I got back from the memorial . . .
by neat blue dog init was pretty mundane for the most part, same songs, same outline.
the only new thing they added was the video at the end, where stephen lett speaks to the visitors and commends them for coming and recommends they go to jwdotorg and also start a bible study.
they also showed a bar graph with figures increasing every year for jws, memorial attendance and memorial partakers.

Memorial.. To go or not to go

haven't been to a meeting since beginning of 2017. .
we weren't planning on going to the memorial, but last week my mother broke down and said that we have to go to the memorial even if it's the only meeting i go to this year.

Emily - as someone who is still an elder, Ill just add this. For some Elders, not necessarily the majority, but certainly the more hardcore element (if you have some in your former congo), then periodically turning up, even just for the memorial, will mean you are still "associated" with the organization. This could mean that finding out you are celebrating worldly holidays etc could lead to an outcome you may not want, and ironically make it harder for your mother to see you in the long run......

we began our fade in jan 2017 and haven't been to a meeting since may 2017. to say this time has been a struggle is an understatement.
it has been a lonely time for us, losing all of our so called friends.

Hi,
Yes there was, on the morning program of the “doing what is fine” assembly and it specifically counselled about not being friends online with dodgy ex-witnesses..... if your old Congo had that assembly recently, that would explain what’s going on with you..

by Kas12 ini had this friend at school who is bisexual and she asked me to date twice both times i said no im not interested in girls that way but then she told everyone that we were dating and now im being called gay and lesbian.
one boy in my class said to me that im going against jws and then started calling me gay and other names.
then another girl in my class said theres nothing wrong with being gay and im being brainwashed by the jws..

Yes. I’ve made a similar comment on another Kas12 string. There is a serious safeguarding issue here, I hope that the young person in question can get some appropriate real world support, and that the mods here take some action.....

by Kas12 ini am 12 years old and im confused because my mam is leaving the truth after 12 years and i want to celebrate xmas but she still doesnt believe that should do it coz even though shes realised society has lied about things she still believes in god.
im unsure whether i believe in god or not but i havent really looked into it much ..

Maybe this is a question for Simon or other mods, but I’m uncomfortable with a 12 year old actively posting here..... I work in an environment where we go through child safeguarding training, and this type of social media interaction with a child is troubling..

New round of elders and MS schools going on, anyone have a inside scoop on any of the info being shared there?
by optimisticskeptic inconfidential items are of most interest of course, just curious what they're talking about there in general and what are the newest things everyone is being warned about, etc.

Parts of this years Elders school were pretty interesting actually. Teaching, reading (not as dull as it sounds), and being more reasonable and balanced as elders. Then spent hours doing para by para reviews of letters on Child Abuse etc. I just wish they would make mandatory reporting the standard, but no..... somebody on here posted a link to all the Talk Outlines if you’re that interested....

Do CO's get a check each time they have a convention?
by suavojr induring our weekend convention with the co i noticed he gets his expenses paid for.
my question is if the co then summits another expense report on the following day?
the circuit is split in a and b, so therefore the co meets with the other half the next day.

This is one of those “nothing to see here” moments. Yes, CO’s do submit expenses, and could so in the way you suggest. But these would be expenses, like some food, fuel, some stationary....... not a new iPhone or tickets to the Bahamas. Like them or not, most, unless they have family money, live very very frugally and go hand to mouth most of the time. And as and when they are given the “privilege” of coming off the circuit to allow some thirty-something SKE grads to get the gig, they do so with nothing .....
