Regardless of the Vienna Convention---ratified by congress---that says the US must allow non US citizens to receive help from their home government. Let's cheer when US citizens overseas are blocked from US help because we violated this international agreement.
The penalty would have been carried out anyway. There is something to be said for dealing with irritating little international expectations and Federal law.

i don't know how many are aware of this scandal in the uk, but i'll try to explain the important details.. news of the world in the uk is included in the murdoch news corp with also encompasses fox news.. reporters were hacking private phone mails for years, following stars and politicians.
they also hacked widows of fallen soldiers.

I just heard an interesing interview. They were talking about this and discussed how Murdoch was looking to acquire-fully-Sky News. There was a great deal of concern because Murdoch as such deep tentacles in the US--way beyond Fox New and including the Wall Street Journal. They are aware of the lies that Fox News puts out as a matter of course. They were concerned about the FOXIFICATION of their air ways!

or at least that's what my super jw ex-roommate told me when i try to have an adult discussion w her about the importance of a higher education... according to her (a girl that never finished hs because it was not necessary) she has a better education than any college graduate because the jehovah has used the borg literatrash to teach her many many important things.... she says her knowledge of the "truth" is the equivalent of my 4 years of college education..... .

They love saying that. People love hearing it. It's much easier than attending college--or in this case--high school.
Edit: And you know what I REALLY hate about that, other than the fact it has no roots in reality, is that it makes followers believe they are prepared academically to discuss and judge complex subjects. In college, the answer isn't always in the book. You don't read a paragraph and reconstruct it to get the right answer! Sometimes you have to go beyond the book, or sometimes you have to read several paragraphs and layer your knowledge. At times you have to think critically because the answered is rarely spelled out and must be gleaned both from the words on the page and an accumulated knowledge. It is NOT like a college education. College forces a person to take in information and come to conclusions. The conclusions are not laid out for you to simply repeat. SOME things don't even have an answer. The best you can do is consider the material and state the possiblities. Where DO they get the idea they are getting a college education?
In school, the information becomes progressivly more difficult and you must grow. Read WT today and read WT again in a year--no progression, just the same old recycled information. In school, sometimes the material contradicts itself forcing the student to look deeper and weigh the options. In the WT it's simply new light, no need to look further, we already answered it.
GOD someone smack some sense into these people.

My friend took her children to visit grandma. One of the dogs ran out and knocked the toddler over---held her down with a paw and bit her face. She needed stitches. Dead dog, right? NOPE. Grandma was concerned cuz the dog was pregnant and she didn't want to hurt the puppies. She watched this beast attack her baby granddaughter unprovoked. If my friend hadn't been able to yank the animal off her, it could have killed her. This was a two-year-old. The dog had the puppies--was it time to kill it now? No. That was all ancient history and we should all forget about it. Some people are unbalanced that way.

The majority of pit bulls I've met are great dogs. Sometimes great dogs have assholes as owners. The problem with dogs like this is when they become aggressive they are deadly. My mother was bit, unprovoked, by a pit bull. It bit right through the heel of her shoe and into her foot--not a minor wound for a diabetic. All she did was walk up to someone's door with a friend (she was not a witness, it was a friend of a friend). She was upset and shaking and sat in the car. She asked for a glass of water and one of the children brought it to her, and then announced in her twangy little voice "My mama said you can't keep that glass. You got to give it back." My mom told the child to tell mama that she would take her whole house if she wanted.
Asshole owners, and at least in this case, an aggressive dog.

my cousin( who was disfellowshipped many years ago) told me that he cannot speak to or come over to his grandfather's any longer.. he would stop by every month or so just to see his grandfather and grandmother.
they are both in their 80's and not in the best of health.. my uncle who is still serving as an elder would talk to his grandson only when his grandson would visit his house.
well,someone found out and snitched on my uncle.

Sooner, I was responding to a post by Beks. We had a couple back and forth regarding Rush Limbaugh. Rush was saying liberals didn't care that a child was murdered, and I made that comment.

i have a jw nephew in another state who was at very the top of his high school senior class this year.
because of this, my sister (an elder's wife) had planned and sent out invitations to his "graduation party" which would be held at a community center with all the bells and whistles.
i actually bought plane tickets for my wife and i to attend this party immediately after receiving the invitation in the mail.
After years of accomplishement, he can't even celebrate it because he's a normal teenage boy. I get that he shouldn't have lied to his dad about the car--although he certainly didn't have a lot of options. But now, not only do his achievements mean nothing they are trying to load him up with some heavy shame baggage. Encourage him to go to college. He's too good for them
