"Historical" Announcement This Week?
by headisspinning inmy daughter asked if anyone has heard anything about a 'big announcement' being made sometime this week in congregations in canada and possibly beyond... in her words "it's like a biggggg long thing, they cut out part of the book study for it and people heard it was a historical thing"... any ideas?
could it be the mexican branch closing or the theme of the convention?
or something else?

Congregation had to relocate Memorial...thanks to me
by Shepherd Book inso, the two local congregations were planning to hold their memorial together at 7:30 at the local community center, but they had to make a last-minute change to their own hall, and i'm pretty sure it was because of me.. let me explain.... at work on monday afternoon, a co-worker returned from her lunchbreak and showed me the memorial invitation that was waiitng in her door when she went home for lunch.
i noticed the sticker on the back indicated the memorial was being held, not at the local hall, but at the community center.
from a past (non-jw) event i attended there, i knew they didn't allow alcohol (unless you pay for security guards), so i wrote to the center's coordinator:.

I inquired about whether a liquor permit would be required for Memorial observances held in rented facilities in Manitoba. I was told it is not necessary by the Liquor and Gaming Commission: "The service and taking of sacramental wine does not require authorization or licensing." -

In approximately 2002, a congregation in Winnipeg, Manitoba was dissolved and most (if not all) elders were deleted. The congregation members were amalgamated with a couple of other congregations and given strict instructions not to discuss the details with anyone. Just today, I finally found out what happened: One of the elders doing the accounting for the congregation came across several discrepancies when it came to the CO's monies. After some investigation he realized that this individual had been scamming the organization. He spoke upĀ about the issue and the next thing you know, the congregation was dissolved and the elders that knew what had taken place were stripped of their positions. Apparently this CO is known by his extended family to be a 'scammer'. He was never dealt with and is listed as serving on the body of elders with the Oak Bay Congregation in Victoria, BC. His last name sort of rhymes with 'lawnmower'... -

Problems with the "Bogus AWAA Fan Page"..
by OUTLAW ingood afternoon jwn... .
i`ve spent the morning and part of my afternoon... getting to the bottom of... why names were added to the awaa fan page... it`s a dangerous thing to happen in our world... faders can be outed,we can lose,family,friends... the results can be an absolute disaster... .

Reading through all of this reminds me of when a bunch of JWN vultures attacked Steven Unthank. I cannot begin to guess at what the motivations are behind this hatred and negativity but it is obvious this is not in a spirit of problem-solving or constructive criticism. In fact, seeing whats going on in here compared with the attitude and positivity on Facebook has indicated to me that there is a deep-rooted sickness festering on JWN. The clear message I am getting after reading through all of these accusations has had the opposite effect of what you are trying to achieve - instead of coming away with big questions about AAWAs true intentions, I am actually more troubled over the intentions of their most vocal opponent... the people instigating this witch hunt right here on JWN.

I just visited the group and although the notice states that secrecy cannot be guaranteed the group is only visible to the members. The posts are not visible. The name of the group is not visible. The member list is not visible. Nothing shows up in the news feeds. NONE of that shows UNLESS a person is a member.
I went through the member list and looking quickly, I am personally familiar with at approximately 75% of the names. When I click on the ones that I don't know, I am seeing that they are friends with many XJWs that I do know.
The admins have been very quick to nip any issues in the bud. The religiously neutral stance is being adhered to very closely and members have been alerted that if they have any concerns for hiding their identity, there will be no hard feelings if they choose to leave the group.
Watching what is happening from inside the group, I think the enthusiasm and momentum far outweighs any major issues.
This is only my opinion. I do not speak for AAWA. Just my two cents for what it's worth. -

This is ridiculous!
I don't know how many of the people commenting here have any knowledge of Facebook at all...
The issue with people being OUTED has nothing to do with the main AAWA group. That has been explained ad nauseum.
The ONLY issue with the main AAWA group is that some people were INVITED without their knowledge. The ONLY issue that causes is a minor inconvenience because that group is set to SECRET.
It was the RIP-OFF group that is responsible for adding people to an OPEN page and thereby revealing their identities.
What is unclear about that?

If you liked the Facebook page which is nothing to do with the secret Facebook group, THAT will show up in your news feed.
If you watched the Youtube video and liked it, THAT will show up in your news feed.
A secret group does not show up in your news feed. That's the entire point of a secret group.
Nobody can even see it exists. They cannot see the name of the group. They cannot see the members. They cannot see the posts.
Only people who are in the groups can see.

AAWA ... It's not too late to change the name.... any suggestions?
by Calebs Airplane infirst, i'd like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to cedars, barbara and the rest of the staff who put this together... it's something we all hope will have great success in exposing the watchtower's continuous deception and manipulation.. however, i don't think it's too late to change the name to something less militant or less confrontational.... my humble suggestion is ... pafjw (pacifist association of former jehovah witnesses).

Well said Marvin!
I would also like to add my own experience:
We had this exact same issue over a Facebook page that was created with the best of intentions. People were ranting and raving and fuming and creating a HUGE issue over one word in the title. Finally, it was decided to create an entirely new group just to appease those individuals.
Do you know what happened?
Not ONE single person who went ballistic over the name has partcipated ONCE since they got their way. What does that tell you? To me, it speaks volumes.
It is very easy to criticize the efforts and decisions other people make. If you don't like it, you don't have to participate. And remember, nothing is stopping you from SHOWING everyone else why your way is the best.
