Common JW phrases that aren't in the Bible
by biometrics ini'm interested to know common phrases jehovah's witnesses use, but don't actually apear in the bible (even the nwt).
especially phrases most jw's would assume are in the bible.
e.g.. "paradise earth".

Fantastic djeggnog!
The ipad3 (the new ipad) is looking great. I just don't have the resources to buy it right now. I need to wait until the fall. I also think the ios system will be stronger and probably be to ios version 6 by then.
I'm impressed with the keynote address today.
Now if Microsoft would just port Office to the thing it would be a slam dunk for traditional business owners that are familar with that software.

Theists - Please Explain This.......
by AK - Jeff inand please don't do so with the standard "i don't know the answer - but there surely must be one.
" or some other lame attempt to defend god/bible without a real explanation.. here goes:.
i find it incredibly interesting how hard the mind works to prevent rational thought when it suits it's purpose.

Dear djeggnog,
I think what you wrote is spot on. I have noticed that people using tablet computers are finding them more handy and useful than what they previously though they would. I would liken it to a mechanics tool box in which you can grab an adjustable wrench and and an interchangeable screwdriver to do most tasks at hand but the specialty tools are still there. In much the same way these tablet computers are great for many things but the specialty functions of a desktop or laptop are needed to get down into tasks that require more hardware or software performance.
I have decided to wait until fall of this year so that I can use a tablet computer on the next school year. I will purchase one then.
Speaking of flash. I know that flash is on it's way out but we seem to be in the transition period now. Even Microsofts Metro and Windows 8 will not cater to flash and will be using HTML5. This kind of reminds me when Apple took the first step in removing the floppy drives from their computers many years ago. People thought it was crazy but just look at the situ now. Floppies were a standard and now they're gone.
I honestly believe that mobile operating systems will become stronger and more resourceful over the next decade and will probably displace the majority of the old desktop operating systems.
I'm anxious to see how this pans out. I will make my switch this fall, but still keep my old laptop as backup for awhile.
I also noted that most people who have never used Apples products really seem to like the Ipad whereas before they would not have considered it due to faithfulness and familiarity with Linux or Microsoft products.
I think Android will improve and I'm guessing we will have two rivals competing in the "post pc" era, much like Microsoft and Apple compete in the pc era. However, I believe that the game will be more evenly matched.
It should be noted that I also tend to think that the first system to really integrate this new "way" of computing and take the lead, will probably go to the one that seeds itself into the corporate world. Apple seems to have the edge here at present. Ipads are being used by professionals much more than Android tablets in the business and professional sector.
On the other hand Apple's achilles heal tends to be lack of hardware customability, which Android can port to several manufacturers making their market much deeper to the variables that exist with users.
Thanks again for that information you posted.

Dear djeggnog,
It's late here and I would like to thank you for the input. I'll touch base and write up something on what you said tomorrow.
Thanks for the long post and details.

Transubstantiation?
by leavingwt indoes anyone here accept the doctrine of transubstantiation?
if so, please elaborate.
theology: the changing of the elements of the bread and wine, when they are consecrated in the eucharist, into the body and blood of christ (a doctrine of the roman catholic church).

As an Eastern Orthodox Christian I believe the bread and wine, are bread and wine, and the Actual body and blood of Christ. They are not symbolic.
One of the seven Holy Mysteries of which the Catholics call a Sacrament.

Excellent advice all,
Two days left before the new ipads come out. It may mean that the ipad 2 will be discounted much like the previous gen phones are from apple.
BTW...I think android is pretty cool but I don't think it is as solid as ios. I'm just wondering what Apple has done to push the envelope of user friendliness and features. Only Wednesday will tell.
Wouldn't it be great if tablets could do everything exactly like a laptop in regards to software. According to Mohrs law I think this will happen in the next 5 years or so.
Thanks

Thanks Snare and Racket,
I'm in uni as well. I'm looking forward to checking out the ipad 3 on Wednesday. I'm hoping I can log into my online classes and post there and get assignments. I use my laptop all the time but I find that what I mostly do can also be used on a tablet computer. It's the browser internet compatibility issue that has me stopped from pulling the trigger on buying one. In any event I'll keep my laptop for backup.
We'll see how this new ipad 3 will be.
Peace

Dear Jboth89,
You post reminded me of myself 7 years ago. I moved to Costa Rica by myself.
I've got some great experiences to tell you and perhaps it would help. I've been to Nicaragua but not Guatemala.
I hope you know some Spanish. If not you'll get by and learn on the go.
I think it is best to not tell anyone yet. I found I wanted to develop a new worldview before I told people, and I wanted to be strong in my beliefs outside the walls of the watchtower before revealing anything. I needed time alone to sort things out. You may need quiet time from religion for awhile.
Sidenote:
You may want to start a huge permanent fade where they will never find you. What I mean is you could tell them you will be going to the meetings (church services Jw), and then transfer your cards there. You could play this out as you're going to start in an area where the need is great etc. At any rate if you plan on moving back to your country (I'm assuming U.S.), then you can just leave your cards there at the Guatemala hall and never request them. Keep your cards information and hall information private. I did this and essentially my records are lost abroad forever.
If you need any advice on living in Central America I can help. PM'me if you need too.
Peace
Maksym
Edited to add: May God grant you mercy and guide you to better ways.

Dear MrsJones5,
Thanks for the input. I think the biggest worry for me is how the operating system handles the web, including the browser. I realize that these devices have a hard time doing flash videos but I think some other kinks need to be ironed out, like you mentioned.
Dear Baltar447,
I guess you are right in that the tablet runs about the same as a cheap laptop, but the laptop can do a whole lot more. However these pads seem to be really handy. I'm waiting for the Wednesday kickoff of the Apple event. I want to see what is up there sleeves for improvements.
