Biahi - “…I wish someone with the skills would make a meme of Rutherford and Jaracz in Hell together…”
Narratively, I imagine it going something like this:
“Actually, Maze, you can go find something else to do.
I’ll handle these two myself.”
japan since the 1970''s has had amazing publisher increases!
every year the number of witnesses shot up by many thousands.
this peaked in 1998, since then the number of witnesses and congregations has continued to drop!.
Earnest - “…nothing much has changed since then in relative terms.”
Assuming that any stats the WT cranks out aren’t complete horseshit.
often flicking through watchtower bound volumes i would see pictures of eden which shows the snake in the tree of knowledge with legs??
even the photo drama of creation shows a snake with legs.. watchtower 1964 p.352 "genisis 3;14 {snake}on your belly you will go and dust you shall eat...before god curse it the snake had legs, that elivated it above the ground...god transformed it's body so that it ceased to have legs and was able to move on it's belly.".
god's eternal purpose 1974 "god did not put a curse on the whole serpent family...it had only been victimized by satan.. forrest gump watchtower science is price-less!.
Prehistoric snakes with vestigial legs aren't all that weird.
There are present-day lizards without legs.
"jehovah’s witnesses do not celebrate birthdays because we (the g.b.
) believe that such celebrations displease god.

slimboyfat - “…Babylonish practices…”
Damn, I remember that expression.
When was the last time they used it?

dropoffyourkeylee - “ To which I would add that, in my opinion, Rutherford's intent at the time was to drive a wedge between the WT adherents and the Bible Student movements. The Bible Student movements have diminished to the point most people are hardly aware of them, but during Rutherford's time, about 75% of the religion left the WT and most of them joined in with the various Bible Student associations. A lot of JW families were split, and Rutherford couldn't have his JWs associating with their family at birthdays and other holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
Nice catch.
I knew it about socially isolating members from non-members, but those particulars hadn’t actually occurred to me.
God, what a vindictive prick that guy was.
I’ve long felt that if there’s any true justice to the universe, he and Jaracz are cellmates in Hell.
r51785 - “I think what we have been seeing is a walking back of the religion that Judge Rutherford created.”
Or, at the very least, what Ted Jaracz turned it into.
hoser - “I think wind chimes are allowed now”
Yeah, like piñatas, and (to a lesser degree, tattoos).
Like I’ve said before, go back far enough and pretty much everything has “pagan”/“false religious” origins.
Wedding rings…
…baptism…
…the days of the fucking week… 🤨
hoser - “After being ostracized for decades by not celebrating, all of the social and financial benefits they lost out on by being different than the crowd, they may become bitter towards the organization.”
This.
By that logic, field service checkboxes, beards, and toasting were beta-tests to see how the rank-and-file would respond to bigger things like birthdays…
…and the constant, dialed-up-to-eleven rhetoric regarding the GB’s authority is intended to mitigate any of that bitterness, and compel members to stay the course.
Or am I overthinking it?
