I wanted to bring this thread back up to the top.
We need more of this kind of positive energy right now I think.
There was a similar thread started in the past few months but cannot remember the title for searching.
Many people listed what they were thankful for and/or considered their greatest happiness. Anyone remember that thread?
Kismet - feeling very happy and positive ...drug free even!!! LOL
it seems that brooklyn better come up with a different type of week.
those pesky babylonians are exerting satan's influence every time we wonder what day of the week it is!

i know there's a million more out there, so post 'em!.
whilst speaking with pops last night, i asked how he felt about not getting his subscription any more.
he was trying his best to be chipper about it.
Historically, Canada has always been the testing grounds for American corporations, including the Watch Tower Society.
Back in the early 90’s the Canadian post office, in an effort to promote Canadian Journals decided to discontinue their second-class bulk rates to non-Canadian magazines. Since all mags originate in New York, with the only modifications done in Canada is to Canadianize the English and to convert to metric, the WT and Awake were deemed to be American magazines.
This would have meant that all subscriptions would cost approx. $0.30 per mag just for postage as opposed to the 0.06 they were paying previously. (approx 120,000 subs per issue, therefore 120,000 x $0.24 = $28,800 per issue) So it was decided to deliver in bulk, pre-addressed subscriptions to the Kingdom Halls or central literature depots for publishers to deliver.
The rationale? It was a cost savings initiative. Also the following reasons were given and highlighted. Each delivery would count as a return visit, thus increasing the number of return visits reported. It also meant more conversations. Often people who subscribed were forgotten except at time of renewal. It was hoped it would increase the number of Bible Studies.
Thank the deities (of your choice if any) that result did not happen. People still weren’t home, so a RV could not be counted nor did more studies start.
Anyway that was the official lone used by the Canadian Branch. Count on similar down there in the States
Kismet - who, unlike some Mensa people, doesn't feel the need to submit my post three times Season Greetings Red!!!!

Kismet
we visited angharad's parents at the weekend and got a call on sunday night from her sister who'd been called by my sister as they hadn't been able to contact us .... the message was not a happy one:.
my dad has had a heart attack and was in intensive care in hospital.. it was a while before i managed to speak to anyone over there with people probably out but i eventually spoke to his wife who says he's doing ok and has now been moved to the main ward but is being kept in as you would expect.
he may have to be moved to calgary for some investigation / tests.. he had heart surgery about 15 years ago and i think 4 of his 5 bypasses have failed so he has to take quite a bit of medicine for pain and stuff.
Hey Simon:
I am sorry to hear about your dad not being well.
When it comes to an ailing parent, your sisters' position does not hold water. He is still her father and she bears a responsibility there. Perhaps a reminder along those lines might be in order.
As far as you coming across the pond, if there is a lay over in Toronto, please let me know and I will meet you at the airport, buy you a beer or something. I'll email you my cell phome number so you can reach me even at the last moment.
Wishing you and your dad all the best.

in 1972 the great irish balladeer don mcclean introduced the song "american pie.
" it was and still is a classic.
the song is full of symbolism and even to this day almost thirty years after the song was first introduced, mcclean will not reveal the real meanings behind much of that symbolism.. in that song, he sings about "the day the music died.
I used to be of the Buddy Holly camp as well. Interesting thread Fark.
One of the things that did jump out at me however during the thread (which is what I thought your point was - duh as if I could know the mind of a farkel.. smirk).... was that anything can be open to interpretation and be used to match whatever position/supposition one may be predisposed to wanting to believe.
Only the one's who wrote the words knows their meaning yet so many people want to apply it to their situation... kinda like the Bible

12:00 -6:00 Intentional Religious Communities and the Secular StateVisit two religious communitarian societies in Brooklyn, the Jehovah's Witnesses Community Center and the Lubavitch Youth Organization, and meet with community leaders. Like seventeenth century communitarian societies in early American history, these are intentional communities organized around specific religious goals. The focus of these visits will be to understand how communities of this sort can thrive in the midst of a large secular urban society.
It apparently is referring to the Cummunal Centre of the Witness community in Brooklyn. Note it refers to the intentional community build for specific religious purposes.
So the JW Community Centre is how they are referring to the various buildings that make up the Watchtower HQ.

My father received this by email. I knew some of the foolowing but not all. Of note this was sent by a Masonic 'lodge brother' of my father's. He then wnet on to explain the significance of the number 13 to Masons. I figured I would spare the board of that part.
Kismet - who still shudders to hear someone referred to as Brother **!
The United States One Dollar Bill
Take a minute....
Take out a one dollar bill, and look at it. The one dollar bill
you're looking at first came off the presses in 1957 in its present
design. This so-called paper money is in fact a cotton and linen blend, with red and blue minute silk fibers running through it.
It is actually material. We've all washed it without it falling apart. A special blend of ink is used, the contents we will never know. It is overprinted with symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed to give it that nice crisp look.
If you look on the front of the bill, you will see the United States
Treasury Seal. On the top you will see the scales for a balanced
budget. In the center you have a carpenter's square, a tool used for an even cut. Underneath is the Key to the United States Treasury.
That's all pretty easy to figure out, but what is on the back of that dollar bill is something we should all know. If you turn the bill over, you will see two circles. Both circles, together, comprise the Great Seal of the United States. The First Continental Congress requested that Benjamin Franklin and a group of men come up with a Seal.
It took them four years to accomplish this task and another two years to get it approved. If you look at the left-hand circle, you will see a Pyramid. Notice the face is lighted, and the western side is dark. This country was just beginning. We had not begun to explore the West or decided what we could do for Western Civilization.
The Pyramid is un-capped, again signifying that we were not even close to being finished. Inside the capstone you have the all-seeing eye, an ancient symbol for divinity. It was Franklin's belief that one man couldn't do it alone, but a group of men, with the help of God, could do anything.
"IN GOD WE TRUST" is on this currency. The Latin above the pyramid,
ANNUIT COEPTIS, means, "God has favored our undertaking." The Latin
below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means, "a new order has begun."
At the base of the pyramid is the Roman Numeral for 1776.
If you look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully, you
will learn that it is on every National Cemetery in the United States. It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida National Cemetery, and is the center piece of most hero's monuments.
Slightly modified, it is the seal of the President of the United States, and it is always visible whenever he speaks, yet very few people know what the symbols mean.
The Bald Eagle was selected as a symbol for victory for two reasons:
First, he is not afraid of a storm; he is strong, and he is smart
enough to soar above it. Secondly, he wears no material crown. We had just broken from the King of England. Also, notice the shield is
unsupported. This country can now stand on its own. At the top of
that shield you have a white bar signifying congress, a unifying factor.
We were coming together as one nation. In the Eagle's beak you will
read, "E PLURIBUS UNUM", meaning, "one nation from many people". Above the Eagle, you have thirteen stars, representing the thirteen original colonies, and any clouds of misunderstanding rolling away. Again, we were coming together as one. Notice what the Eagle holds in his talons. He holds an olive branch and arrows. This country wants peace, but we will never be afraid to fight to preserve peace. The Eagle always wants to face the olive branch, but in time of war, his gaze turns toward the arrows.
They say that the number 13 is an unlucky number. This is almost a
worldwide belief. You will usually never see a room numbered 13, or
any hotels or motels with a 13th floor.
But think about this: 13 original colonies, 13 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 13 stripes on our flag, 13 steps on the Pyramid, 13 letters in the Latin above, 13 letters in "E Pluribus Unum", 13 stars above the Eagle, 13 bars on that shield, 13 leaves on the olive branch, 13 fruits, and if you look closely, 13 arrows. And, for minorities: the 13th Amendment.
I always ask people, "Why don't you know this?" Your children don't know this, and their history teachers don't know this.
Too many veterans have given up too much to ever let the meaning fade.
Many veterans remember coming home to an America that didn't care.
Too many veterans never came home at all.
Share this page with everyone, so they can learn what is on the back
of the UNITED STATES ONE DOLLAR BILL, and what it stands for...
Otherwise, they will probably never know..
