how many kingdom halls are there worldwide?
even better how many in the years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.. i'm asking this to get a picture of the total real estate owning of the jw and how this become to the money-cow in these days..

a false prophesy was promulgated?
q. it had to be accepted by jehovah's witnesses?
q. error?
smiddy3 - "...One in particular that I felt was just waiting for the Holy Spirit to put words in his mouth and they just never came..."
Yeah, I remember that poor fella; he ended up looking pretty lost.
Besides that, it also almost seemed like Watchtower reps expected the Commission to back off at even the most half-assed "Bible-based" argument.
...
Reminds me of something my Dad used to believe...
...that deep down, The World (somehow) actually knew JWs had The Truth, and even though they didn't want to admit it, they still felt compelled to oblige them in legal matters because of it...
...and that that was a big reason why the WTS so often prevailed in secular courts.
It doesn't even occur to most rank-and-filers that the Org's early successes in that particular field of battle was actually the result of shrewd, canny legal reps who only picked fights they thought they'd win, rather than Divine backing...
...I think even the leadership has bought into that particular rhetoric by now.

At least Franz and Covington had the balls to own the more offensive aspects of WT ideology; the current crop would misdirect, obfuscate, and twist the facts into semantic pretzels before copping to any of that shit in a public forum.
Three things...
a) ...I'm still gobsmacked that, after all that, Scotland still gave the WTS tax-exemption...
b) ...it reinforces something I've been saying for years; that they know it's wrong, but believe it's True, at the same time, and...
c) ...this case is the reason the Org will bend over backwards to keep GB members from being put on the witness stand.
the reason that i ask is, in the two years on this forum and you tube, i've seen ex-jw's either drop off entirely or make fewer and fewer videos.
i know the emotional toll can be high.
is that the sole reason, or is it cost (video) or do you think it's external pressure (legal or family)?
i have been quiet of late, developing other interests, happy that there are a whole group of people producing great resources.
however, i found some old emails from ray franz that promoted me to write an article that answers a question i regularly receive.
it is in regards to the motive of governing body members.
the girl next door - "...The higher the position, the greater burden in the mind when doubts creep in. 'The harder they fall' as it were... The GB are painfully ordinary men playing the only game they know at the highest level in full recognition, or at the very least cognitive dissonance, that everything they believe in is in fact complete bullshit.... No doubt each one of them quietly struggles with their own crisis of conscience..."
You're partly right.
After long observation and thought on the subject, I've come to the conclusion that...
a) ...they know it's wrong... but believe it's true... at the same time (it's called "compartmentalization", and career politicians are particularly skilled at it), and...
b) ...the WTS leadership is able to function that way because (I suspect) authoritarian leaders don't actually feel cognitive dissonance.

Without the WTS, the GB would have nothing.
They would be nothing.

watchtorenkijker - "It is remarkable that JW HQ doesn't give any figures of how many kingdom halls there are."
Agreed.
Which suggests to me that said figures indicate something they don't want widely known...
...and since "growth=God's Blessing" has been such an integral component of the WTS's ideological DNA for so long...
...the simplest explanation that comes to mind is the opposite of growth...
...i.e. dwindling numbers...
...i.e. decline.
its amazing how the cult has changed over the years.
they are now suing everyone who has books or internet presences critical of the cult.
this was never done that i can remember before.
Half banana - "Then they must think we are a serious threat to their existence."
The way they've been behaving, that's super hard to argue with.
...
And that, IMO, is the real telling point.
They wouldn't be acting as though the Org's survival was at risk unless they truly did believe (subconsciously or otherwise) that it was.
That fact - in and of itself - suggests that on some level, the leadership knows that the Watchtower Society is Wrong...
...because if they were Right (and therefore had God's backing) they'd have no valid reason to act increasingly defensive of the Org's survival.
...
You shouldn't need to use legal finagling and intimidation to stay in the game if you possess the actual moral high ground...
...therefore, the fact that they do use those tactics indicates that they don't have the moral high ground...
...i.e. they don't have The Truth.
its amazing how the cult has changed over the years.

phoenix rising - "Just like in Scientology they are too stupid to know that this kind of tyrannical behavior only makes more warriors..."
I know, right?
Someone at WTHQ really should Google "The Streisand Effect".
this particular question or evaluation of the people who are participating jws has come up before in debate.
the more one deeply analyzes this the answer usually comes up in the affirmative yes.
when you consider the fact that jws members will abandon their own family, go as far as kill themselves under the direction of these men, it really confirms just how deep the mental and conscious indoctrination these men have gone.. .
Another thing I just thought of...
...
...GB members have always been (or claimed to be) members of the "Anointed", remember?
How many of us have met partakers over the course of our lives, and not found them at least a little... off?
