does it seem plausible to you that some of the society's apparent flip-flops on doctrine are simply errors by the writing department?.
for instance, take the question of whether the inhabitants of sodom and gomorrah will be resurrected.
around 1989, the revised edition of you can live forever in paradise said no, the insight book said something else and the revelation climax book said something else.
Anglise, that's a great thought--"We must judge them as they judge us."
You know, I'm surprised whenever I visit with a JDub family here or back home. There are NEVER any other reading materials scattered about.
I love to read, I subscribe to about 10 different magazines and read them all cover to cover every month. But, suspiciously, when I ask my JDub friends/relatives, "Say, why don't you get a subscription to Reader's Digest or something?" The number ONE answer I hear?
"I can't even keep up with the food from the FDS! Why would I want to read WORLDLY magazines?"
Now, tell me I'm not alone here. I think part of the plan is to keep them so buried in reading JW slanted material, there's no chance to read anything objective!
over the past few weeks i have been thinking about this and wanted to get your input.. it seems to me the wbts has taken one scripture, jer.
10:23 (the heart is treacherous, who can know it) and used it to build their whole religion.
they have convinced us that all of men's hearts are pure evil, and i just don't find that to be true!.
Thanks all for your input. I agree with larc, its a great way to scare people out of leaving--"You'll become a murderer!"
I think of all the times I have read articles which say things like, "Each one will make his/her own decision. HOWEVER, our bible-trained conscience tell us that we should...." whic of course, totally nullifies the preceding statement which tells us to make our own decision!
I don't really think of it as a conscience, it's more like Pavlov's dogs. When JW hear the words Conscience Matter, it's automatically a NO-NO for the "Mature Christian".
The truth is, for years now decisions which were personal by nature have been subjected to the whims of a bunch of elderly men in Brooklyn.

"A Cure for Surface Cancer.. We have recently learned of a very effective and simple remedy for cancers which show themselves on the surface of the body. We are informed that a physician, after testing this remedy, paid $1000 for the information, and that he has established a Cancer Hospital which is doing good work. The recipe has come to us free and we are willing to communicate the formula, but only to those who are troubled with surface cancers and who will write to us directly, stating particulars. No fee will be charged, but in order to protect the sufferers, we require a promise that they will not sell the formula to others, nor receive pay for the use of it, nor communicate the formula to anybody. Any one known to be a sufferer can be informed of the terms on which the prescription is obtainable through us. " - 1913WTWR 07 01 200
GUFFAW!!! Would anyone, say, recently diagnosed with any type of melanoma, be willing to write and request the terms of said cure? GUFFAW!!!
S'ok Waiting--I can remember checking labels of candy bars (Nestle was the WORST--it said it contained the dreaded LECITHIN!!!! right on the label) to determine if it was ok to eat said candy. ROTFLMAO I KNOW I am not the only one.
And furthermore, who do they think they are to determine what Jehovah's purpose for having Blood poured out on the ground was?!?!?! For all they know, it was EXACTLY to fertilize the ground.
Great post.
this question is mostly for those of you who still believe in the bible to some extent.
my mother-in-law called the other day to see if rileygurl and i were going to the memorial this year.
we told her that we wouldn't be attending.
Nate,
Not going for the first time in 32 years. With my run of good luck, Armegeddon will start sometime that night, LOL.

i have been reading some on sumerian mythology.
now, it's said the sumerians predated hebrew writings by several centuries or longer.
the sumerians are the first writers.
Just a question......
Is Greek Mythology different from Greek History? Of course. Therefore, wouldn't Sumerian Mythology be different from Sumarian History?!?! And, in fact, should we believing any mythology?
Could someone please enlighten me as to who are the Sumarians, do they have a modern day counterpart?
Anton, I tried to read those links but at 4 pm my brain is dead.
i am doing some research on neanderthals.
we know that this species existed and by very recent dna test we can tell that they are definitely not human.has any one done anything on this subject or the accuracy of carbon dating?
Thanks for bringing this back to the top.
You all may be interested to know there was a two-hour premier on Discovery channel the other night all about Neanderthals.
This kind of thing doesn't really interest me but because of this recent thread, I did watch part of it. You may be able to find additional information that interests you at http://www.discovery.com.
when i first posted on this site, there were, i think, around 300 registered users.
now the number of registered users is about to reach 1000 in the very near future.
over on h20 the numbers have decreased, but the community owner, rick, appears to be mesmerised by the idea that it is still much bigger, and biggest is best, as this excerpt from a recent post shows:.
The Brits on the other hand are a bit more reserved, so size doesn't matter on their board!!
Remind me to never date a Brit! LOL!
BTW, Venice, every time I look at your picture I think "She looks like a pioneer". Thought you'd enjoy a laugh.

What I mean is this: it seems to be very important for the JW to disable your heart from your actions, and instead insist that you rely on your Bible Trained Conscience, The only problem with this is, your conscience isn't trained by the Bible, it's trained by the GB and their personal whims. That way, you can be programmed over and over to believe that YOU CAN'T TRUST YOUR OWN HEART WHICH JEHOVAH GAVE YOU!!!
I wonder what would happen to all the JWs who have walled off their hearts if they decided to listen to them if only briefly. I would venture to say, the floodgates would open. All of the doubts that so many JW harbor would become overwhelming.
Kind of like the Edgar Allen Poe story, "The Telltale Heart," huh?
Which do you listen to?
thank you for this board i was enjoying many of the posts here for some time.
being from russia, i also enjoy this melting pot atmosphere of the fearless norse, nonchalant aussies and unostentatious americans and i really do like your britishers jolly good sense of humour.. and then comes slang: i was enjoying deciphering all the btw fyi imo imho acronyms.

Welcome, Simon, Welcome!
When you visited NYC did you go to Bethel? What was your impression of the WBTS upon learning of the extensiveness of their book factories?
Thanks,
