'many survivors of clergy sexual abuse have never received an apology or any acknowledgement of the harm they suffered.
but at the may 3, 2024, meeting of the general conference of the worldwide united methodist church in charlotte, north carolina, the following resolution of apology to all survivors and their families was approved.. .
“the united methodist church apologizes for the times we allowed our desire to protect the church to outweigh our desire to care for victims and survivors of sexual misconduct.
Beth - “…The Borganization as we know it, is fully dependant on its tax free status, & cannot survive without it…”
It seems almost painfully obvious in retrospect, considering how their lawyers mobilize the moment it looks even a little bit threatened.

BTW, regarding the irony of the WTS possibly being “attacked” by the “Wild Beast” first, rather than last…
…I used to think that’d be problematic, too, until reports of a recent CO pow-wow in Florida to go over some updates to the Org’s eschatology.
Considering that regular study of the Revelation Climax book was discontinued well over a decade ago (suggesting in retrospect that Fred Franz’s Cold-War-centric End-Times narrative was already being shelved)…
…ten bucks says that particular aspect won’t be emphasized at all in the new-and-improved version (not to mention any portrayal of the UN as an archvillain).
Sorry to be the one to say it. 😕

Bingo.
And despite any recent rumours that the Org is half-expecting the DB’s exposure and subsequent existential threat to their charity-status…
…there is also the fact that if the WTS can be “toppled” (or, really, even just seriously threatened), it can’t very well be “God’s Exclusive Earthly Organization” now, can it? (see entry at top of this page)
Which is an unacceptable prospect for the WT leadership, for all the reasons you can think of.

NotFormer - “…I suppose that their supreme moral law is that the only thing that is wrong and evil is making the GB look bad…”
Not quite.
Their supreme moral law is reinforcing the premise of “God’s Exclusive Earthly Organization”.
At any and all cost.

@ Beth…
By all indications, they’re still constantly settling cases… over and over and over again…
…and the database is still in the possession of outside legal parties… therefore, the odds of its public exposure sooner or later are pretty solid.
The Org’s authoritarian ideology and policies are already placing their tax exemption at risk in more and more developed countries, and the public revelation of undeniable evidence - from confirmed internal WT documentation, no less - of widespread, institutionalized sex crimes and the systemic concealment of those crimes cannot help but increase that likelihood exponentially.
And since more and more anecdotal evidence suggests the Org’s business model is - for all intents and purposes - dependent on its tax-exemption…
…public exposure of the DB will, therefore, strike a financial blow they arguably stand almost no chance of recovering from.
on february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.
“…the way I’d heard it, Ol’ Freddy spent his twilight years aimlessly shuffling around Bethel dressed in Herb Tarleck’s hand-me-downs, and muttering to his shoes.”
And these days, I’m imagining his ghost shambling around Bethel, whispering “what the fuck? what the fuck???”
😏
my wife of many years is more-or-less pomo, but she still (nominally) believes in jehovah and the bible.. she raised her eyebrows when she realized the full scope of the csa problem… rolled her eyes when letto the clown called babies “little enemies of god”… but today, we apparently crossed a real threshold….
…her response to the governing body being referred to as “our future kings” was….
…“what????!!!!!”.
A while back, I’d read that some of the weirder JW urban legends were actually made up on purpose by a handful of Bethelites and sent out into the wild just to see how far they’d go…
…which honestly makes me wonder sometimes if there are PIMOs in the Writing Dept. who deliberately slip increasingly extreme rhetoric into the JWTV scripts as a subtle form of sabotage.
‘Cause let’s be honest…
…the more ridonkulous and over-the-top they sound, the more PIMQs are gonna Q.

May as well be basing it on a fortune cookie, for all the good it’ll do ‘em.
i apologize if this post ends up in the wrong place.
i have been a lurker here for several years.
i thoroughly enjoy this site, have for years, and read something or another on this site many times a week.

I like that.
The more certain you are of something, the likelier you are to be wrong about it.
