In Nam, if you wanted to hang around with Charlie behind his lines, then you just expected to get killed. That simple. Now if these reporters can't see something wrong with non military satellite uplinks in the middle of a war zone, then they are idiots.

My waterfall
by LB inthis waterfall is in the city limits of butte falls.
i sat there today and ate lunch by myself.
it was overcast but dry out.
-
LB
There was a bridge over those falls back in the 1920's, a train ran across it. It's an old logging town. Had a mill right there also. But that's also been gone for many years.
Yep Heaven, that's the waterfall.
I do enjoy my area, it's beautiful around here. But I'm old and these colder winters are wearing me out. I need Maui, bad.

Bruce Willis
by LB inwe just got back from seeing the movie tears of the sun or tears from the sun, something like that.
war movie and a good one.
very unsettling as it should be.
-
LB
I actually had a dream about Tears of the Sun last night. That hasn't happened to me for years. I guess this movie got to me.
I think the reality of some of the scenes are right on. But the real reality comes I think in the mindset of a warrior. They are given a job, go to do it, yet see some horror. Can they stand by and watch this or go against standing orders and the rules of engagement? What will their conscience allow them to do?
Bruce Willis is one of the few actors in hollywood that make mustsee movies anymore.
Oh and Mak, while on Maui this time you and I can go see a dude flick together with no consequences, ok?

The real victims of "peace"
by expatbrit inthe victims are the children, of course.. in 1999 unicef (the united nations children's fund) conducted a survey in iraq to determine the effect of sanctions on iraq, imposed by the united nations.. what had sanctions done?the surveys reveal that in the south and center of iraq -- home to 85 per cent of the country's population -- under-5 mortality more than doubled from 56 deaths per 1000 live births (1984-1989) to 131 deaths per 1000 live births (1994-1999).
likewise infant mortality -- defined as the death of children in their first year -- increased from 47 per 1000 live births to 108 per 1000 live births within the same time frame.
the surveys indicate a maternal mortality ratio in the south and center of 294 deaths per 100,000 live births over the ten-year period 1989 to 1999. .

I presume that once the US has removed the torturers from Iraq, it will start on the above list?
Sure, why not, well as long as we have a few bombs left over.

Paradise Earth
by kingdomseeker ini'm new here (not a baptized jw) and was just wondering about those in here who are against the jws.
does it mean you no longer wish to live in the kingdom that jesus christ preached about -- the paradise earth conditions before adam and eve sinned?.
... does it mean you all now believe what christendom teaches about the future -- heaven & hell?

So I guess we'll all have to just wait for "Jehovah's Day Of Judgement",
Yeah I'd hate to be one of those protectors of child molestoring false prophet JW's on that day.

What bothers/worries you most about the war ?
by m0nk3y inthere seems to be quite a few concerned people out the regarding this war in iraq and for good reason.
so what exaclty is bothering you about it, does it involve the very real fact that alot of innocent blood could/will be shed ?
are you fearing this could all be a part of bible/wts prophecy ?
-
LB
Innocent lives lost is always a concern. But dead is dead. Those that will be mutliated is probably worse.

The U.S. already has the RIGHT to wage war on IRAQ
by starScream inwhether a u.s. lead invasion of iraq is necessary or not the united states has that right and here is why.
in 1990 the u.n. security council authorized the use of military force to expel the iraqi army from kuwait.
british and u.s. forces were the dominant contributors to the coalition.

Simon we probably agree more than it appears here. I do not want or like war. I hate it. I do not trust my government or yours anymore than you do. I would not give up my life for a flag or nation, but I'd give it up for family or friends if needed.
I honestly don't know what else can be done here. It appears to me that we've reached a point where action has to be taken. The talking has been going on since 1990.
Diplomacy has failed here. Lives will be lost. Lives will be ruined. We are going to war. The battle with Iraq may not take long but terrorist attacks on American and English soil will happen regardless if we invade or not.
I do disagree with you that what we are doing is the same as the terrorists are doing. I mean did Osama go on TV and announce to the World Trade Center that Bush has 48 hours to resign? I feel that this announcment of war that has been given is about as honorable as can be done under the circumstances. The only other option would be to back off and I think that's the biggest mistake that we could make right now.
But terror will go on regardless.
