  do you mean Rodney King? Those riots happened in the 90's in LA. Videos of Rodney King's beating by police were showed repeatedly on television, so when the cops got off in court, the riots started. My friend's daughter was a public health nurse in LA at the time, and had to go to those communities and they really worried about her. She did her job anyway, but that one guy got beat in the head with a fire extinguisher. It was really ugly. I don't know if that changes anything, but it wasn't all that long ago.

  This kind of made me giggle. These are a people that believe in magic. The white missionaries come along with magical tales and magical healings. They have a mystique about them---unusual eyes, hair and skin. The language barrier is huge. They put on silent sketches. Some are healed. So they are building a church. They cannot read. They have only heard the fun and sugary version of the bible. I'm pretty sure the missionaries didn't concentrate on the baby killing, mass masacres, stonings etc. So they tell them a touchy feely story, that these people cannot research, and the people fall down and worship the new god. This is Chrisitianity? I don't believe so. I believe they have simply added another facet to their well established nature worship.

  Cannibalism is in their history, but it's not a present practice. I'd like to know more about that lost generation. Why the assumption that they were eaten? I realize it could have happened, the history is there, but it certainly adds to the drama for the American church goer. Another conclusion, that these people still live in a fairly primitive manner, far from doctors, and an epidemic of childhood disease could impact their population, is not nearly as much fun.

  I may put this on my list of things to research. I'm not buying the miracle theory. I don't think the other possiblities were explored.

  Unbelievable! Two prayers and encouraging words in the last two days

  on friday morning i got a phone call from someone who was interested in buying a utility trailer i had for sale.

  the man came over and looked at it and ended up buying it.

  i invited him inside our home to fill out the paper work.

  Nice ADD. When I left the org, I really missed the community, but I didn't believe in a god anymore. Still I went to a Unitarian Universalist church where it's okay to doubt or not believe. The people have been amazing and open. No judgement, just kindness. I've seen them be there for each other---even though they all have vastly different beliefs.

  The WT lied to us and made us leery of people on the outside. They told us that everyone believing the exact same things is the only way to unity. Isn't it nice to learn how deep that lie ran?

  Told my Parents about me joining the Military.

  so, i'm back, and many of you wanted me to post the unfolding drama that is my life at the moment.. last week i came out and told my father that i was in the navy, and was going to be trying out for aviation search air rescue.

  it's an extensive rate, and one that has a 40% failure rate among those who qualify.

  so needless to say, i do nothing but run and swim.. anyways, the reaction was what i expected.

  Lucky! You qualified for SEAL training. Impressive! You handled your family great. JW's like to blame the victim of shunning and claim it was YOUR choice, but they are the ones turning their backs on their own blood. I appreciate what you are doing. I don't have to agree with all of the policies of my country to truly appreciate people like you. So Thank You.

  I have a nephew who is a Navy Seal. Even as a teenager he was so fit and dedicated to martial arts it was unbelievable. You are truly a rare breed.

  recent events on this board have got me thinking, which is no small feat.

  christians are arguing more with each other than with atheists.. christians used to be sure of what they believed solid in their faith and certain of its foundation cornerstone and what he was called.

  only non-believers cast doubt and were crushed under a mountain of bible passages that were heaped upon them.

  NewChapter, it is not as simple as "Liar, Lunatic or Lord?" Please name any choices that don't fall under the choices I have given.

  If there really is a voice, but it is not "The Lord," then number 2. still applies. If aliens are supplying the voice, then AGuest is wrong.

  Okay, okay. Let's seeeeee.

  Perhaps fillings in cavities can pick up radio transmissions making one believe they are hearing messages.

  I heard that some toilets make funny sounds and people mistake it for talking.

  My brother talks to himself incessantly, so I find myself hearing and responding--but it wasn't meant for me.

  Some people, like me, have sleep paralysis, and the experience can feel very real. Some believe they have contacted aliens in this state, others angels and demons.

  None of this applies to Shelby, I'm just discussing it as a hypothetical for academic reasons.

  i have to cover my ass on this one by saying that i'm not saying for anyone to actually do this *wink* *wink*.

  i wonder what the effect would be if a current apostate member who has a key to their hall and were to go into their hall, late at night, when nobody would be there.

  ridiculous misogyny and mass murder by a petty little god are two reasons for me.

  Science, history, common sense, slavery, rape, murder, skewed sense of judgement, coherence. If the bible is such a golden and perfect book, why don't all believers in it agree?? If this god is so wonderful and wise, such a great COMMUNICATOR---THE WORD--why can't he communicate a simple message that all can understand?

  Oracles of old prophesied with ambiguous language. There is a war--well a kingdom will fall! Er, which one? Believers will look for evidence that suppports their beliefs and dismiss evidence that does not. I used to do this. I have seen the light.

  I loved how that guy in the video pointed out that bible god was concerned with coveting but not slavery. I would say that slavery is the epitomy of covetousness, but that would only encourage debate. Sometimes it really bothers me that people who claim love also love a hateful vengeful bible character. But I used to be that way. Leaving the org freed me from that, and I often wonder why others weren't also freed. But I'm learning to let it be. But mostly not.

  I sent those cthulu videos to my brother who has always been an atheist. I told him that ex-smokers are much more intense than non-smokers, and I now see that ex-believers are much more intense than non-believers.

  Picking up sticks on the sabbath carried the same penalty as murder. Raping a virgin got you a fine. Cursing god's name got you killed, but you were fine if you didn't beat your slave beyone 40 strokes. Here are the words of a kind and loving Jesus. PEACE!

  The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)

  And Dear Sweet Faithful Timothy was admonished to teach these glorious truths:

  Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)
