Anybody in this conversation see the irony in calling the WTS “the Borg”? 😏

by ExBethelitenowPIMA ini now view jwlite like the trekkie conventions.
star trek is fiction and all the fans know this full well.

What you think consequences gonna be for watchtower if they lose the court appeal in Norway?
by Hellothere inpersonally i think they gonna realise god's not backing org.
that idea gonna get even more established in their minds.
i think the real selling of kingdom hall gonna start then.

Beth Sarim - “…the Sheeple will question if God ever 'backed' this religion.”
Ten bucks says that by the time that happens, the ones who are even capable of questioning it will probably already be out. 😏

Yup.
The disproportionally high overreaction displayed toward the slightest hint they might lose their exemption is almost painfully obvious when you know to look for it.
The only explanation is that over the years, they’ve allowed the Org’s financial solvency to become dependent on it…
…therefore, the Org’s survival has become dependent on it.

Beth Sarim - “Losing charity status means the Borg will have to start paying property tax on their KHs and properties.”
Yeah, hoser brought that up the other day, and he was spot on.
Who’d’ve thought their angry, panicked, post-Menlo land grab could ever possibly come back to bite ‘em in the ass?
😏

Losing charity-status… losing subsidies…
…either way, they can’t coerce, discriminate, or ostracize on the taxpayers’ dime, anymore.

Murder JW Style (True Crime)
by Tahoe ina home remodeling job in england that went wildly wrong:.
a builder who bludgeoned his client to death with a hammer in a row over her new extension has been jailed for at least 15 years for murder.. peter norgrove killed sharon gordon at her home on 20 july last year.. her daughter rhian brown said norgrove acted like a "wolf in sheep's clothing" after earning her trust at the church they attended in dudley.. wolverhampton crown court heard he led the jehovah's witness service the same night he killed mrs gordon.. he repeatedly lied to her about the work he was doing, which took 15 months instead of six weeks.. .
"he didn't have the experience to be doing the work he was doing," miss brown said.. "he took full payment for the extension in advance, which we believe to be more than £30,000.".

Honestly, I think the Org itself is partly to blame, too.
Keep alienating or discarding more and more decent members with increasingly authoritarian and draconian policies…
…and eventually, all you’re gonna be left with are monsters.

The Next Big Thing In WT World
by NotFormer inthings got a bit lively after the agm leaks in october.
there was a lot of discussion going on on this board for a few months.
now that all the leaks have been more or less confirmed as policy, and we've had lively discussions at length concerning the changes, things seem to have slowed down here.. a few suggestions have been raised as to what might be the next changes, such as women being allowed to wear slacks (in the usa, anyway), decoupling from 1914 as an anchoring date and others.. so, what changes do you think will be announced this year?.
-
Vidiot
Yup.
Which reminds me of something I find very worrisome when it comes to ideology of any kind…
…the idea that believing something without a shred of evidence is considered the highest of virtues, rather than the opposite.

Which reminds me of another of my Dad’s gems…
…that “Worldly” parents didn’t love their children like Witness parents did.
For the record, I had a harder time swallowing that one.
EDIT: In his defence, he mellowed considerably as we both got older. In retrospect, I think it started after he stopped being an elder, but I’m not 100% sure.

This actually reminds me of something my Dad used to say when I was really little…
…that deep down, “The World” actually knew we had “The Truth”, and that’s why mean governments hated us, and not-so-mean governments grudgingly helped us sometimes (paraphrasing, but not much)*.
Being a little kid who naturally assumed my Dad was right, I once said this to other neighborhood kids.
You can probably guess how that went.
*Needless to say, he did not have a particularly high opinion of the government. He even said once that democracy was basically two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner. One bad day, he even spouted his own theory that they wished they could euthanize all senior senior citizens so they wouldn’t have to pay their pensions (in Canada, no less). Seriously.

NotFormer - “…they're already saying that they're not special… But they still want the R&F to treat them as God's earthly channel… while they want governments to believe that they have no influence over JWs…”
…and financially subsidize or exempt them from paying taxes, don’t forget.
“We’re not special…
…we’re super-special!!!”
