"Deficit" at JW Assembly

i've recently been at an assembly here in romania and there was an announced they were running a 10,000 euro deficit and urging all attendees to donate more money besides the already 5k has was donated during that day.

i really don't understand these things.

it's their own assembly hall.

I think this comment hits the nail on the head. This thread wants to believe that the "deficit" issue is some sort of scandal, because you've all either left the organization or want to. The community of active JW's that continue putting hard earned cash in the box is by and large perfectly happy with that arrangement. No ones knows what you give, so there is no outside coercion. Yes the GB strongly encourage it, but you can just not! Most know that the assembly halls are bought and paid for, and that the per-capita charge largely goes to support the www. Which again most people are also happy with. In the world outside the org plenty of people support any number of charities and causes that may or may not pay huge executive salaries or have poor governance, but we do because we want to. There is no scandal here - just a bunch of people making choices - just different ones to the folks that come here...

it seems like the watchtower is still encouraging "theocratic warfare".

in the no.1 watchtower of 2016, they (ironically) printed an article on honesty.here is something they said:"lyingwhat is it?

saying something false to someone who is entitledto know the truth.

This is a serious point, as the rider that says that lying is only wrong when it's done to those entitled to the truth (which is a long held corruption of the dictionary definition - see the Insight Book section on the subject) means for example that the statements made by Geoffry Jackson to the RAC that directly conflict with stated policy can be dismissed under this definition. He said that a witness who decided to leave and start celebrating Christmas would not be pursued, and this is directly contradicted in the Shepeharding book. He said that he agreed that the commissions work was not an attack by apostates, and yet that is exactly what is said internally. I could go on. As I've said before, for reasons that seem more tenuous by the day, I'm still serving as an elder, but the way the organisation simple re-defines common words (see generation) is just wrong.......

word is that he is a man with a young family who is stressed out and has had enough.

Based on an earlier thread, @konceptual99 might have some local knowledge, but I'm going to wager that this was the Kingsweston congregation. Chatter suggests that the CBoE's youngest daughter packed in the "truth" and he fell on his sword. Others may know more.....

Missed the Meeting

so yesterday was a lovely day where i live and so instead of going to the meeting we went, as a family, out for the late pm/early evening to have a bbq.

we were far more relaxed than if we had gone to the meeting.

we spent far more time talking that if we had gone to the meeting.

Indeed however since you are new here you probably don't know that I am on a long fade and working to get my family out with wrecking every family relationship that we have. You cannot force people to see the reality about the WTS so this is the path I am taking.

Hi Konceptual99 - my situation is very similar to yours reading your account - although I'm still serving as an elder.. so a bit behind you in your journey. I wondered how things were going, becoming conscious personally is one thing, but I see no movement in that direction from my wife, or indeed the kids.. with all my family "in" I feel the stakes are too high to make a clean break.. all ideas welcome!

I am a serving elder, and this letter has not been sent to the Jw.org inbox. I think this is a very well written hoax, by someone who has mastered the language and syntax used in society letters. It's clever, I'll say that. I'd say it's an experiment to see how many R&F are whispering about all this is advance of the AGM..... Of course I might be wrong.....
