Watch your language boy/girl
by JH inwhen we were in the org, we had to watch our language, and speak correctly and never swear.
people knew we were jw's just by the way we dressed, but also by the way we talked.
do you still talk in the same polite way as before?edited by - jh on 4 february 2003 19:29:28.

What exactly ARE the JWs known for?
by detective ini was reading a thread in which jh said:.
people knew we were jw's just by the way we dressed, but also by the way we talked.. .
now, not to come down on jh by any means, but this raised a question in my mind.

Never having been a JW...here WAS my opinion BEFORE knowing a "real" JW:
#1 Religious fanatical cult members. Strange, unbiblical doctrines.
#2 Elitist. Only THEY think everyone is in awe of their "reputatation" Being Jehovah's chosen few (sarcasm), gives them an obnoxious superiority trip.
Now that I actually KNOW a JW (Mom's a new convert) Heres what I think NOW:
SAME AS ABOVE x 10

Enjoy the Silence
Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little worldPainful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girlAll I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harmVows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettableAll I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm -

i've especially got a kick out of reading the many posts about their "language.
" well, today i'm trying to have a "normal" conversation with my mom...i've decided their is no such thing as "normal" when talking to a zealous jw.

Ok...I have to admit this board has been unbelievably helpful in helping me figure out my JW mom! I've especially got a kick out of reading the many posts about their "language." Well, today I'm TRYING to have a "normal" conversation with my mom...I've decided their IS NO such thing as "normal" when talking to a zealous JW. She asked me if my husband was still working rotating shifts (safe enough topic right???) I said nope...he's on graveyard. When all of a sudden she goes off on how (get this) Shift work is a "symptom" of "this system of things." What the ???? I said, "What system?" She just kept on yapping and I didn't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for her absurd "reality."

Being called brother/sister in public places
by JH inhow did you like being called brother or sister, when you were in public.
i remember once i was inside a bank waiting in line, and all of a sudden , a brother also waiting in line, said to me quite loud, hello brother x .
i felt like a jerk, being called brother in front of everyone there.

Never having been a JW...I just don't get it. My fanatic JW mom wears her sister "title" like a badge of honor. Her calling everyone in the JW "club" Brother/Sister. The first time I heard the Brother/Sister thing I found it both ridiculous and nauseating at the same time.

Help! Neighbor starting a study
by Trotafox ini am so furious.
the very zealous elderly pioneer sister who lives across the street (alberta) has been canvassing the neighborhood for studies.
i watch her walk up and down the street and being very friendly and helpful with her neighbors (all the while preaching to them i'm sure).

I WISH someone would have seen, said, acted upon the JW predators that came knocking on my mom's door. Of course my dad had just passed away and she was "home alone" for the first time in her adult life...KNOCK KNOCK. Unfortunately, no such neighbor existed and I didn't know until it was too late. I now have a zealous JW mom who trolls neighborhoods looking for easy targets ie: emotional misfits. She can't have a DECENT conversation with me or my children, without preaching and bad mouthing the following: the "world", materialistic people, CATHOLICS, "So-called Christians" Idolatry, etc. Honestly, there is absolutely NO NEUTRAL ground, NO SUBJECT we can talk about, without her pathetically trying to "witness" to me. I can no longer leave my kids alone with her. The last time my 8 year old daughter spent the night...she chastised her for the fact that she was wearing a small cross my husband and I had given her. She ranted and raved about crucifiction and the whole cross vs. stake bull and TERRIFIED my daughter with her sheer emotional and fanatic behavior and hideous WT "artwork" She had one of her "sisters" come over and they actually tried to have a "study" with my daughter...without my permission. My daughter LOVES Grandma and didn't know what to do or say when Grandma told her to sit down and listen...that what mom and dad had taught her was a LIE...that she wasn't going to Heaven. Some people have NO concept of what it is to respect other people's boundaries...the JW's are some of the biggest offenders I've ever seen.
I wish there would have been a neighbor, who would have seen this in it's EARLIEST stages...maybe my familie's life wouldn't be the mess it is. Bless you for caring. No one can tell me the WT isn't destructive...it is...if you don't "go along to get along" the next tactic is to divide and conquer EVEN if it means destroying your family in the process...

boomboom car stereos...
by DanTheMan ini live in klumbus ohio, in a neighborhood that ain't da hood but it ain't the 'burbs either.. it seems that if you are a male under 25 in my area and you don't have a 10,000 watt car stereo that shakes the whole neighborhood, well, you're nothing.. i don't get hip-hop culture.
i think that it is a screaming commentary on the cultural rot in the usa.. could someone comfort me or help explain the appeal of this pervasive sub-culture?
the depravity of it all makes me feel so hopeless sometimes.. maybe i'm a little too narrowly caucasian in my outlook.

Dakota...I agree. Somehow, they don't realize they're not as cool as they think they are. Get this: when I was looking for commercial space to lease ...I was waiting for the leasing agent to show up for our appointment. Well, an employee from Blockbuster's (next door to where I was looking)...comes out on her break and opens the doors to her car and cranks up the "tunes" Pretty soon, I'm hearing clear as can be...Mother F, REPEATEDLY! The leasing agent pulls up...she turned beat red, apologized to me and promised me that Blockbuster would be recieving a call right away. I guess someone at Blockbuster forgot to remind this gal (at least 22-23 years old) that it isn't good for public relations/sales to offend everyone within earshot and with kids...Then again some things are simple common courtesy. Guess it isn't as common as it used to be!

I hear ya. I don't get it either. For me, it isn't so much the "music" ...if you can call it that...as a matter of fact it could be any music from absolutely ANY genre. What annoys me is the sheer arrogance that these little punks think that I (and everyone within 6 city blocks) want to be serenaded. What is even more comical, is when you know the stereo system is worth more than the entire vehicle...now there's a case of screwy priorities.
