i searched the indexes of jwn and found a number of older threads on the subject of class action lawsuits against the wtbts for a number of things such as: fraud, breach of contract, emotional duress, pain and suffering, etc.
most of the threads are fairly old.
does anyone know if any serious attempts at this have ever been made by a qualified lawyer and/or firm?

But as time goes on, I wonder if there are some people for whom it would be better not to know the real truth.
For those who have committed everything for many, many years.......why burst their bubble? Many such ones have found their happiness in WTS lifestyle. It has provided a healthy life choice compared to many others. It has given them a place to be needed, a goal, a network of associates, a place to feel secure. Few people have all that it takes to feel happy and contented in life. If it's a placebo, so what. Placebos work for over 50% of people in controlled tests. If you're in pain and a sugar pills fixes it, good. If you're still in pain, then you need something different. Why rock the boat for people who are not in pain?

interesting as we are watching on the tv in the uk about how new york is having some areas evacuted.
wonder who is praying for the wt building gets flooded out by storm surge?.
If it hits them hard and causes much damage, they are likely self-insured and will have to spend lots of $$ to make repairs (free labor, but materials cost $$) before they can cash in on the pending sale of all the NYC property. If they suffer such damage at their locations, the rest of NYC is in deep doo-doo.

have you ever wondered what goes on at an elder's meeting?
after a prayer, the presiding overseer will state what the purpose of the meeting is.
if it's a quarterly meeting, the elders will discuss the spirituality of the congregation, its spirit and any dangerous trends that may be observed.
There will be a bazillion refences to the "7/15/89 Watchtower says this...", "the Flock book on page 74 says this...", "the 2/15/2002 Letter to the Body of Elders says this..." But actually opening and reading the Bible is an extraordinarily rare occurrence.
Elders Meetings at Circuit Assemblies usually just cover money issues, but there were often training sessions to cover legal issues of how to best protect the organization from lawsuits while still giving them full control over issues.
VERY VERY TRUE.

i know some here have said they pretty much hated the elders.
did you personally feel the elders were abusive men?.
I won't pretend to understand a woman who puts her desire for reflected glory above her mate's happiness.
Sadly, I can think of many JW wives whose identity in the Org is the fact that they are WOE -- Wife Of Elder. This ranks right up there with having Pioneer Children. Think about it, what other accomplishments do they have? No career goals. Having little or no education, there are no "secular" goals. No real means of accomplishment for themselves in an Org that limits women in so many ways. So what is there?
1) Giving good comments at meetings (sisters almost always are better prepared than their hubby); 2) Pioneering or high hour pub; 3) Pioneer Kids; OR>>>>>>>>>>>Door #4): WIFE OF ELDER. Plus that way, most of them know EVERYTHING that is going on in the Cong or even Circuit.
notice how thankful we should be to "the slave"... he said that expression dozens of times in his recent visit, over and over and over ad nauseum.. .
can i barf now?.
"The Slave knows it's easy to get tired." -- Thus, to lighten the "burden" some months ago they eliminated one of the weeknight meetings (CBS).
BUT, when the CO comes to town, it's OK if we are burdened, tired, and subjected to the additional expense (time and money) to make it to TWO weeknight meetings. Does this make the CO a burden?
it is pretty obvious when some posters get most....animated?
it is always later in the day, cocktail hour, especially weekends.
but my question is this:.
Are you asking if women get bitchy during that time of the month and post more harshly?
A (smart) man would never ask such a question. (Why ask any question to which you already know the answer?)
i'm a former mts graduate, and it's a long story but i recently became inactive after realising it was all nonsense.
the problem is, i've noticed that my mts background makes it almost impossible for people to accept my new status as an "inactive" one.
people think that, given the amount of knowledge i have, there is surely no excuse for me to reach this preposterous decision.. a friend from my mts recently began emailing me to find out my reasons.
I'm treading quite carefully and with a degree of paranoia
It's not paranoia when they really are out to get ya!

when counseled not to pursue higher education because the end of this system will come before you get any benefit....why not ask:.
how long has this been true?.
the answer will be: "always!".
And the retort you are waiting to make is: "All those books and magazines contained Old Light and Expired Dates! We fed people emergency instructions for non-emergencies and the details have changed!"
URGENT instruction for NON-emergencies.
Shelf expiration dates.
I think most JWs are blinded until something affects THEM PERSONALLY. When something bad happens to others, well they should just get over it. But, when it strikes someone personally, something that really hurts, some serious injustice, then the blinders come off and they are able to think freely.
If that sounds like I am speaking negatively of those who ignore things when they are not personally affected -- sorry. But I admit to being one of them. It took being broadsided to startle me out of the daze.
