i've never found dualism - the idea that the mind and the brain are two different substances with the mind being "immaterial" or "non-material" - a valid manner in which to address consciousness or any mysteries relating to it.

to show the reasons why i think it's bad metaphysics i'll use analogous reasoning to make a case for my newly made up "mystic essence".. for hundreds of years scientists have studied plants and animals all across the world.

but they still can't explain where ecosystems come from.

The development of strong AI will shed some light upon this. Maybe there is something like consciousness waves. I like the panpsychism hypothesis. I'm not advocating the existence of souls or the Christian God. I dont think an individual can exist forever because even in our lifetime we change drastically. But I think to be possible to have a conscious existence without clinical death. And I think it's possible to retrieve consciousness of dead people. In this universe nothing lasts forever but nothing is forever lost. I really think we are in a kind of simulation. And I don't trash the possibility of this universe had been intentionally created.

I have no idea. We are not in the scientific realm anymore, we are talking about metaphysics.

I suppose a good start would be to ask you do you think the electrochemical reactions in our brains influence our thoughts? And do you think that, when we change the chemistry in the brain, it changes how we think (e.g. drinking coffee, alcohol, hallucinogens, etc).

The same could be said if you change the circuitry of a radio/TV receiver. Every change you do in it would alter the broadcasting and you could assume the device itself is broadcasting. This is called the "brain as an antenna" argument.

I think there's something beyond "matter and mind". My guess is something like the will proposed by Schopenhauer. I'm not a dualist neither an eternalist.

Cofty, that's the view of eliminative materialism. Materialism is divided in three views: reductionist, revisionist and eliminativist.

Materialism is a dead-end hypothesis. Because ultimately it must affirm the conscious mind simply not exist at all (eliminative materialism). But I think it's an absurd to deny the existence of consciousness. It certainly exists. Ironically the materialistic view it's very close to Buddhism.

I think every adult converted to JW cult is a Npd or have some temporary psychological disease.

Npd is a permanent psychiatric disease. It's something related to neural connections.

The diagnosis of Npd is almost useless to the person itself but extremely necessary to people living with a person who have a Npd. The only thing one can do to protect itself from people with npd is avoid them like the plague. If you cannot avoid them completely you must minimize the contact at least.
