recently spoke to a 72 yr-old, who has been jw for around 2oyrs.. he was telling me how well he was doing in field-misery sorry ministry, how many return-visits he had and how he leaves the mags in old peoples homes, and "witnesses" to the pensioners there.. then he went on to tell me that jehovah had really blessed him financialy with a fantastic pension from his previous employers!!
the only problem being he took early retirement before he became a jw from the company.. does jehovah reward his people with financial wealth?.
if he does, i was robbed by my local newsagent when i had a paper round aged 14 !
I too spoke with an 'active' sister of similar age. I told her that i was no longer attending meetings, and much to my surprise and sorrow she replied simply that "It's too late for me to leave"
She is a truly lovely person with a very active mind. I have to say that I do admire the elderly ones that are so loyal. I found the meetings and FS physically tiring, how much more so must they, who are so old and frail.
i was at bethel with my now ex-husband in early 1982. at that time, they did a tb test as part of the physical when you started.
mine came out positive for exposure (though i did not and have never had tb), probably because i had worked as a receptionist in a hospital x-ray department.. the weird bit is that the bethel doctor insisted on giving me a gynacological exam.
as i was only 22 at the time, and butt-stupid, i went ahead and let him.
Of course there are doctors at bethel........Ummm well, unless they have seen the light....and left of course! (lol)
The June KM has an article which made a request for bethel applicants, the request was aimed at architects, doctors, dentists etc. Of course YOU mustn't get an education the apply though!
after sharing their husbands and fathers with the congregation pretty well every night and weekend during the year ... finally the pagan holidays promise a bit of family time for elders wives and children ... so what does the wts do?
organize an elders course, naturally!
wouldnt want these guys to have some family time, would we now?.

It's certainly true that the society puts families second and their own interests first. I wholly agree with your comments, and wish you well in the freedom which you have now.
as the unfortunate school-age children of jws worldwide, or at least in christendom, face up to two of what must certainly be the most dreaded days of the school year -- today and monday, i don't think it would be remiss to do pay them tribute -- the honor of a brief recognition of some sort, say by the raising of a glass, a prayer, a couple moments' reflection, whatever.. i refer to all those of the trembling knees, quivering lips, moistened eyes and hollow feelings in the pits of their little tummies as they loyally face up to the humiliation of standing aside from the masses of christmas celebrants among their school friends.
how they must agonize over dealing with the incessant questions of their mates about ``what are you going to do this christmas," ``what did santa bring you?
'' -- not to mention listening to the spirited banter of their school friends recounting how much fun they had and what they found under tree christmas morning, etc.
I think that the people responsible for putting these little ones through this..........are none other than the miserable guys in Crooklyn, who I'm certain have no children themselves.
last night we went to downtown seattle, to ride the annual holiday carousel.
(the rain stopped for that whole day, thankfully) almost my entire family came, except for our youngest son and his wife, who work evenings.
so there were 3 of our adult kids and their mates, seven grandkids, the father of one of our step granddaughters, who came from sweden for christmas, and princess' sister in law and husband who came from boston for the holidays........we jammed the elevators!!
Hey Mulan…..that is so nice! So romantic also…. I would really like one myself….it’s our first Xmas, and I intend to make it a good one! We’ve got the tree so it’s looking good!
Forgetmenot,
Yes, I too, am banking on no JW’s calling! Oh! the love…….just overwhelmes you doesn’t it!(lol)
I was thinking about how a couple of years ago I would be aghast at what I had just watched. I thought about how much trouble we would be in if anyone knew (mind raced to where would be hide them if any one came over)
Isn’t it just great, watching the Xmas films (that are usually most uplifting I might add!) without thinking how ‘pagan’ and erroneous they are? I am thoroughly enjoying leaving the ‘bad feeling’ about Xmas. Dwelling on the good things about it, is a real joy! I have bought a Xmas CD which the kids are delighted with….and myself I might add! “Rudolf the red nose rheindeer lalalala………la.”
i just remembered this yesterday.. a newly appointed m.s.
was assigned the bathroom detail at a circuit assembly in natick.. well, he naturally asssigned most of the bros to the mens rooms and the sis to the womens room.. well in the women's room they have those "special" items in case of emergencies and the little wax paper bags, i think.. now the trash bags were transparent, pretty much, and the sisters are taking care of throwing these used items in the bags so they could be carried out back to the compacter.
I know another brother who's wife told me that he used to 'study' his W/T (no doubt rather hastily) whilst sat on the loo. No wonder his answers were crap! (sorry couldn't resist it tee hee)
