  Richard Ashe Court Deposition - " Let elders handle child abuse- don't talk about it "

  as some of you know i was given pdf files of much of the conti and lopez child abuse court cases and asked from a friend to peruse through it and post some excerpts on the board here that may have been missed or not addressed in the pbs newshour report or the abc news nightline report.

  so after going through this richard ashe testimony i feel i found something quite interesting that exposes the real attitudes of the wt society leaders towards child abuse and the attitudes wt leaders put into it's appointed men's minds as well.

  the viewpoint that richard ashe displays is repeated in elders throughout thousands of jw congregations on this planet.

  Richard Ashe continues in answering Zalkin, " But you try and help them ( child abuse victims ) to see that by talking about this with others indiscriminately , especially an allegation of child abuse that has not been proven or established by means of scriptural standard of evidence- may NOT be in the best interest of the person. .

  jwleaks beat me by pointing out the strawman introduced by the word "indiscriminately". Still I'd like to add the introduction of "scriptual standard of evidence" - which I gather is a euphemism for the two witness rule - would mean that no victim should speak out unless the abuse was observed. Doesn't leave a victim with any options except suffering in silence for the reputation of the organization.

  i've been dating a jw girl for about 4 years and we've recently had a lot of issues with the fact that her family doesn't like that i'm not a jw.

  i've been looking into the religion and am interested in it.

  but is it wrong to join just so i don't lose her?

  You assert that god exists

  I tried to avoid using the word "god" because it is generally understood differently eg the Bible

  and that he is personal, takes an interest in your life and circumstances

  Where did I say that? Answering questions was all I've claimed

  and cares enough to give you "specific" help with your sums

  That is a massive claim of knowledge about your deity.

  Which I haven't made

  But when faced with a very simple question like, "why would he help you with your maths but not save the life of a quater of a million men, women and children?" you move the goalposts

  If you understood that I was arguing for a personal and caring anthropomorphic God, despite all I've written, your comprehension skills are weak. So hopefully now you see I didn't move any goalposts

  and pretend that you couldn't possibly know about god because he is greater than you.

  More insult in place of logic. Show where I've pretended anything.

  Look, our positions are miles apart. I'll read carefully and hope you will try too. Back later.

  No I didn't say that. I said claiming god helped you with your sums is a massive claim of knowledge about the nature of god.

  Back to sums,are we? I thought logic would try you too far. And how is that a "massive claim"? I'm only saying that I sometimes get help, inspiiration, guidance when I ask for it. Many people make this allegedly "massive claim".

  It would be a great help if people would read more than once before they type.

  You still haven't

  2. Supported your claim that PB "blithly dismissed" the deaths

  3. Explained why a believer in a higher power or gold must be able to justify that beings actions.

  It would be nice if you addressed the issues rather than the constant drum banging.

  No, that what Cofty claims. Please show me where I moved goalposts or where my claim was shown to be false.

  How is that position different to 'its a mystery and I don't don't know whats going on here'?

  It isn't; the only difference is in the words. I'm arguing that it's a valid position.

  Belief (ie without evidence) in a higher power or god (very vague) but not able to account for its in/actions

  How can any believer in a higher power understand and justify that power's actions? If they could it wouldn't be a higher power.

  (again, no real clue about anything) That's a pretty soft position you argue for. sad

  Guess what, we don't have all the answers! Why is ackowledging that sad? Personally I'm happy that there is so much more to be learned.

  Cofty, it is nothing of the sort. How have I claimed my belief to be special?

  You believe in something that you refuse to define but you are certain it gives you answers to maths questions

  Do please wash your ears. I never claimed it gave answers to either sums or maths questions, rather new logical approaches. And CANNOT DEFINE does not equate to REFUSE TO DEFINE.

  That is a massive claim of knowledge about this god and what he is capable of, but when it suits you you resort to claims of inscrutibility

  Right, now not knowing is "a massive claim to knowledge", eh?

  To summarise: It is a valid position to believe in a higer power or god but not to be able to account for what it does or doesn't do. Linking to your summary does not refute this.
