the recent thread about the nyc firefighters got me thinking about role models.. who are your role models now or your hero?
how does that compare to when you were an active jw?
thinking back my role models while in the org, were a couple of older brothers and sisters who had served jehovah faithfully for decades, suffered in varoius ways but never lost their faith.
I was negligent in not mentioning my father, but again he was one of the role models that switched. He was disfellowshipped when I was quite young and for years I look upon him with distain for turning his back on God (as I then thought).
As I was deciding to leave the Borg I got to know him, and I really came to appreciate what an amazing man he is and how much I aspired to be like him.
My Dad is definitely one of my best role models!

Who are your role models now or your hero? How does that compare to when you were an active JW?
Thinking back my role models while in the Org, were a couple of older brothers and sisters who had served Jehovah faithfully for decades, suffered in varoius ways but never lost their faith. I still hold a couple of the older brothers and sisters in high regard. Not so much for thei faith but for the other qualities that they demonstrated such as kindness loyality generosity etc.
But today these folks are no longer hero material to me.
I have come to learn of the true inner strength of people. Ones who suffer from illness but yet keep on fighting with a smile on their face. Ones who have been abused yet struggle daily for peace but yet have time and space in their hearts for others. These people I respect and admire and hold out as a hero.
The raw courage of those in EMS professions such as demonstrated in NYC. These people are also what I consider hero material.
How about you? How have your role models changed since leaving the Borg?

Although these guys were 'just doing their job' I am in awe of their courage, their strength and their desire to help people.
The men and women in Emergency Services despite their faults and/or mistakes are truly hero material.
I have wondered how I would act in such an emergency. I would like to think that I would rise to the occasion but I doubt too many could compare to the courage and fortitude of the folks referred to in that article.

she's a great bluegrass artist with a phenomenal voice; also a terrific song writer.

Well I have to admit you are right. She does have a great voice. I am not a huge Country fan but I could easily listen to her. I wish her all success at finding a label to produce her!

i am looking for a copy of the 1989 letter to all bodies of elders in canada wherein it discussed the handling of legal matters including a paragraph on handling allegations of child abuse.. i have checked at randy's and kent's sites but could not find the canadian version.
since this is going to be used in a court setting a scanned copy would be best, but we could make due with just the text version.. also rather than re-doing the work someone already may have done, i am looking for a copy of all society articles written on the subject of child abuse.
this interested party has also requested a copy of the pay attention book especially the chapters on forming and handling a judicial committee.. if you have already printed this out or have an extra copy of the 'pay attention' book please let me know at [email protected] and i will provide an address for you to send them.

until recently it was difficult to imagine how such a scenario might play itself out in fulfillment of christ's prophecy.
but, with the ongoing apostasy now accelerating, and the world's financial system rapidly crumbling, and rumors of war a part of daily life, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the stage is being set for jesus' words to become a horrifying reality.
I still say the act of disfellowshipping (the modern day equivilant of stoning) is a far better and less confusing modern day application. The blood issue is just gravy adding to the validity of the scripture apoplying to the internal policies of the Jehovah's WItnesses.
Parents turn in their kids, brothers turn in brothers, and children turn in parents. Didn't the Nazis use similar tactics?

as well as what the watchtower study articles are going to be about for the next few sundays.. i have someone who is interested in going to a meeting to 'observe' the control techniques used and we want it to be a meeting where topics about disfellowhipping, child abuse, or the like will be discussed.. i do appreciate your help.. kismet

You Know:
Jesus said: "Furthermore, brother will deliver brother over to death, and a father a child, and children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death."
So couldn't this just mean a return to the Mosaic Law? Was this exactly what the Isrealites were told to do? Family members were the first ones (after any non-family member accuser) to participate in teh stoning of a wrongdoer. The Society itself as You Know has compared the act of disfellowshipping to this ancient tradition.
If anything the Society has fulfilled this Scripture in a larger way than any apostate group or individual. Families ahve been torn apart as a result of brother turning on brother, children turning their back on their parents treating them as tho they were dead, and parents have done likewise to their children. As far as the parent/children part lest we not forget the blood policy whereby parents have put their children to death out of a warped sense of loyalty to a man-made rule.
Your application takes a lot more explaining than mine.
