as most of you know i am new to the world of the internet.
therefore i am new to the discussion board forum.
when i first entered simon's place, i did not fear to speak my mind.
Wendy,
I've always enjoyed reading your posts. You have never been afraid to be yourself on this forum, and it is so refreshing to see ones like you (and Es and a few others) not be afraid to show true warmth and compassion to some here who truly appreciate it. You are the kind of person that I would pick as a friend.
Kristen
lets assume that some time has now gone by since you made that final decision to stop associating with jws.
you are now your own person, the worlds your oyster, let the good times roll!.
still there seems to be a hole in your life, an emotional gap as it were, a feeling of loss that borders on depression.. whats happening, of course, is that despite your decision to bale out of wt ways, the old patterns of thinking are still hanging in there and influencing your life.
There’s a lot more to leaving the JW’s than whether our friends and family will still want us or not, I suspect that many ex’s find that they have only just put one foot on the road to emotional maturity when they finally make that decision to leave. But isn’t it a great journey to be on!
Yes, and yes! Great post Englishman.

today, april 20th, is the fourth anniversary of a very special day in my life.. the anniversary of my rebirth.. this rebirth was not a religious experience, but it was something totally pure, amazing and healing.. it had nothing at all to do with the society, or rather, of freeing myself from it.
it was however, a giant first step in that direction.. today is the fourth anniversary of the day i got letter that changed everything.
the words on the pages were alive, and magical: they released me from my old life and for the first time.
Es and Justin,
Todd,
I enjoyed absorbing your post and think you articulated that so well. I missed that particular strip, but know that Dilbert is so funny sometimes. I worked for huge corporation for many years and found Dilbert's humor so, so true. An evil catbert the HR director, what a hoot.
Thanks for sharing your insights,
Kristen
like a lot of others here, i gave higher education a miss when i left school (1980).
under the encouragement of the society i pioneered for three years instead!.
now i clean windows for a living.
Count me in! I was one who was under the impression that Armageddon would happen before I finished high school (it was sooo close you know, in 1990) and then given no direction whatsoever as what to do after graduation. Follow in the footsteps of the hoards of house cleaning pioneers?
It took me several years after that to even CONSIDER going to school–which was a very difficult thing to "rationalize" in the congregation I was in. And just catching up mentally with the rest of my peer group outside of the organization took a few years as well. Thankfully when I started fading away I started really thinking about my future. Realizing that I have a long time to work in front of me, I finally found a major that interested me and went for it. No, it's not too late if you really want it and can go for it.
I still feel like I'm ten years behind... but I'm sure as I keep growing that won't be an issue. So many more have lost so much more than I have. The organization only got 25 years out of me... well, not counting the coming-to-terms and carrying around the JW baggage for years afterward.
sad person that i am, i posted this yesterday, but the post seems to have self destructed....... anyway, if anyone posted to the other thread wants to re-post to this one it would be much appreciated.
alright, this is one of those what was your favourite questions:.
when you were a witness (or even if youre still reluctantly attached like me), did you have a favourite kingdom melody (why couldnt they just be called hymns by the way)?.

happy b-day, harmony!
who did you have beheaded?
it's obvious that's what birthdays are all about.
Oh now, this is a thread I MUST be part of! My birthday thread scrolled out of reach–but this is my month toooooo! I wish all of you fellow Aprileans the biggest HBD you've ever had! Isn't it great to be able to say it outloud and not feel guilty about it!

the human brain is a non-stop chattering machine.
it is constantly evaluating, making decisions and judgments.
there is not a human being alive that isn't an abject hypocrite nearly every day.

i'm a bookworm and would love to hear some of your recommendations.. besides the traditional coc, in search of christian freedom, etc.
books that help facilitate one's journey out, please feel free to share the titles you found helpful to your own growth after leaving the organization.. thanks a bunch!
Patio and Nothingman,
Thanks for sharing your recommendations! I have always enjoyed reading, and am especially interested in books that will help further my journey out of the organization. The Postman and author Alice Miller sound like the kind of stuff I'm looking for.
What do I recommend? To be honest, I've only read COC and Jehovah Lives in Brooklyn, and LOTS of personal experiences and information on the Web. I'm going to order In Search of Christian Freedom from the library and wanted to compile a list of others that I can check out too. After this semester I'll have more time to devote to finishing a book.
I do appreciate your recommendations very much!
