Truthlover 123, we had such gatherings in our area but it's always organized by individuals and not the congregation. In fact the WT discourages large gatherings and lately I read something on this site to the effect to no longer link the congregation with events like "picnik" or "party". I guess the WT wants to stay clear of any liabilities and shift the accountability to individuals in case of an accident or other risks. The same would apply to daycare or community kitchen.

Jws don't really have "communities" or "functions" like churches do?
by nowawake14 ini've noticed how this religion is kind of narrow.
all they ever do is preach, study the watchtower, or their meeting or convention.
no other organized functions that i know of.

I quit my job at the helium factory; I was not going to be spoken to in that tone of voice...

Seems like everyone has to be a victim of some sort. Others make a career at exploiting the drama in their life. I was thinking of the Kardashians as an example who tweet about their mates cheating on them or about the terrible rash on their forearm, as if they're the only ones having eczema...then 10,000 followers tweet back that they feel their pain or how they support and love them. And it isn't just them. In my country billions of dollars are spent to repair "injustices" to people who's ancestors were mistreated at a time when authorities didn't know any better. Where does it stop? Based on today's standards I would have the perfect excuse to be a serial killer since my parents spanked me when I was a child...

Does anybody else still have an obsession about Saturday morning weather?
by Exelder ini am still enjoying the luxury of weekends to do whatever i want....but....out of habit i am still obsessed with looking at the weather for saturday mornings.
rain on a saturday morning was a very rare treat and we got the morning off, although as group leader, i still had to go to the group just in case somebody turned up.. does anybody else still watch the weekend forecast with interest?
(i am aware that this is probably a uk thing as we are obsessed with the weather ha ha).

In our family it was service rain or shine every Saturday morning. Growing up in Montreal winters were very cold and snowy so it wasn't unusual to go out even at minus 10 or 15 F. When our feet were frozen we went back to the car to warm up. Sometimes my dad left the car running all morning to keep it warm. We have been stuck in snow banks and had to push the car several times. Some of our territory was 3 story homes with exterior stairways and balconies that were icy and covered with snow...I can't count how many times I or my partners slid down on our asses. That's how you proved your were a good witness in our congregation. Today I live in a warmer area of Canada and I am retired so every day is a day off. I use to hate Sunday and Tuesday (meeting days) even more than Saturday...but now that's all in the past.

When you were an active JW, did you ever have dealings with a pyramid scheme?
by Tameria2001 ini'm not sure why this memory popped up, and i was wondering if any others, when they were still active jw had dealings with a pyramid scheme involving other witnesses in the organization?
at the time it was 1993, and my husband and i were still newlyweds.
once in a while, we would attend a neighboring congregation because that was where he grew up, and some of his family was still attending there at the time.

In our area there was Jewelway multilevel marketing and some of the elders were involed. I remember a sister that joined but her unbelieving husband threatened the brother to get her money returned.
I knew an ex-district overseer was into Melaleuca...

Giving fake address to elder
by Addison0998 inso i got married a few weeks ago, living a great life now with my husband, he was definitely the perfect guy for me :) but anyways, we are going to work on slowly fading, going to meetings once a week or every two weeks, and then in a few months move to a hall where nobody knows our families and the elders hardly know each other, and fade out a lot more.
but an elder asked for our address, which we didn’t feel comfortable giving him, because we don’t want any unexpected visits to “shepard” us, when we miss a few meetings, because they already text us when we miss 2 meetings in a row, which we had just gotten back from our honeymoon 🙄 so we “accidentally” gave him the wrong apartment number.
so if they ever come pokin around they will be lost, and if they call or text us we will just have an excuse for not replying.

In my case it was simple: I stopped going to the meetings. I didn't get a phonecall or a visit for a year...despite my wife continued meeting attendance. I would occasionally get the "so and so says hello" when my wife returned from the hall. Then two elders came to my door after they heard I was in a car accident (b.s excuse since it was a minor fender bender). I kept them at the door and didn't let them open their bibles. I told them I needed to be left alone and that I knew the way to the Kingdom Hall. That was it. Now we have moved to a new town, my wife goes to the meetings and the local elders have stayed away.

The Fading Loop Hole
by new boy inmy father in law (robert stillman) killed himself in 1993. after the "new light" came out in 1981 we could no longer have limited contact with dis-fellowedshipped persons.
after years of being shunned by his only family he blow his brains out with a 38 special.
at the time of his death, the only thing bob was doing that wasn’t in line with the society’s rules and regulations was smoking.

I agree with OTWO. I faded away 9 years ago and I moved 3 hours away from the old congregation. My wife and most of my family are in so I remain on the congregation's "radar". This means that I have to respect their rules and refrain from doing something reprehensible in their view. It forces me to hide things from my wife like sending or receiving birthday gifts to my disassociated daughter, or keeping my "apostate" opinion to myself. My wife often talks about the nice people at the Kingdom Hall, hoping that I take some interest in them, while I do everything in my power to stay away to avoid drawing interest from a "well-intentioned" elder who could feel compelled to help me back into the fold. As you can see, there's a cost to my freedom from the cult but I keep hoping that on day my family will realize how much better life can be out of the F.O.G.

Some flatearthers believe in the pacman effect where when reaching the edge of the earth you automatically reappear on the opposite side, just like when you played pacman on your old TV...this is not a joke!

Society Ditches Older Publications
by new boy init has been reported that many of the older publications are being dumped.
the watchtower bible and truck society have a long list of books, pamphlets and brochures that are no longer available either in print or in their data base on their web sight.
of course the reason is that this books have a lot of old information that is incorrect, false prophecies, flip flops and a lot of "new light" that became old light.

I guess I was ahead of the game when I trashed all my WT publications 9 years ago. My JW wife didn't put up a fight to save the volumes after I told her the old books were the reason I no longer believed in the WT's ever changing "truth".
