When I was Cong Secretary (as mentioned by BluesBrother) the rule then (over 20 years ago) was to destroy Publisher Record Cards older than 8 years. That has changed. They now hold on to the most recent PRC indefinitely. By doing so, they can claim you as a "member" even after being inactive for many years should you do something that provokes them to want to disfellowship you.

Getting older is not for sissys. But this life is the only one I have to live, so looking to make the best of it. I do think that the near future (and that's really all I have left as there is not much of a distant future if you're my age) will be somewhat better if the Progressives are prevented from furthering their agenda for the next year and the GOP sweeps the House & Senate. Then we'll have a "status quo" where neither party can do much -- do much damage, that is. Things seem to run along much better when there is that balance or power and it takes real cooperation and diplomacy to change things. Sadly, usually in the matter of governing, doing nothing often seems better than anything our politicians actually do.

The Poor the Wealthy and the Middle Class
by Simon inthe poor spendthe middle-class savethe wealthy invest.
the unique circumstances of the lockdown and stimulus checks has highlighted these differences in stark ways.. on one hand, you have jumps in sales and valuation of companies like foot locker and nike, as people spend their "free" government money on sneakers.
they blow it on useless tat.

J Paul Getty once said (I only heard this from a long time ago) "Money doesn't buy happiness, maybe unhappiness."
Guess he died a very unhappy billionaire.
But, did you notice that he did NOT give all of his money away to charity? So, I think he decided he'd rather be rich and unhappy vs poor and whatever.

How embarrassing it must be to have him as a nations leader.
I recently saw a guy wearing a mask that said:

So true. Especially, I think, if you are a Veteran.

People who make a big deal about wealth never ask how happy people are.
Because being wealthy does not guarantee you happiness. But then, neither does being poor.
I recall a JW woman who divorced her very rich and successful JW hubby because their love had died so she could marry her "love child" or "soul mate" (another JW with whom she was infatuated) who was charming, witty and talented (but broke). As you would suspect, that infatuation didn't last all that long and she eventually divorced him too. She told a close friend that it had been much easier being miserable and rich than it was being miserable and poor.
Just saying.......

Everyone who was old enough to think in the late 1960's & early 1970's was well aware that the JW Leaders (I do not refer to CJ -- LOL) were preaching THE END was coming in 1975 (+/-). There was NO DOUBT about it. My parents were about to purchase the business where he had worked for years. They secured the loan and backed out because THE END was sooo close!
Dad retired still working for others and making them rich and is now dead. THE END (of his life) did indeed come! But still no New World!

The thing that stops most people is they fact that it takes twenty years or so for this to start showing significant gains.~ Jeff
What I came to understand is that the first million is the hardest to save, but it gets easier each time.
Thus I just gave up on the first million and have starting investing on the second million.
