Have you ever noticed that libs are constantly telling you how smart they are
??? I haven't seen anyone brag about their brains here. Where does that come from?

minnesota rep. michele bachmann won a test vote of iowans on saturday, a show of strength five months before the state's caucuses kick off the gop presidential nominating season.. the result is the first indication of what iowans think of the field of republicans competing for the chance to challenge president barack obama next fall.
but it's hardly predictive of who will win the winter iowa contest, much less the party nod or the white house.. well... there goes the neighborhood....

Frosty, I really do have a good sense of humor. I try not to be overly sensitive. I can't always explain what about things crosses a line for me, but the bachmann pics felt very wrong. Personally, I could have gone a llifetime without the Weiner photos---and my opinion on it was I did not care. Nothing was illegal. It was embarrassing. He didn't hire a hooker or pay off a mistress and break campaign laws. But it is what it is, and I hope he comes back.
HOWEVER--an innocent pic of a woman eating a hotdog is a bit different than the intentional photos Weiner took and sent in digital format. We really didn't need to read anything into it---we all understood what it was. Bachmann wasn't inviting this---Weiner was, and indeed, got a kick out of it before the explosion.

Hey DF, some of that it interesting---although abortions were never paid for with tax dollars---not federal tax dollars anyway. And even if they were, it's kind of comical to think it makes any dent at all.
Spreading the risk is a great idea, and I thought Obama's plan addressed this. PEC's are the big thing for many of us. But can we require insurance companies to cover PEC's without the mandate? Many people would just not buy until they were sick, so they have a point.
Health care costs are outrageous, and insurance companies do what they can to negotiate the costs---but then our costs are the cost for the premiums on top of our co pays. It's very frustrating.
Then we have the problem of those that can't afford high insurance premiums. What do we do about them? Republicans are hot to cut Medicaid funds, and I have a friend who is disabled in NC. Their democratic governor is trying to do what she can, but keeps getting overridden. My friend was on her way to an appointment and was abruptly told the clinic was closed. She is dependent on Medicaid because she didn't work enough before becoming disabled to qualify for much SS or Medicare.
Why do they use this problem to throw their social agenda, abortion, into the mix? It's a non issue in this context.

Beks, I'm just saying it is wrong for them to do it to the dems, and it is wrong for us to do it to them. You know I think Bachmann is a loon---but if we don't hold to our standards, it's a free for all. Trust me, attack Michelle---she is worthy of it. The fact that she is also a woman is just inconsequential to me.

First---I don't understand the hemp lover reference. Second, there was nothing emotional in my argument. I asked a direct question. Can you, without trashing other options on the table, suggest some solutions to the health care crisis.
You--attacked me personally with some strange assumptions about broken glass. You attacked Obama's health care reform. You alluded to some mythical options about medical reform, but since you don't actually list them, I assume it's just a feeling you have that they are out there and you don't know what they are.
You are always good for a giggle.

Glander agrees with: This election is gearing up to be one nasty hateful dirt-slinging race. IMO, libs are the most vulgar, sexist, two-faced bunch of hypocritic hate-mongers there are. And since the main-stream media political celebrity hounds lean that way, it's going to be tough for some of you to dig through the crap for real honest-to-gosh info on ALL the candidates.
And then says: Great posts, I don't know where you get your self control but you are going to need it if you continue to engage these hypocrits for the next year or so! Of course, you will never get through to them with any intelligent discussion. This thread, like many others, is really a great platform for them to reveal the kind of people they are. Keep throwing chum in the water and they can't resist letting their true character show through.
You are so funny Glander. Do you have any self awareness at all? So why don't you tell me---Does GREGOR have any solutions in mind to address our health care crisis in this country? Try to resist just trashing other options already on the table and come up with something positive.

Sorry Darth, but the discussion was derailed by the pic. I did ask conservatives to talk about a workable solution to the health care crisis. It was the eighth time I asked, but have never got an answer. I know what they DON'T like about Obama's reform, but I don't know what solution they like better. Eight times.
Is the ninth time a charm? CONSERVATIVES---can you share with us your workable solution to the health care crisis???? Are you concerned? Do you have a plan? Prove you are more than just naysayers. Is this problem too big for conservative values to handle? We know you don't like socialized medicine. We know you don't like the Republican plan that Obama implemented. Add something to the discussion so we can benefit from your ideas. Or else, just admit that you really don't care about the plight of millions of Americans and we will stop playing this game.
Number NINE. Do I get an answer?

LOL
But I also remember that a**hole Nugent saying he would make Hillary suck on his machine gun. I must be consistent. Pissed me off then, and pisses me off now.

It is sexist. It invalidates a female politician. Pics like this of men aren't used in political discussions. She has strong views that are worth arguing, but there is no need to throw this in. I don't have to admit it is funny. Stop asking me to do so.
I know this sounds truly uptight---but the context has a lot to do with it. As a woman who had a bit of power at work, I had to deal with this type of attitude as an undercurrent to everything I did. I'm tired of it. It's not funny. This woman is running for president of the US. It's inappropriate. It's like saying, yes you aspire to be the most powerful person in the country, maybe the world, but I can still reduce you to a blow job joke and put you back in your place.

No George, I don't have to admit that. For that matter, judging from what I know about her, she was probably absolutely oblivious to how that pic would look. You know I've read your posts. I know you tend to objectify women---but I don't know if you are aware of how often. That's fine if it makes you happy. Just don't assume that everyone does so, OR that women somehow invite such nonsense by simply eating a hotdog in public.
It's absolutely juvenile. The problem is your giggling completely invalidates her. I certainly don't want to invalidate her because I think she is dangerous.
