I am not trying to be sarcastic. However, it just doesn't make sense to me. If a Christian is one who "follows Christ" how does that apply to the JW's? There appears to be discrepancies between what Jesus said to do and what they actually do. Seems they follow the WT. Is it because they strive to appear mainstream? How can they deny the diety of Christ, not worship Christ and be Christian?

Terafera,
I can not imagine people eating out of dumpsters RATHER than accept help. It is sad to know they have such a aversion to those outside the KH.

Terafera,
Your story got my attention. I volunteer once a week at a Christian non-profit food pantry. They are non denominational and help those regardless of their religious affiliation. It is NOT a "mission" where they feed the homeless IF the hungry sit and listen to the gospel first. Well, my JW mom asked me if I could refer her JW friend to the program. She knows that I can personally refer one family every four months IF there are openings (right now the waiting list is long due to high unemployment in the area). I asked her, "What's going on?" Well, her friend's husband left her, she has chronic health problems (lupus) and has to make ends meet on disability. I asked if she could get help from the KH, in the meantime as it could take a few weeks. She said the brothers and sisters don't have a food pantry at the hall...she said something about it being an act of "works" HUH??? She then turned around and said something totally contradictory. She said that whenever there is an "emergency" in another country (like earthquakes)...the brothers and sisters donate and the brothers take the money directly to the location and help? I'm not saying they don't BUT I've never heard of their humanitarian relief efforts? Why would the JW's feel taking care of their own is an act of "works"??? What about the care of widows and orphans? Isn't this a Christians responsibility? I just don't get it.

"Daily asprin...Should I or shouldn't I?" HOLY OVER THE COUNTER BATMAN!!! You mean to tell me someone would seriously ask the powers that be at "Awake" for this type of advise??? Do JW's not see the total absurdity of such a question? I just don't get it.

Does Mind Control Exist?
by Dogpatch inthere have been several newspaper stories published recently implying that brainwashing and mind control do not exist.
this is very unusual in that, suddenly before the trial of suspected terrorist cult members, we start seeing spontaneous articles from different news sources telling the american public that mind control does not exist.. this has happened before.
if you want to see an excellent reply to the last time a similar disinformation/misinformation campaign was activated then read the article below the dotted line.

I believe mind control DOES exist. Interesting links by the way. All of this reminded me of my husband's uncle. He was one of those who died at the mass suicide at Jonestown...ie: People's Temple. I've heard my inlaws discuss this at length many times. He was well educated, working as an engineer in the Bay Area. Apparantly, the family claims they "lost touch" with him. He had moved to Ukiah, CA. before anyone found out he was no longer working at his profession. As time went on he had less and less to do with family and friends outside the Peoples Temple. Again, it wasn't till AFTER he moved to Guyana that anyone found out. The Peoples Temple believed in "doomsday". Many of it's followers had an intense fear of an immediate (any-day-now) end of civilization. Of course, their salvation teaching was that the sooner this happened, the sooner they would be whisked away to another planet/paradise. I think this qualifies for a case study in mind control. I've always wondered why so many cults require intensive training, studying, schooling? I believe it retrain the ole noodle, via mental gymnastics, to think albeit subversively in a borg like fashion. If there's a Dx axis in the DSM IV...then there must be a reason why.

Mouthy,
Your post reminds me of several things I've noticed "missing" from my mom's. The first thing I noticed gone from the bookshelf, is the OLD red leather family KJV Bible. It was given to my mom, by my grandma (it had a lot of family information in it). The other thing that I've noticed is a picture of me at my confirmation (raised Lutheran)...of course, I'm standing there with the pastor and the youth pastor (who were wearing their white get-ups with crosses on their sashes) EVIL!!! I wish I had the nerve to ask where these things are. I hope they are hidden away, rather than thrown away. I would have liked the opportunity to have them, if she didn't want them any longer. -

Knock Knock...
by KistByQpid ini'd be interested in hearing some of the exjw's door-to-door experiences.
i've probably had the saturday morning door knocking...maybe 6-8 times.
i've never been "rude" except for once...when i had a particularly aggressive pair who wouldn't take "no thank you" for an answer.

Did you like it? Hate it? Were people rude to you? Bet you folks have some stories...who wants to share?

i love survivor though.

Ok...I'll admit I watch it. It has developed it's little demographic "formula" of the contestants and it's totally mindless entertainment...and I'm hooked! My JW mom especially HATES the show! "It's not REAL, those people don't KNOW what REAL survival IS" Ya don't say? No kidding?
