and it is not unusual for a person to have more than a few acres of land. I'll use myself as an example. I have 4 acres, house, garage and my school and property tax together is almost $7,000 a year and it goes up every year. School districts are crying every year for more as are the towns and counties and the property owning tax paying citizens around here are taxed to their limit. Many are selling out because they can't afford to live around here anymore. So this tax exempt crap is a serious issue around here. Pontoon from the overtaxed mid Hudson Valley. -

Watchtower in local newspaper
by lostinthought inforgive me if this has been posted already but this was in my local paper today.. http://m.recordonline.com/article/20150307/news/150309486/0/wap&template=wapart.
if you have time to read, this is an interesting article talking about watchtowers property in ulster and orange county ny and how much the properties are worth.
it also goes on to show how the tax exempt stays is hurting the communities..

Not the reason. The reason for the ladder truck donation was Wat couldn't get permits to build the Patterson residence because the town didn't have a ladder truck large enough to provide adequate fire rescue, so Wat bought the truck they needed so they got their permits.
