The company which fired this man has taken a beating in the media. They relented yesterday and offered the man his job back. No word yet on whether he will return to work for them.

Reading this thread made me realize just how blessed I am. I lost my best friend to suicide while we were both Witnesses. I mourned for 25 years because I found little or no comfort in the WTS's attitude toward suicide and the suvivors. I seriously contemplated taking my own life after my friend died but pulled back thanks to the help and love from non-Witness friends. Similarly, it was a non-Witness friend who helped me to end my grief and start living my life as I should not as the WTS had told me.
Since making up my mind never to set foot in a kingdom hall again, I have seen my life gradually improve. Depression is no longer an issue. My physical health, though impaired by diabetes, has actually improved since I made my decision. I am walking my own spiritual path free from the burdens and guilt the WTS imposed and looking forward to my remaining years with contentment and happiness. Today I am whole, hale and hearty and the wounds I suffered in the cult are healing. While they may well leave behind scars, they won't be festering and bleeding as they once did and for that I am truly grateful. Matters might easily have gone the other way. That they have not is proof enough that the religion of the WTS is a toxin the human soul and spirit should avoid at all cost.

I really loved this poem, CoCo. It is so poignant and full of pathos. It reminded me of one of Emily Dickinson's poems which I will paste here. This is not to say yours is some shallow imitation, far from it. But I am saying that our reaction to loss reveals our humanity, and humanity is something that poets like you and Emily Dickinson illuminate so well.

A little update on my family
by sooner7nc ina few of you may remember that my wife had a kidney transplant early last year.
since then the kidney has been incredible, giving her a new lease on life.
it's really been good to see the light in her eyes that i had missed for quite a long time.. the counterpoint to this good news is the problems we have had with our son coltin.

Watchtower Society Fate?
by mind blown infrom what i'm seeing on other sites many are now coming out of the woodwork to file charges against the wts.. in all reality with the conti case payout, could the wts and individual congregations (also having to pay) really sustain these blows?
and if so how would this play out?
they're not as rich as rc religion.

I am hoping that we are seeing the deck beginning to slope. Even if that is the case, it may still take some time for the vessel to sink. If that happens what then? How many of the rank-and-file will choose to go down with the WTS rather than abandon ship? What will happen to all those traveling overseers, branch committee members and special pioneer types? Many of them have given their entire lives to the WTS and have nowhere to go should it go down. They have no retirement, no savings, no insurance, in short they have nothing to sustain themselves.
Many may choose to believe that the coming storm is the attack from Satan's hordes they've long been expecting, but what will they think if Jehovah does not come to the rescue and everything they've hoped for is laid waste?
All right, I'll admit I'm running way ahead and none of this may happen. The WTS may successfully face down this challenge in the same way it faced down and ultimately outlasted avowed enemies like Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. But what makes this fight different is the fact that the challenge is coming from within the organization rather than without. The feckless Governing Body won't be able to silence these critics or easily neutralize the negative publicity their court cases will create. The next few months and years will be very interesting.

As a matter of fact, Soldier77, the WTS has already altered the text of publications for the Watchtower Library CD-ROMs. Others have documented where the wording of articles that appeared in the bound volumes of The Watchtower and Awake! were subtlely altered in the electronic versions of those same pieces. No notation was ever made of the changes so if you're depending on the CD-ROMs for the original text, you might be mistaken in some cases.

The WTS has already stated that there will be some textual revisions made for the Online Library. So that means in some instances there will be wording in the electronic version of a text which does not appear in the original hard copy. As far as I'm concerned, this is just another way the organization is "covering its tracks". It doesn't want anyone to use its own writings against it, so it will revise the electronic selections to say what the organization wants people to believe has been its teaching on a point all along. Furthermore, it appears there is no intention of making material published before the year 2000 available in the electronic format. Again, the reason for that is self-evident.

I have really enjoyed this discussion and want to thank OldGenerationDude for his research and contributing his findings. The only thing I have to add is that I'm not surprised now that I'm out. After all, this is the same organization that insists the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem in 607 rather than 587 BC despite overwhelming proof to the contrary. So we shouldn't be shocked that it is wrong on the cross/stake question. And yes, it does matter because it speaks to the credibility of this religion. So I strongly disagree with oompa's assertions. The sign on the cross was not a small one. It had to be large enough for onlookers to read and contain the message which was written in three languages which used three different alphabets.
The real reason for the rejection of traditional holidays and issues like the cross and blood is because both J.F. Rutherford and his successor N.H. Knorr were determined to put their own stamps on the organization and divorce it from the cult of C.T. Russell that had developed. Their policies completely reshaped the religion and created a separation from traditional Christianity which suited the purposes of the leaders. Among other things it allowed them to gain the kind of control that only the popes had, a control their successors have no intention of relinquishing.
