I've had it with the current topic line and since I see some things done here that upset me I guess I don't need to hang around any longer.

i've just seen the al-jazeera footage.
its truly shocking.
there were about 6-7 us soldiers.
The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, work, or other designs of any kind placed upon it.
This is how most Americans feel about someone like Charlie posting a picture of a peace symbol on the flag. It's upsetting to us. I don't think it makes us flag worshippers, but it shows we do have some respect for the flag and the country we are in. It also means we appreciate the kids that are laying their lives on the line.
It shows gross desrespect to alter or deface the flag in any manner. Most americans know this.
Everyone here knows this. That flag was posted for the shock effect value.
Then of course we have the yellow ribbon. Simon is upset with us posting the yellow ribbon. Yet he can't see a problem of a defaced American flag.
It's getting pretty lousy around here these days. Makes me sick to my stomach and I wonder why I bother with this website.

for anyone who knows me, i have always been a very strong support for women's right to do as they please in life, but today we had a very interesting discussion about this issue>.
this is to me one area where i wonder is it really the best thing to do, not so much because of how we in the west perhaps view women in positions and power, but how women are often times viewed by those that we maybe at war with.
culturally as men we have been conditioned to protect the woman- in fact in almost all cultures that i can think of that basic mindset is held by most men i would dare say-.
I don't see women working out in ground troops ever. Too many complications all the way around.
I recall a female helicoptor pilot being shot down in the Gulf War. She was taken prisoner along with her crew. She had two broken arms. The prisoners were lashed back to back, one of her crew, a male, was lashed to her back. An Iraqi soldier tore open her shirt and began to fondle her breasts. Her male crewman was going nuts, wanting to defend her. He was going to lose his life over this and she knew it. She told him to stand down as this was nothing worse than a breast exam. The crew was recovered eventually.
I do not see the logic in having ground troops that engage in hand to hand combat, ever. Unless a woman can pass the same exact tests as a man does, then forget it. I feel exactly the same way about street cop. So far most police departments have seperate tests for female candidates. Make it the same and I'll feel differently.
Can females be pilots of fighter planes? In my book yes. As long as everything is equal let them be a part.
I would never support a draft for women with the intention of them being in combat. Never. Let the invidual decide, and then let them measure up.
my heart goes out to every child who has a parent fighting in this war, be they american, british, aussie or iraqi- especially the ones too young to realize exactly where dad or mom is at.
they just know that everyone is so upset and the news is talking about and showing pictures of soldiers who were killed or were captured that are dressed just like dad or mom was the last time they saw them.
i can picture a little one toddling over to the tv touching the screen and saying, "daddy.
Differences aside, neither side wants any more death or destruction. Not even us Bush Robots want death. We want an end.
I'm at the point where I don't care who is at fault, who is wrong or right. I just want this over. I do know some young people over there. One is the son of a friend. She is frantic. No communication at all and his unit is in the the middle of it.
I just wish Iraq would stop now. The end is assured, the only thing up in the air is how many lives are going to be lost. You know the invading troops won't back off. I feel the death total is now in Saddems hands.

So just maybe one of those photos of a dead Iraqi only told half the story?

For the entire month of may I'll be at the dive lodge owned by the Maui Dive shop in Kihei. From June 1st on we'll be neighbors of yours at the Embassey. I know Sabine and Makena are going to be there. Are we talking Apostaluau??
