Angus: How do you decide when the bible should be taken literally or interpreted?
GJ: JWs use the bible to explain itself. For example, if a woman cannot ever literally speak, that would be ridiculous. But 1Pet 2:11,12 says not to allow a woman to teach but to remain quiet, not jumping up excitedly and starting an argument (WTF?!?)...the GB tries to get a whole message from the bible.
Yeah, like the part where the Bible says WOMEN JUMP UP EXCITEDLY AND START ARGUMENTS? Show us where Peter had that in mind!!

PM(Peter McClellan): One of the concerns for survivors is having to approach three men. Government uses women as a reflection of our understanding that everyone can contribute to the common good in society.
We recognize there is difficulty for some in approaching men. Is there room for change?
GJ: NO room for women to be elders.
PM: Why is that? Because of your LITERAL interpretation of the Bible?
GJ: Vague description of pilot/copilot relationship, then said: but we have many happy women in org.
PM: Used to be all pilots were men. Not so anymore

likewise grateful. i had so much trouble with the streaming. couldn't even get a video, just bad sound. the RC site must have been deluged w/ viewers and i thought for a moment NO ONE was going to get a decent recording. GREAT WORK!!

Geez,Jackson. Ya can't have it both ways. This is an Excellent observation Crow - A+ !! First he says he can't know what women feel, then later he says he knows the terrible trauma she feels.

That article I just posted about God using women concluded: women tend to hear from God more than men (in the Bible), and yet they maintain that it is the men who have the spiritual authority in the church and home.
Then it says this:
From the Scriptures, we can clearly see that God does not speak solely to men and husbands, even in matters that directly affect them and their families. God can and does entrust his word – with the authority it entails – directly to women and wives. God can and does speak to women without using husbands and male church leaders as mediators. All believers have direct access to God through Jesus and his Holy Spirit, and vice versa.
“There is one mediator between God and people (or humankind), the person (or human being) Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5, literal translation.)

I've read better articles than this about women appointed by God in the Bible, but this one highlights it pretty well. I think Angus needs to direct this question at GJ - what about these women who had authority in the Bible?

This was a revealing interchange:
Angus: Deut 22:23-27 There was no other witness when she was raped.
GJ: but there were circumstances
Angus: yes - the circumstance was she was raped in the field. So is the scriptural basis really so solid for your 2 witness rule?
GJ: Cimcumstances can be the 2nd witness.
Angus: And yet, however, there needn't be a 2nd witness in the case of adultery to be determined according to your Elder Handbook.
This contradiction I don't think GJ had thought too much about.

Angus: Do you accept that JWs don't report child abuse unless legally required? Is there a scriptural basis for this?
GJ: Prov 25:8-10 is one factor to consider. the 2nd issue 1Pet 5:2,3 - elder doesn't have authority over a family whether they want to report or not...or whether the accused wants to report.
