LOL, a hangover. I remember I went to the meeting once w/a crazy hangover. It was the day after my 21st bday. HA HA, partied hard at my brother's house. I was sitting there listening to the brother giving his talk thinking, wow. i'm hungover. im sitting in the kingdom hall, hungover, and there's like 4 brothers up here right now giving the talk. HA HA. i was so wasted. i was so ashamed at the time, but I was all worried people could smell the booze on me. LOL

What was the worst part of the conventions for YOU?
by mochamint22 ini thought it'd be fun to talk about what part of the conventions just made you cringe or be annoyed with.
i can remember a couple things:.
i remember after the tms when they put the list in the back on the announcement board, there were people that would get up while the last song was being sung to write down the info.

I thought it'd be fun to talk about what part of the conventions just made you cringe or be annoyed with. I can remember a couple things:
I remember after the TMS when they put the list in the back on the announcement board, there were people that would get up while the last song was being sung to write down the info. My mom even got in the habit of sending me or my brother back there with a cell phone and call to make the reservation- even while the last prayer is going on. People would push and shove trying to get back there and they would cut in line, and get all pissed off if there were no more rooms at the hotel they wanted.
My mom always having a problem with the hotel. I remember this one year not too long ago in Amarillo, Tx. She made these reservations and when we got there I guess the room was too nasty for my mom's standards so she went to the rooming committee telling them it was unacceptable and she couldnt stay there. They gave her another option for hotel and that didn't suit her either so she just went to some hotel she wanted to stay at even though it wasn't on the list. What happened w/"Kingdom Control" there mom? LOL
Also, people falling asleep, including myself, ha ha. I couldn't wait for the lunch break and I'd drag myself back after that. And those dang SYMPOSIUMS that are like a couple hours long, switching brothers in between. OMG. I just kept looking at the clock, checking the program to see how many more talks there were. And my mom would make us kids STAND UP if we fell asleep. So there'd be all these people and then you'd see us standing up in the front of the stinking section cause we couldn't stay awake. LAME. Whenever new books came out, my mom would also send my brother out in the halls while the last song/prayer and start the line to be the first. And they'd say, for example, there was only enough for eveyone to have ONE- yeah she'd get TWO or more, just cause.
What are some of your funny stories at the district conventions?

Hey Guys!
Quick question came to my mind, Mr.Flipper, as I was reading your post. You mentioned the "blackout on Psychiatrists by the WT society." I was talking to my mom, an active JW, about me seeing a Psychologist and she made this comment that it's recently been said by the society that it's ok now to go seek professional mental health treatment and that it's now been left up to conscience. Anyone know when this "new light" --LOL, i had to do it---was announced? It never ceases to amaze me how things change at the drop of a hat. Things before that were unacceptable are deemed acceptable and encouraged. LAME

What emotions have you been coping with?
by mochamint22 ini wanted to dedicate this posts to just talking about the emotional scars we all have had or maybe still have.
was there a gap of time between you thinking you didn't want to continue and actually, consciously, deciding to no longer continue as on of jws?
it's amazing to me the strong hold this religion puts on you.

Video Of JW's WItnessing
by Pig innew cartoon, i hope this isn't considered spam but this one took me a while and i'd like to share it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_pqu0bln74.
one criticism (god, that word reminds me of the tms) was that my other videos weren't boring enough to match what it's really like as a jw, i think i've captured it a bit better in this video.. also, it's meant to be fairly non offensive because i hope jw's can take a sneaky peak.

Forgot to mention, loved your vid on going out in svc. THATS EXACTLY HOW IT IS FOR REAL!! i was rolling on that one. still laughing! That's how it is, you go for the BORING 15 minute meeting where they read the text for the day, then they put the car groups together and theres always the cliques that work together (of course i was one always left out or put w/someone i didnt wanna work with)
oh man, the one householder with the dog has happened to me sooo many times. i remember being so bugged out cause i didnt wanna be out there ANYWAY and then the person isn't even paying attn to what i was saying. can't believe I also was out bugging people. I remember people actually seeing us when we did street work and running the other way. I always hated when it was my turn to get out and catch someone at the bus stop or in their car in a PARKING LOT WITH THEIR WINDOW UP. yeeeah. hated it.
i felt bad for that kid too, thats happened to me too. running into someone from school. oh it was torture the next week.
good job on that vid and keep em comin!

First, I wanna say thank you to everyone opening up. I can relate to all these emotions because I'm going through them now. It also amazes me how strong the hold of these emotions have on us. Even after many years may have passed.
Daringhart: I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I too feel like I've wasted, and continue to waste, so much time on all of this. I wasted many years, for example, NOT going to college that I'd probably have my PhD by now if I went to school right after I graduated high school(at 15 years of age). I too am ANGERED that I've been lied to for all this time yet I can relate to sd-7 spending hours studying, thinking that maybe I'll believe again.
Joey Jo-Jo: I can relate to how talking to your parents are a waste of time, like talking to a brick wall. I've voiced my doubts w/my mother and brought up to her early teachings by C T Russell and how these are direct contradictions to the teachings of the current organization. I specifically told her about C T Russell and the Mason symbols and his belief in pyramidology and him basing his "prophesies" on that "all seeing eye." You know what she said? She had never even heard of it and she said: "So, we all have things that we have to change when we come out of Babylon." I then reminded of her of how the organization is always talking about building a strong foundation of beliefs and reminded her of Jesus' parable of the houses built on weak and strong foundations. I asked her, "How can we believe so IMPLICITLY and teach others to believe in a religion that was built on a faulty foundation? Built on lies? If they are Jehovah's visible organization and he's guiding them in everything they do, why have their predictions and prophesies been wrong? On NUMEROUS occasions?" Deuteronomy 18: 22 says: " When the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness spoke it. You must not get frightened at him." (NWT) So does this NOT apply because of the "new light" they always talk about? The BIBLE is my authority, not some faulty man-made organization.
There is a very well articulated explanation of why JWs use of Proverbs 4:18 "light" is faulty. Check it out peeps. It was an interesting read:
http://www.cftf.com/comments/otanswer.html
The interesting thing to me, also mentioned by sd-7, is that I also never did an in-depth study of the teachings of JWs "putting it off." My putting if off, though wasn't because of fear of finding out something I didn't want to know. No, it was because I just took the GB at their word and just went with it. It's what I've been taught from infancy. All I've ever known. There was this brother that I remember would always tell me, "Prove it to yourself, Monique." Now, that of course meant studying and researching ONLY in publications from the GB because anything outside of that are sources from Satan. I wish I had done this earlier in my life, and sometimes I really regret getting baptized at 12. It was too young. At least it wouldn't have been so hard to walk away...I can't believe I've been suckered all this time...

Former,
Do you mind me asking: How does someone that's in a "higher" position say, MS, elder, Bethellite or whomever, go from doing all this activity to just walking away so immediately? I guess I just always thought that it was mostly like people getting DFd or are inactive for a while that just don't go back for various reasons. Is it something gradual within you leading up to it, or was it just something that was so offensive that you just walked away? I read your experience about how you had questions and doubts since your studies of the older books and so forth, but I'm just asking generally or anyone else that has this experience, is it mostly inactive or DFd ones or is there just as equally number of people just walking away suddenly? Thanks guys for being so open and sharing!

Why Is Toasting Wrong? Why Can't You Stand For The National Anthem?...
by minimus inwhy can you stand for the pledge of allegiance?.
why is "whole" blood bad but "blood fractions" permissable?.
why is eating a bird on thanksgiving day a sin?.
-
mochamint22
I was always told- not researching for myself- that toasting was based on a superstition to scare away the demons. I don't know if that's true, it makes me want to research it now.
For the standing at the anthem, I never heard that you couldn't stand. I pretty much stood everytime to show respect but didn't put my hand on my heart. I must say, though, that I remember sitting a few times, I think it may have just been out of confusion. But I wanna say that "new light" revealed that you could now stand just don't put your hand on your heart.
Again, whatever the GB said was ok, we did, since they are the channel between us and Jah (so where does that leave jesus)
