She didn't do mostly good. She stood in the way of better being done. And she left a legacy----people who will follow her ways even though she has died. So that suffering will be perpetuated, and the things that really can be improved will remain unaddressed. She didn't fight poverty. Not at all. She simply accepted it and dabbed some brows. If she had just stepped aside, better options could have been applied. Yet she was all about the suffering.

Until it's too late. Over and over. So fear mongering! Shame on him. Don't believe everything, no necessary, but hurry back before you get annihilated. Remember the genocide in Noah's day! Hurry, hurry. Onto the ark.
Eeeks. You really were controlled.

I was actually quite sad to learn that MT might not be what everybody thought she was.
Me too. Although I don't think she did mostly good. I think she stood in the way of better solutions.

So what? (I actually know that anyway.)
Not a big deal, but you mentioned N. America, and I noticed that you often blame cultural differences for misunderstandings. That can be true, of course, but Snare is from the UK. I just pointed it out so that it would not be understood that only us N. Americans would ever take issue with certain things.
I just wanted to clarify. I don't think I need to add any more to this.

That argument is allmost so circular it become a point!
Well it certainly elevates a disagreement to biblical proportions. It's used a lot. There is nothing wrong with my heart. I simply choose to hurt for those that I believe were hurt by a woman who was misrepresented to the world. Now how does someone come to the conclusion that I don't care, or I'm motivated by hate, or I have a problem with my heart? My heart is fine. I can't hurt MT. But she leaves a legacy of suffering that vulnerable people must still endure. And that bothers me. A lot. Does that make my heart wrong?
I think it is a veiled way of saying if I had a good heart, I would totally agree with a person. It's quite personal, which is what you have when there is no defense. I used to use this reasoning all the time when I was a JW. They don't accept the 'truth' cuz they don't have the right heart condition. I think it is difficult for some to accept that when people disagree, it's not a character issue.

I LOVED I Dream of Jeannie. I wasn't big into Dallas, but I remember I was on a church retreat in the fall of 1980 (I remember this, because the retreat was called, Fall 80, LOL) and they stopped everything to announce who had shot JR!

What piece of evidence has contributed most to your world view?
by snare&racket in.
for me it has to be radio-dating, the age of everything.
it contradicts so many belief systems and also gives the universe's chemistry set the means to do so many 'experiments' with varying results.. with so much time, so much is possible....

So? I think that is a pretty big SO. That aside. She not only was not a doctor, she intervened to prevent medical care for those that could have been saved. How much medical care could have been provided is she used the donations for what they were intended? I guess we will never know. There is a difference between no being able to heal everyone, and preventing them from getting effective medical treatment.
She was a leader. She pushed the birth control issue, even though she saw how people struggled in extreme poverty, how children went hungry, got sick and died. She provided a cot and smile, and stood between the poor and suffering and real help.

BOTR---it really isn't Believers vs Atheists, and you see this. It really boils down to a certain kind of believer vs --------- I could say atheists, but I also think anyone that does not believe as they do. And since these are the most vocal, it gets painted this way.
I have been trying to be more careful in how I address this, and I fail a lot, but there is are big differences between those that still believe. I respect you and your perspective. You have faith, and that makes you happy. But on the other hand, you don't try to contort and force everything to fit in that ideology. You don't try to co-opt science, and love, and charity and make it as though that is only the realm of faith and a god, and those expressing such get it from the god whether they acknowledge it or not.
I did start a thread where I asked other kinds of believers to come share. The conversation was more stimulating, but too sparse. I look forward to more discussions with different types of believers. They have very valid things to say, and interesting perspectives, and we just don't hear enough from them.
