Has the WT ever said it's okay to steak rare?
by neverendingjourney ini'm revisiting an old topic here, but this was a subject of much confusion for me when i was still a witness.
i went to a spanish congregation in the u.s. and it seemed to be taken for granted by most that you needed to cook beef thoroughly to "get rid" of the blood.
i was surprised when i learned that folks in the english speaking hall would order a steak medium-rare and think nothing of it.. it wasn't until after i left the witnesses that it started to occur to me that if the red fluid that was present when you'd cut the beef was blood, cooking it thoroughly wouldn't get rid of it, it'd just cook it and transform it into another color.

Notice how he said the witnesses stood up to hitler and nth Korea - relevance?I think (and hope) that what the commission got from Spinks was that "JWs Don't Budge". Spinks is making it even easier for the commission to make their decision. And the demeanor of Spinks on the stand is a perfect object lesson for them to peer into the "environment" that Jw children and others must contend with. :) -

Watching Spinks just makes me want SO much to "return to Jehovah" so I can be under the control of such headstrong men again. This is exactly why I quit going to meetings in the first place. To reach out as a brother for "privileges" - you must become like them. So I did and then this realization came to me: I hated myself! I absolutely did NOT want to be like them! so i said, buh-bye. -

McClellan: you miss the point. Civil procedures have mechanisms that JWs don't. JWs don't have the education or means to rehabilitate.

So maybe polygamy will be addressed in the new elders handbook? since in Case 29 the men were already married when they did the molesting. New light! Now married elders who rape can buy a younger wife, YEA!
I liked McLellens comment just before lunch: you understand the bible was written in a particular socio cultural period and things change over time. Do JWs keep up or adjust with the times? Something like that.
I too am amazed at how sharp the commission is - but also how SENSITIVE they are. Something else the GB needs to change.

It's always the older men of the city that do the pelvic exams of the validity of virginity, of course. The women are all at home making dinner for the menfolk... you know, to keep the women busy so they aren't all gossiping.

@ Billy again - That's another scripture which is talking about an engaged woman having to scream if she's raped. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 is talking about a single woman.
what's the difference? a rape is a rape

Doesn't Duet suggest there must've been a whole lotta shakin' n' rapin' goin' on back then? You hardly ever read about how the victim feels about anything though or that she should have a say in anything. Maybe why WT has no regard for women too... a patriarchal society.
