Freudian slip in this weeks WT study!

after speaking about the destruction of sodom and gomorrah, paragraph 6 says:.

"only lot and his daughters, who stuck close to him, survived".

Introducing myself

my name is russ, i'm 40 years old, from the uk, and i left the jws nearly 5 years ago.

i've been a member of the yuku board throughout that time, so there are probably some on here who know me already.

there seems to be more activity over here at the moment, so i thought i'd pop in and say hi.i was raised as a jw, started questioning it when i was 16, but there was no internet back then (well, no www anyway) so i got sucked right in and got baptized when i was 18. auxiliary pioneered on and off for a couple of years, then became a ministerial servant.

Glad to learn it is Satan who cured depression because I prayed Jah for decades and I got well soon after I stopped following his organization. I also found peace and a meaning to my life...no longer wasted time attempting to buy my way to the real life in paradise.

New french member / new website

i've been reading you for several months now and at last i decided to register !

i'm not sure if my post is in the good category so feel free to move it if it is not.... i'm french and i da'd in last november, losing my family by the way... i'm married and my wife is still in but our couple is still strong.. i still believe in the bible and i go from time to time in a baptist church.. i created a french website to expose the watchtower and its false teachings.

there is not a lot of websites like jwfacts in french so i tried to make it !.

Bienvenue vérité...je suis aussi francophone. Sorry for your lost family and friends, but it's good to hear your wife is still with you. My wife is still in and and after a rough patch we are back to normal because the love between us is real. Looking forward hearing more about you.

How many JWs really believe the end will come "soon"?

this topic has been on my mind lately.

i have been looking around at jws and wondering how many truly believe the end is as near as they are told.

from my personal experience, i know that my parents fully believe the end is imminent and may come any time now.

For the first time ever my wife said we should put our affairs in order as we are getting older...she now realizes we may die in this old system, something she never contemplated before.

Why don't some members of the congregations never slow down or get tired out?

my uncle passed away two years ago at the age of 83. he served as an elder from 1965 to the last day of his life.

even till the end of his life he was still reading the bible.. he was an elder for 48 years.

never missed a meeting,pioneered during the summer months ( took vacation weeks),pioneered after retiring at 65 years old, never went on real vacation, went to all summer conventions and assemblies ( traveling to new york,wisconsin, canada and california ).. he also conducted book studies, watchtower meetings, gave sunday public talks, assembly parts, elder meetings, had a weekly book study with his family,cleaned the kingdom hall, and donated money when the congregation was short money for the month.. everyone is zealous in the beginning but tire out sooner or later.

My mom is 81 and still pioneering and she invests all her time in the cult to fill the gap left by my dad's passing. She knows nothing else..she never had time for recreational activities, has no interest in arts and has no time to even visit or call her own children. When I last called her she said she thought I had died...so I said that I am always the one who calls her...she went on about the upcoming CO's visit and the one day assembly and how she's busy in service. I can't see many more of these die-hard witness after my mom's generation...

I have found out how to have a great round of golf

yesterday a golf friend had a great round of golf, he shot a 79.. normally his play is in the low 90's.

yesterday he was hitting the ball a mile down the fairways and straight, just killing the ball.. so i ask him after the round, what the hell got into you today.. he told me he had a fight with the wife, not a physical fight but a disagreement.. he saw the face of his wife in the ball each time he hit it.. i will have a great round of golf next week.

the old lady and i will have a hell of a disagreement before i play next week..

Magazine placements

this morning we opened our front door to find 5 magazines, 4 awakes and 1 watchtower left there.

someone must have been counselled about not placing enough literature.

we never heard them knock and we are not that deaf, at least we didn't think so.

I knew a sister who left magazines in the shopping mall washrooms. The caretakers called the hall to have this stopped because people were flushing the mags down the toilets, causing blockages and over spills...

Unity: the theme for the monthly TV program

there's been numerous discussions about the singing cart thing in this month's video.

i decided to watch at least a portion of the rest of the program though because sometimes things are said that are interesting to pick up on.

this one started off on the topic of unity, and, unbelievably, herd talked about brainwashing and how we like to have our brains cleaned.

Greeting people from other countries and the joy that it brings is not unique to international conventions of JW. I regularly attend seminars where people come from various parts of the world. Today I am in Korea where I met with people from 27 different countries and I am heading a task force with people from China, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Some of them speak very little English but we manage to work together. We hug and say goodbye after exchanging contact information so we can stay in touch until we meet again. JW believe they are the only ones to experience unity...let me tell you it isn't exclusive to the WT!
