I know an elderly sister (who just recently passed away), her and her husband took the WT's advice and did not have any children. The years marched on and then she lost her husband. Although there were individuals from the congregation that helped her she once told me that "she felt like a burden to the congregation and she regretted deeply that she did not have children". When she died I found out that ironically she left most of her estate to the Watchtower! The very organization that gave them life altering bad advice ends up with a huge sum of money for this deed. It is just so wrong and disgusting!

Rutherford 1942 "Don't have kids till after Armagedon...Watchtower 2008 same advice!! Sick!
by Witness 007 ini was shocked to read in the "witnesses only" study watchtower this stupid rutherford policy was still in place, compare.. rutherfords last book "children" {ironic title} 1942 - page 281 "wait until after armagedon to bring children into the world...it is only afew years...until armagedon...those with infants will have greater woe...it will be a far greater difficulty to care for them during the tribulation...".
so if you were 20 years old in 1942 and waited......till 2011.....do the math.. wachtower 2008 april 15 p.19 "heading: "single and childless for a noble purpose.
" ...numerous couples have decided to remain childless...to remain free to serve jehovah...putting kingdom interests above some of the privledges that go with marriage...jehovah will not forget...there will be a great tribulation...it will be a difficult time for us adults and children alike...".

sir82, I agree the illustration was bogus, however I could not focus on anything but the "manure application". Still makes me laugh-I love it!

Our C.O. really put his foot in his mouth last night. He went to illustrate how we should be diligent and unwavering in our ministry and used Luke 13: 6-9 where it says;
“Then he went on to tell this illustration: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it, but found none. 7 Then he said to the vinedresser, ‘Here it is three years that I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, but have found none. Cut it down! Why really should it keep the ground useless?’ 8 In reply he said to him, ‘Master, let it alone also this year, until I dig around it and put on manure; 9 and if then it produces fruit in the future, [well and good]; but if not, you shall cut it down.”
He said Jesus represented the vinedresser and the Master was Jehovah. Three years into Jesus ministry Jehovah was ready to throw in the towel to the despondent Jews but Jesus pleaded with his father to give him more time. So Jehovah did just that-six months to be exact.
Today we are like the vinedresser that needs to work even harder to cultivate our territory and as it says in verse 8 to “fertilize our territory.”
I laughed out loud because for the first time this C.O. nailed it as verse 8 says the vinedresser used MANURE-more precisely SH_T! How true - our preaching work was referred to as spreading crap-finally they got it right!!

Jehovah's witness meetings are NOT BORING......
by punkofnice in...i was told but they usually were as i look back.. as a lad i'd sit and look to see who the lights would fall on.
i'd get an almond and see how long i could suck it before i chewed at it.
i'd imagine playing rock'n'roll on the congregation's piano.. how did you get through the meetings when you were bored?.

AZheat...those were the ONLY good memories as we needed those to block out the memories of our incessant beatings we received at the meeting or as soon as we got home for not being a robot. At least if the punishment was delayed until we got home, I always had time to get on at least three pairs of pants before the beating (which was done out of love) commenced!

When I was a kid, in the basement of our hall all the supplies for the Circuit and District ASSemblies were stored there. Me and my mates managed to break into these storage areas to find anything edible. The big score was finding the boxes of sugar cubes! We later used these for sugar cube dodgeball...it was a hoot!

Resigned
by Franklin Massey ini finally resigned as an elder.
my conscience wouldn't allow me to continue.
i've battled for years trying to reconcile the fallacies of the wt society with my own personal beliefs.

I am in the exact situation as you including being a 'born-in with lots of family and friends in the Org'. It is very liberating to finally be freed from the enslavement of the WT. I am very happy for you, keep us posted on how the "fade-out" goes. I am trying the same thing-very slowly.

Lack of take up of Advance Directive forms
by billyboy inas some of you know, i am an elder in a southern england congregation.
the britain branch ( policy letter dec 8th 2007) stopped all hlc brothers giving talks at other congregations and as a result the take-up of the advance directive form (ad) has dropped dramatically.
jws are presenting themselves at hospitals without the form and nhs staff are phoning the hlc to ask that an elder visits to help them compose it while in hospital.. the uk branch is asking hlc members to meet up with bodies of elders so that we can "educate the brothers" (their expression) - we had our meeting a few weeks ago with a couple of the hlc brothers.

I shredded mine a few months ago. Then a couple of weeks ago I was approached by a young couple in our hall and asked me to witness their MD form. I could not do it in good conscience so I amade up an excuse that it would be better to ask an elder to witness it for them. Poor souls!

Thank you for all your suggestions and observations. To clarify a common question; yes we did have a witness wedding.
This is a very emotionally charged situation. I feel her comments were a "knee jerk" reaction. We exchanged emails tody and she is beginning to see my point of view. She has seen this coming for a while and I think the reality of it is really starting to set in. We have very strong JW family ties on both sides which makes it difficult for me engineer a fade from the organization without family pressure and I think she is trying to sheild me from that inevitability. I will take to heart some of your suggestions such as filling the meeting times with other family activities and associating with some non-believers. (my wife has never been judgemental this way and we have regularly asoociated with friends outside the congregation) We just returned from a great family vacation and the WT on Sunday caught me by surprise. It really upset me and got the better of my emotions.
Thank you again to everyone for your kind and candid words!
