How big a deal is the royal commission..? It seems to be not much...
by _Morpheus inmy understanding (very limited and maybe flawed) is that this commission has no teeth.
if thats true why would the org care?
send a few lawyers, go through the motions but in the end.... its a dog parking on a porch.

Hi_Morpheus....I'm a recent visitor here & would like to offer my thoughts. Does this RC have teeth? If we are to believe it's purpose is to investigate & recommend changes to the way institutions deal with child sexual abuse, then that in itself is a 'big bite' for victims & survivors. Although I can't say if there will be any criminal proceedings towards any one particular person or organisation, this whole process has been a healing process for me personally & I would imagine many thousands of others. Please excuse me if I sound like I'm giving a sermon...that may have something to do with my upbringing! Love this place & the way everyone shares their time & thoughts. -

The WT Lawyer seemed to be scrambling to prevent certain documents being released. However the RC deemed they were worthy of publication. He has given WT a few days to put together a reason why they shouldn't be made available.
'For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest, nor anything carefully concealed that will never become known and not come out in the open'.

Didn't the 'apostle' Paul make plenty of directive's without consulting the governing body in jerusalem? -

RC: an emotional trigger?

Good question sparrowdown. I am finding this experience liberating but yes, the memories can be quite haunting. My Mom become a witness in 1968 & so all our family suffered with 75 syndrome. Over the years I experienced a number of Judicial Committee's, 1 disfellowshipping, a reinstatement & then later disassociated myself when I could not answer the Regular Pioneer question which asked: 'Do you believe Jehovah's Organization is God's sole channel of communication on earth?' My ex-wife & mother of our child went through the same 'end of the world syndrome' & later committed suicide. I am sure many ex JW's know of friends & family that committed suicide due to the psychological abuse that we've all suffered. And that is another issue I would like them to account for. Psychological abuse & mental distress. Maybe we can start a 'class action' against the Organisation? I would love to employ the services of Angus Stewart to lead this. Looking forward to the remainder of this Royal Commission. -

Peter McClellan is saying the the Governing Body is responsible for the way processes are followed. WT Lawyer argues the point. His Honor puts him on notice! His Honor wants one of the GB to appear & mentions that Geoffry Jackson may be called!
