No, Darlin'. I don't do things like that. Play nice.

Faith... and Trust: The Same Things?
by AGuest inin a discussion with some other dear ones, the question was asked as to what such ones put their faith in.
in response to one comment that"one can't function without faith," another disagreed, stating ones can, that "many do so every day... the ones who have trust" (in things like the sun rising in the east versus the west).
that trust extended to "faith" based "on nature and the natural order of things.

How does the WT feel about dating methods?
by Christ Alone ini'm talking about dating methods that scientists use such as carbon 14, potassium-argon, rehydoxylation dating, etc.... .
i know that many christian fundamentalist groups speak of how false early dates can be reached by many of these dating systems.
but i was wondering how much the wt rejects them.

LOL, Blondie. When I first saw the thread title, that exactly where I thought he was going---until I thought about it a sec.

I am currently reading " The GOD delusion" by Richard Dawkins and would appreciate comments from those who have read it,pro &con.
by smiddy ini`m only halfway through chapter 4 and enjoying what i have read so far .so why am i asking for peoples comments now ?
the reason i have is this : i wish i had done something like this when i first was approached by the witnesses ,i beleive i would have been more informed to make some enlightened decisisions that would eventually shape my future .. whereas not doing so i spent the next 33 years a slave of the watchtower , and not just me but my wife and children , not that i`m suggesting i would be a slave of richard dawkins , but i can weigh up the pros and cons as i progress through his book ,then hopefully i can draw the right conclusions , if their are any.. smiddy.

The suggestion that you should read his book and try to disprove it as you go is ridiculous.
LOL---well that is part of what critical thinking is. I guess encouraging someone to use critical thinking is ridiculous? Interesting.

The challenge I put forth was on another thread. Your friends came out and the whole thing got sidetracked, which I believe was the purpose. You lie about me, and then claim your lord knows about it, which must make your lord a liar. Every other post to me you call me dishonest. You do as you wish. I was going to find the thread where I put forth the challenge, that turned into a bit of a freak show, but then I realized, for today, I don't want to deal with someone that slanders and wages false accusations. That's you. You do that. All the time. So the conversation is no longer worth it. It will only be full of personal attacks anyway.

So calling me a liar is 'the truth'? Do you know what I think it really is? I think it is a diversion. Smoke and mirrors. When I respectfully challenged you, you came out and slandered me. People get riled up and it turns into a circus. Then you sneak away, leaving the challenge unanswered. I suspect your friends, at this point, will jump to your aid, and the show will begin. And they will defend your innocence and will try to twist what has happened here to fit into their view of who they think you really are and make it okay. In other words, they may feel the need to get angry at me for calling you out for slandering me, because they don't believe that you could lie. Or perhaps not. I'm just going on past patterns.
Slandering people is not nice, righteous, or honest. You can twist it anyway you like. You can throw up shiny balls and increase your verbosity to try and muddy the issue. But it will change nothing. You slander.

Smiddy, I'm not sure exactly what you are worried about. Do you think you may be misled? I haven't finished the book, but it's not like a JW study. Use your critical thinking skills. Try to prove everything he says wrong. Be open to other possiblities---truly open---so that you aren't accepting things because of a bias.
I happen to agree with what I've read so far, and he does make me think. Only critical thinking can really protect you though, if you are worried.
Dawkins won't financially benefit from you agreeing with him. (other than the occasional book you may buy but it's not a lifetime committment), and there are no rules attached to agreeing with him, and no penalty to not agree with him. He is not holding eternity in his hands---in other words---he has no leverage. I don't think you need to worry, but critical thinking is always good.

*jaw drops at this sentence formation*
I never said they had a widespread reading comprehension problem. I said that they didn't, (have a problem) and challenged that notion. Exactly how was that unclear? You said, "you don't disagree that higher education is frowned on though. OR that the reading comprehension is just not there."
I never said the reading comprehension was not there. If I did, find it. I actually took issue with that statement. It was YOU who linked the higher education statement with the reading comprehension statement, so I expounded on higher education, and pointed out that the second part of your comment, that I didn't disagree was completely wrong, and opposite of what I said.
In fact, I even asked how many years of a college education was necessary to develop reading comprehension skills. Then I answered---which was NONE. Then I even asked, "got it?" Apparently you didn't. How much college education do you have?
