  GOOD NEWS. UK Charity Commisssion; "No presumption that religion is for the public benefit"

  i tweeted this link a couple of days ago but forgot to post it here .

  the uk charity commission has refused to renew the charitable status of the plymouth brethren, a cultlike sect similar to the watchtower in so many ways.

  as a result, some members of parliament are claiming that the commissions action is a "suppression of religion".

  You're partly right.

  If they remove the WTS's charitable status, it won't be because they're "cult-like" per se, but because, well, they don't really perform any kind of charity.

  As for Scientology, they've lost recognition as a religion because their shady dealings and overtly coercive nature became public knowledge and subject to litigation. Not to mention they've lost credibility because their core doctrines are batshit insane, which is argubly even more important.

  Never underestimate the court of public opinion.

  long story short wifes friend was preaching non stop during an emotional time for my wife.

  emailed friend and kindly asked to stop preaching but still be a friend.

  friend no longer contacts wife and wife is sad.

  I'm assuming this is a rhetorical question, given your post history...

  When I was growing up, my devout JW parents told me that not only did the God that Jesus worshipped fight on behalf of the victims of wrongoing, He also required wrongdoers to live fully with the consequences of their actions.

  When I asked her if that logic extended to the GB and the WTS, she had to concede the point.

  I'm lucky; she's capable of reason (educated), and still associates regularly with me and my family despite my inactive (faded) status.

  Growth in the developed world stagnating, cash flow plateauing, lowest youth retention rates ever, branch offices closing all over the world, real estate being sold at lower-than-valued prices, publications virtually cut in half, "Concious Class" on the rise (a full-on Fifth Column in the making, if you ask me), less and less obedience to the GB's dictates even among the R&F, Sparlock and the deafsterbation vids, angry XJW castaways starting to outnumber the loyal "sheep", and a wave of pedo lawsuits looming on the horizon...

  If I was them, I think at this point, I'd be f**ing desperate for the Big A to come along and bail me out.
