Questions on new understanding (FDS - GB)

some questions arise with the new understanding:.

was there a slave class between the 1st century and the 20th century?.

in w march 1, 2004, it was stated, that the slave could not be a single man, because "acording to jesus words" the slave had started his work in 1st century and would still be in action in 20th century.. was the slave in action in 1914?

I want to thank everyone for your contributions to this thread. Reading it makes me all the happier that I got the hell out of this execrable organization and has strengthened my resolve to never, ever set foot inside a meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses again for any reason whatsoever!

I feel bad for the people I have left behind. Some are family members while others were friends I loved deeply. But if they choose to accept any of this as “the truth,” then there is nothing I can do for them except hope they’ll come to their senses. The rope is tightening around their necks, but I am sure many will view this latest information as just another proof that Jehovah is leading them to Paradise.

While they may be deluded, that doesn’t mean that they should be absolved of all responsibility for their situation. Unlike twenty years ago when the Internet was a relatively new phenomenon, today TTATT is available to anyone who sincerely wants it. The information is available from any number of online sources. Grasping it means putting aside complacency and embracing courage and humility—qualities the leadership of the WTS does not have. Their followers remind me of those trapped in an abusive relationship who convince themselves things will get better if they stay. They won’t improve—more’s the pity. The day of reckoning for the WTS can’t come soon enough!

the bottom line on the response was they would not even send me a direct letter with answers, but chose to send the answer letter to my elders who read only portions of it to me...my elder dad of 30 plus years said he had never heard of that.

the elders told me not to share any of the info as it could hurt others faith...i said how the hell is that if this is the real truth about our bible and how it has changed the greek scriptures???

with the holidays amongsts us how did you feel the first time you celebrated the holidays?

the first time i felt like i was in north korea trying to slip pass the secret police.

Last year was the first time I celebrated either the American Thanksgiving or Christmas since 1973. I was living in Colorado then and insisted on preparing the Thanksgiving feast for my housemates and guests. I was in a bad economic plight at the time and felt that preparing the feast was the very least I could do to show my appreciation. I absolutely loved it! All the preparation was a real joy and I’m looking forward to doing the same this year.

Christmas was spent with those same friends, and wouldn’t you know it, that was a white Christmas. I helped with the decorations, some of the cooking, and even received some presents—something totally unexpected. It brought back to me the fact that the holidays are meant to celebrate love and there never should have been any objection to that. Compared to the cheerless existence of most Witnesses, a holiday celebration is absolutely fantastic.

Now I am living in Alabama, so there certainly won’t be a white Christmas this year. I have told my family that I will prepare the Thanksgiving feast and they are very excited about that prospect. Christmas is something I don’t have any plans for yet as that will depend on my financial situation, but if all goes well I should be able to give gifts to my nieces and nephews. I am making up my gift list and am hoping I will be able to get something for everyone I love both here as well as some I left behind in Colorado.

I understood the organization’s attitude toward the holidays and supported it for many years. But when I looked more deeply into the question and saw how pagan origins should never have been a reason for banning their observance and celebration, I realized that I needed an attitude adjustment. After all, the WTS has seen nothing wrong with keeping other “pagan” customs such as wearing wedding rings. So I have gone back to observing birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I still steer clear of patriotic holidays but Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are back in good graces with me once more and I feel all the better for that.

The results so far - three months remaining for the 2012 survey...

i mentioned recently about the 2012 jw survey, and how we are falling behind with the number of votes in comparison with last year.. you may remember that, in response to this situation, i uploaded the following video to youtube in an attempt to garner more votes.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wpcgclxqda.

you'll be pleased to know that, in the four days following the launch of this video, the survey received 76 new votes - boosting the total number from 936 to 1,012.. it's great to see that the video has had such a good response.

at the current rate (19 votes per day) we would surpass 2,700 votes by the end of the year - not a mind-blowing number but a great sample nonetheless.. after chatting with juan viejo2, we both decided it would be good to post an article on the website letting people know the results of the survey so far.. here is the link.... http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/the-time-left-is-reduced-your-2012-survey-needs-you-2.

I think it also might be good to ask respondents if they still share some beliefs with Jehovah’s Witnesses. I am one of those, but I also do not believe I am a “born again” Christian. There are many nuances that could be explored, but I wanted to suggest this one.

Thanks for sharing these findings, cedars. Some of the features that stand out to me are that 73% of serving elders have themselves faced a judicial committee and 50% have regrets about a decision they rendered while serving on a judicial committee. I don’t what, if any, correlation can be drawn between these two facts, but I would say that both of them damn the entire arrangement in my mind. I wonder how anyone who has faced a judicial committee could then serve on one. But then I remember the chairman of my judicial committee had himself been disfellowshipped in the past. Go figure.

Another finding of interest was that more than 90% of those DF’d/DA’d said they were happier now they were out and had no intention of ever returning. That is certainly my situation. But after meeting a former elder last week who is laboring to return after being out for nine years, I can’t help but wonder what his mental and emotional state is that he would willingly submit himself to WTS abuse again. In the end, this quote from Barbara Tuchman sums up my attitude toward the WTS and all its works:

“But once divinity of doctrine has been questioned there is no return to perfect faith.”
