I know of at least 2 families that sold their home and all other posessions to move where the need is great in South America...since the end did not come soon enough, they had to come back home and start from scratch because they ran out of funds...pass go and do not collect $200....

Any Good 1975 Stories?
by Think About It indespite denial by the wts of any 1975 armageddon predictions zealous jw's did believe it, openly talked about it, and some even sold houses & belongings in anticipation of it.
do you have or know of any good 1975 stories?.
here's mine.........i was a freshman in college and had quit attending the kh back in hs.

I quit school before I finished HS...who needed an education since 1975 would mark the end...and soon after paradise. I got married at the end of 73...some of my wife's family didn't come to the wedding because they believed we were too close to the end to get married...instead we should have focused on preaching and saving lives...At that time I was living in Montreal and the city was preparing to host the 1976 Olympic Games...my dad would laugh and say that they wouldn't have time to complete building the Stadium...How ironic to see International Conventions in that stadium decades after 1975...since then my dad has passed away and my mom is in her late 70's still beliving that the end will come in her lifetime.

Of course she did...she would go to the mall on her way to the KH for the service arrangement to start her time...placed magazines in the washroom and return later for break...leave more mags...count the time while having her coffee...great exemple for the circuit especially since she raised two children in the truth despite having an unbelieving and difficult husband.

In our local mall an older sister would leave mags in the washroom...the mags would end up in the toilet, blocking the drain...the janitor asked the sister to stop leaving mags, but she wouldn't until he contacted the congregation elders begging them to tell the old bag to stop...

What would the WT do if anti shunning laws were passed?
by Aussie Oz inwhat would the wt do if say, a country or countries enacted a law that made shunnung illegal?.
punishable by time in prison or heavy fines?.
would they have the gall to 'obey god as ruler' rather than man, and actually continue the practice in defiance of the law even though they would incur the wrath of governments?
-
NVR2L8
My exact point Metatron,
They would say that they don't disfellowship members who associate with ex-JWs or disfellowshipped people...that the decision to shun is left to each individual. Then internally they would view the people who decided not to shun as disassociated members...just as they do with those who accept blood transfusions...they are no longer disfellowshipped...their decision to accept blood is viewed as a disassociation.

Today's Watchtower Lesson Really Bothered Me...
by dontplaceliterature ini was a hair away from telling my wife i never wanted to go to the kingdom hall again after today's watchtower.
the conductor mentioned something along the lines of..."if you think having to shun your disfellowshipped children is bad...you should read up on the israelites.
when one of their children was disobedient to the law, they had to take the before the judges so that they could be stoned to death...and guess who's job it was throw the first stone?".

Has Gambling Become A Conscience Issue Among JWs?
by FreeAtLast1914 inthe reason i ask is that i have a coupe of cousins who are still jws who have gone gambling in casinos with us.
i have a brother-in-law who openly brags about his "perfect" blackjack strategy he employs in vegas when he's in town.. i know that growing up as a jw, gambling of any kind was a dfing offense.. is my jw family simply more liberal than most, or has there been a subtle shift in this area since i've been out?.

When I was a MS I was given a lotto ticket with a meal deal at McD...I threw it in my car's glove compartment...when I found it again I checked the number on-line to find that I had won $50k! I did some research in the WT publications and found out accepting the prize money from a free ticket was the same as accepting stolen diamonds as a gift...both having been acquired from an activity God disapproves...I almost tore up the ticket. Then I realized that the WT allows us to accept blood fractions which are acquired from an activity God disapproves: BLOOD DONATION! So I claimed the prize and kept the whole thing undercover...my JW wife had no problem keeping the secret...but now I am out and I told my children about my good luck!

I agree with you Moshe...it happens to a lot of families...but there is always a "valid" reason in the eye of your family member to stop talking to you. With the JWs the shunning is unilateral...meaning that you cross the WT and your whole circle of friends and family turn on you. The worse thing is that they don't even know what was your transgression...they are just told that so and so is no longer a JW...and that is enough. The WT is right and you are wrong without the opportunity to debate or expose the facts. This is especially true for apostates who are mentally deseased without a medical diagnostic. Most JWs don't even know what claims are made by apostates...they decide to support the WT without knowing the facts. Proverbs says that someone who makes a decision before hearing all the evidence is a fool.
As far as being estranged to a child, I was for over 10 years...The first thing I did when I found out the truth about the truth is to contact that child and apologize for the pain I caused due to my stupidity. Today we see each other as often as possible...we are 600 km away.
