  the victims are the children, of course.. in 1999 unicef (the united nations children's fund) conducted a survey in iraq to determine the effect of sanctions on iraq, imposed by the united nations.. what had sanctions done?the surveys reveal that in the south and center of iraq -- home to 85 per cent of the country's population -- under-5 mortality more than doubled from 56 deaths per 1000 live births (1984-1989) to 131 deaths per 1000 live births (1994-1999).

  likewise infant mortality -- defined as the death of children in their first year -- increased from 47 per 1000 live births to 108 per 1000 live births within the same time frame.

  the surveys indicate a maternal mortality ratio in the south and center of 294 deaths per 100,000 live births over the ten-year period 1989 to 1999. .

  Interesting information Seven. I know our peace loving friends on this board won't believe anything but I believe all this has happened.

  Daddy Bush should not have stopped during the Gulf War. Baby Bush won't. And I'll look forward to his chimp expression of content when Bagdad falls. Many of the Iraqi troops are lining up to surrender already.

  A message needs to be sent, to the terrorists of the world.

  Are we the good guys here? I think we're all we have. We will have to do. What happens if we do nothing here? Nothing?? Of course not. If we backed away now (and we won't) Saddems reign of terror would only get worse.

  I hope Simon, Charlie and others are right about one thing. I hope that Saddem does not have any chemical or biological weapons. Because if he does, he will release them.

  judging by bush's recent comments and the recommendation that the un inspectors leave iraq, it looks like the war will be starting any day now.. i wonder if bush intentionally timed it so that things would be starting on st. patricks day the day that commemorates the saint who drove the snakes from ireland.

  COMF I agree that while the war in Iraq may end quickly the war on terror will continue, most likely for generations to come. I didn't mean to suggest that it was going to be peace and security from here on out. Hey I've heard that expression used somewhere before someplace?????

  My waterfall

  i sat there today and ate lunch by myself.

  Jerry you know me too well. I have dove there a few times. The water is just about 25 feet deep at the deepest. It's fairly clear during the spring and summer months. To get to the dive spot it requires wading across the top of the falls and doing a giant step. Only about an 18 foot drop, so it's not bad. We leave a line by the far shore and haul our gear back up that way. Can't climb the bank with the gear.

  There are many steelhead and salmon perched at the bottom of the falls to watch. They swim up on the side closest to the camera. Real fun to watch them power up that thing. You can get behind the falls in several areas. Large overhang under there to swim under. Bring your gear up, I'll show you some scary places to dive. Not unsafe, just scary

  president bush will appear on tv tonight, and give saddam one last chance.

  he can save his country from war, and also save his life, if he leaves iraq.. he will be given 48 hours, or suffer the consequences.

  if he really cares for his family, his people, his life, he will leave.

  This is a done deal my friends. Iraq is going to be bombed and invaded shortly.

  So burn your flags, spit on our kids. Start the impeach Bush proceedings. It is still going to happen. Even Ted Kennedy will be backing Bush as soon as the first plane takes off. Later the left will complain and bitch but during this war they will be united with Bush.

  I do hate this stuff. But sometimes this type of thing has to happen.

  For evil to triumph it only takes good men to do nothing.

  I've felt that asking questions is one of the best ways to get friends or family members to understand. For example you can ask your son "what did Christ say is the identifying charaterisic of his followers". Of course the answer would be "By the love shown among the brothers". Then a little comment such as "I have troulbe seeing that all too often.
